Let me say up front that the ONLY reason I’m giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 is because my stylist was horrible and really it had nothing to do with the salon. I went in to have my hair cut /​styled and I wanted some highlights and lowlights put in. I even had a couple of photos showing exactly what I wanted. First, my stylist was 20 minutes late and I was her first appointment that morning at 9am. I explained what I wanted done and it took her at least 20+ minutes to just mix the bleach. She put stuff all over my hair with tinfoil and it literally took over 2 hours. We washed it out and my hair was completely orange… not in spots… all over! So she added something to it, which turned it yellow. At that point my hair was super pale and ruined by all the bleach. It was 1:30 and I had to be across town by 2pm, so after 4.5 hours, she told me to schedule another appointment and come back for the lowlights and haircut. She didn’t even have time to blow dry it. I reluctantly paid her $ 245 and left with my hair in a bun because I was too embarrassed to actually wear it down. For two days I avoided wearing my hair down. Finally went back and was there another almost 4 hours for the lowlights and haircut. I walked out with my hair looking absolutely NOTHING like the photos I initially showed her and nothing like I wanted. I did see the owner (who I initially wanted to get in with, but she wasn’t available) watching my hairdresser like a hawk. I mean, I can’t blame her, she was basically destroying a clients hair. Anyway, I wanted so much to love this place and really, really wish I had just gone with the owner or one of the other girls who had been there a long time. I was out way too much money and my hair looked beyond terrible. :(

I’ve been looking for a stylist since I moved from Chicago and I’ve finally found my replacement at Lucas. Although there was a bit of a scheduling conflict the first time I came in, the staff was very accommodating and my stylist made up for it with a free travel size shampoo/​conditioner. So nice!
I’ve seen both Shiloh and Holly for hair cuts, both of which are great. They’re both very sweet and personable too. I came in to see holly on Halloween, and per my request, left with HUGE 80s crimped/​curled hair to perfectly fit my costume.
The salon itself is totally Portland, with brick walls and a large open space. They also have online booking and a good mix of products — R + Co, Davines, and Moroccan Oil to name a few. Definitely worth checking out!

Danelle Kay has been styling my hair and teenage kids hair for years. She has great style and is a really great person. The salon is well equipped and very comfortable. The convenient location is also a plus. I would recommend Danelle!!!

Betty is an artist who knows all the tricks! I have very difficult thick hair with waves and I have had stylists either complain or cry before. Betty was very professional and pleasant. She reshaped my hair entirely with the cut. Even after I washed it, it all just fell into the perfect shape. This is a first time ever for me to have wash & wear hair. Thank you so much for taking the time to make it perfect!

Danelle Kay is the best hair stylist. My husband has never noticed my cuts or color in the past but when Danelle Kay did her magic, my kids, husband and friends all commented on how wonderful it looked.

I was in around November because I had read great things about the salon. Although I do not regret my visit, I do wish it had gone differently. Salon gets two stars solely for décor and location.

I have been seeing Amy for years now. She is wonderful! She always takes the time to understand what I am asking for, she does meticulous work and is absolutely committed to client satisfaction. I recently asked her to dramatically change my color from bright blonde to a rich brown. She did an amazing job, (see pic titled bright blonde to rich brown). I would recommend her to anyone. Beyond her skills as a colorist, I find my time with Amy to be filled with fun conversation and to be a very relaxing break from my busy life. I love Lucas’s modern/​chic environment and quality products as well.

Eh… well, lucas salon is okay… if you like waiting, or having your appointments moved several times to accommodate other clients. this has actually happened to me three times with two stylists at this salon. I get it if they have long standing clientele that they want to accommodate but there’s a lot of us out here who don’t require monthly or even bi monthly services but we want to get in — at the time that we set the appointment for. Not that hard… just tell your other client that you’re not available but certainly, don’t make me rearrange my schedule. Sigh.

Initially I was really excited when I found this salon via Unilocal and other online reviews. My experience however was lackluster. The salon itself is cool and everyone I met there was nice and accommodating. It is awkward when you get a bad hair service. Maybe they were having a bad day? I don’t know. My cut was OK at best and the blowout was one of the worst I have ever had. Ever. I actually had to go home and restyle my hair which was a bummer because I always look forward to leaving a salon with shiny, bouncy hair that is ready to go out on the town. ~sigh~ I guess my quest for a new hair salon continues.

Ok so I has booked an appointment at a different salon before getting to portland and after reading Unilocal I had a bad feeling about it. I then called here and got Shiloh on the phone. I showed up earlier than she offered since my husband had me on a schedule. She was able to fit me in and offered to get me started about 20 minutes after my arrivial for my color. It is very pretty. I wasn’t sure about getting my cut but she reminded me I needed one. I like it just thought my final blow dry could have had a little more wow factor. It is nice just not a lot oomph. I like my hair and the service was wonderful, when I’m here Shiloh will be my go to hair person. She rocked. Also enjoyed the blue sky soda. Cute salon. Very clean.

