Specialties
I have been practicing holistic veterinary medicine for over 20 years, first in the Boston area and then in Portland where in 1998 I established Holistic Housecall Veterinary Service.
I offer acupuncture treatment, classical homeopathy, diet evaluation and nutritional counselling and wellness exams for small animal patients, mainly dogs and cats. In treating both acute and chronic illnesses I feel it is important to have a wide range of modalities at my disposal and I will work with you to find a solution for your pet’s health needs.
History
Established in 1998.
In the late 80s some friends had a dog that had a terrible skin problem. They went to a lot of veterinarians and even the vet school could not find a solution. Someone told them about Dr. Richard kearns, a holistic veterinarian in the area and they started treatment. Within a few months the dog’s skin was completely better. I was impressed.
I eventually went to work for Dr. Kearns (he was considered one of the founding fathers of holistic veterinary medicine). He taught me many modalities including homeopathy and acupuncture, and was also very concerned about diet. Upon his death in 1989 I continued to work at his clinic and obtained certification in Veterinary Acupuncture. I enjoyed working there but always felt that the pets were very nervous and I wondered if there was a way to make them more comfortable.
I moved to Portland in 1993 and worked in conventional practice but felt the limitations. I took courses in homeopathy and opened the housecall practice in 1998.
