I am so, so picky about coffee. Even with the tough competition in town, I deem Local Roasting Co. the very best. Perfectly roasted beans, beautiful space, sweet baristas, adorable branding and oh jeez the house-made hazelnut milk(which you can buy bottles of to-go, and I do). Now I live even closer, so it’s difficult to not go every damn day — except Sunday, when they are grievously closed.

After trying almost all the cafes in NW Portland, I have to say the Local Roasting Co sticks out as one of the best! I had a hazelnut milk latte and it was heavenly. Can’t wait to go back and get another

This is the best coffee I’ve had in a LONG time. I get the regular coffee, and drink it black. There is no bitter after taste or burnt taste that is so common in coffee. Not sure what kind of beans they’re using or their roasting process, but whatever they’re doing results in an incredible cup of jo.

Local Roasting is a beautiful space and the barista is nice enough, but they sell stale coffee that was roasted more than a month ago. I bought a bag of their Yirgacheffe, with no printed dated of roasting, and it barely had any aroma when I opened the bag. I ground it up and tried making it a few different ways, with my Aeropress and my Chemex, and the result tasted like old cardboard. This place is nowhere in the league of Barista or Heart, where you can find a wide selection of excellent single origin coffee beans.

Local Roasting consistently serves me the best cup of coffee. No matter what I order, hot or cold, small or large, with or without, I’ve never had better coffee anywhere. Competitively priced. They also happen to make a few of their own very special ingredients you may want to delve into such as hazelnut milk. I stick to the coffee but I hear that everything is superb.

The coffee is delicious. I ordered a plain latte since there wasn’t a caramel sauce available and it was very good. My husband got a mocha(I think?) and looooooved it. He was still talking about it hours later. Frankly it got annoying. Not a fan of the way they’ve used the space, it’s a bit too bare and uncomfortable for my tastes.

Pass. I’ve been here twice and each time I’ve clearly been the only paying customer in there. That should say something. Second of all, my first cup of coffee was filled with large chunks of ground beans. These weren’t just grounds, by quite literally chunks. The second cup of coffee was less than remarkable. Although it is close to my office, I would much rather walk the few extra blocks for a good cup.

Some of my favorite coffee comes from local roasting. Now that I have moved back home to the east coast I order their beans to use in my french press. It comes out perfect every time!

The shop is located in a great area and it is nice to hang out in for a bit and do some catching up on your emails. Coffee is good, only problem was that the do not have any food besides a couple of muffins, no other treats… so if you like a little something with your coffee this place might not be for you, if you like your coffee solo(or with the said muffin) then you’ll love this place. Love the art on the walls and the couch too.

Love this place. It’s got that small neighborhood coffe shop feel but they actually have good coffee! I’m always getting their light roast espresso and it’s consistently excellent. They roast more than once a week in small batches and the owner is regularly there. It’s definitely the best coffee in the hood. So thankful it’s here.

SO happy to have this coffee shop just around the corner from where I live. The price is right. With a small staff the lattes are consistent. It’s rarely crowded, so a great place to lounge and relax while I drink coffee. Plus, the pear lavender muffins are the best pastry in town! NOT an exaggeration.

This place started my day with a perfectly good coffee. The atmosphere is really relaxing, I loved the amount of space one is given. I lounged at the couch reading a magazine for a while, really awesome. The muffins were also quite delicious, although they were just too soft so hard to eat. But that might have been just that one time. Overall, great place, great location, great atmosphere, friendly stuff, great coffee, all good!

A nice, though somewhat small coffeehouse. The coffee roasting machine is right there out in plain view. This sacrifices some space that might otherwise be used for a table and chairs or two, but it’s somewhat cool to see the machine like that. I like the red walls and the tree logo. There is an austerity to the aesthetic here, but also some nuance.(Forgive me if that sounds pretentious.) I had the shakeratto, which is a $ 3 shot of espresso shaken with sugar. You choose between the light or dark blend. I chose the dark blend and thoroughly enjoyed this refreshing and surprisingly bubbly drink, served in a glass resembling a snifter(or maybe it actually was a snifter; I’m not much of an expert of glassware.) For drinks made with milk, soy and almond milk are offered, and I believe at no added cost. The guy who runs the place is really nice, and seems proud of his new business. Maybe it was because the door was open on a warm day, but there were lots of flies buzzing around, which made the experience of coffee inside less pleasant. I don’t know how much the prevalence of flies could contaminate the coffee roasting machine, but that thought crossed my mind.

I work in the neighborhood and I’ve been waiting for this place to open. They are open now. It’s clear they are still getting settled in their shop, but I really was most interested in the quality of the coffee. I am a big coffee drinker, and I go frequently to all the major coffee players in Portland. I can safely say that the espresso at Local Roasting Co. was just as good as you could get at any other major shop in town. I had a lighter roast from Ethiopia, and it was really smooth and balanced. I was impressed. This place is off to a great start!