Taylor Lucas of Lucas Salon is an incredibly talented stylist and an all-​around cool lady to spend time with (which is important if you’re stuck sitting in a chair for a few hours). She highlights my hair just the way I like it and is always willing to work with me when I want to try new things. She has a great eye for what’s going to look good on me and I trust her 100%.
Another thing I love about Taylor is that she doesn’t try to up-​sell. More often than not, you run into stylists who will push products and services on you like no one’s business. Not Taylor. Her pricing is very fair and I never walk out of there feeling like I spent money on something I shouldn’t have. I also appreciate that she doesn’t try to book my appointments so close together just to give herself more business. She’s conscious that I’m on a budget and realistic about the fact that I don’t need to come in to color my hair every 5 weeks (which most people will tell you that a blonde needs to do — when you really don’t!)
The quality of her service and her understanding of my needs is what makes me keep coming back to her. I’ve already referred a few friends and my mom and they all love her too! Highly recommended :)

When I was in San Francisco, my hair belonged to Lisa Swiss of Hair Candy. (seriously, if you’re in the SF area, please see her.) I could sit down in her chair and she knew exactly what to do. However, I am no longer in San Francisco. I found myself in Portland, looking like the love child of Cousin It and a ragamuffin. I was officially in desperate need of a new stylist.
Being new to the area and rather particular about who I see, I researched the area and asked a co-worker’s wife for recommendations. She suggested Lucas. After reading all the reviews, I decided to go with Shiloh just by a gut reaction. Going to a new person can be tough, but all my anxiety melted away when I walked in to Lucas. The atmosphere is just awesome and makes you feel right at home. And a free cocktail to sip on during your service? Yes please!
Shiloh was also immediately welcoming and professional. She knew exactly how to handle my heavy hair and transform it back to a light voluminous style that I was so accustomed to. She listened to exactly what I wanted and gave me her advice and two cents… which was more than welcome. Her personality is so charming and laid back that you find yourself gabbing away unaware of the time past. In addition to her amazing haircuts, I now have her do my color. My recent dye job has gotten so many compliments! I’ve now been seeing her for about a year, and I can officially say that I will plop down in her chair, and let her work her magic without really needing to say anything! I highly recommend Shiloh! I would decorate this review with glitter and xmas lights if I could to make it more sparkling!

I’m beyond thrilled with my experiences at Lucas salon. The location is ideal, right on the max line downtown. The salon is spacious, beautiful, and bright with great artwork and a fantastic magazine selection.
The best part of the salon, however, is Shannan! She’s completely down to earth and amazing at what she does. And what she does is make me look and feel like a million bucks! Even when I can’t seem to describe what it is I’m looking for in color or style, she manages to translate my inarticulate ramblings into beautiful results.
Shannan is just brilliant and so easy to talk to, I look forward to every visit!

I have never Unilocaled a review until NOW! This place is lovely… I could have stayed forever. You could tell from the moment I sat in Shiloh’s chair that she knew exactly what she’s doing. Totally confident but with a laid back and genuine personality. I hesitate to write anymore for fear that she will overly book up. Looking forward to my next visit!

I’ve called Lucas three times to make an appointment: two messages and one «letting the phone ring for two minutes» later, and I have to say that my first – and last– impression is that they’re pretty unprofessional and disorganized.

This place was downright amazing. Shiloh was the best! I am visiting from Seattle and called in an hour ahead of time and they were able to squeeze me in for a trim. The construction of the building was SUPER cool, decoration on the walls, the way they setup each station. Very picture worthy. Although I came an hour early, I gladly waited around and played with my phone using their WiFi, and made myself a drink at their wetbar. Oh yes, they have a wet bar. My hair turned out fantastic. I have never felt so good about paying $ 60 for a hair cut, two cocktails, great company (Shiloh and the girls) as well as a super chill atmosphere. I plus one this location. GO HERE!!!

I’ve been to MANY salons in Portland, and Lucas is by far the best. Shiloh is a wonder — she is extremely talented; her skill is matched by her sense of style and what would look good on me. Most of all — she takes TIME with me. My last stylist at a very popular west side salon would book numerous people at one time, stopping by to cut my hair while someone else washed and styled it. I felt like I was on an assembly line. Shiloh spent 2.5 hours with ME, explaining what she was doing, showing my tricks and just being her sweet self. She is great.
The salon itself is perfect. Large windows, brick walls, open space, couches, assortment of beverages… a pleasant space to spend a few hours.

I wrote a longer review of Shiloh at her last salon in Santa Cruz, and it all still holds. I often let her try something completely different and trust her judgement and philosophy that hair is an accessory, so why not change it to suit the mood or season? Never disappointed with the results.
She’s so good that two of us come up from the Bay Area every few months to get our hair done. Nuff said.
