History

Established in 2012.

After many years as a university professor, Martha decided to make a 180 change in her life to study cosmetology & aesthetics. While still a student, Martha got her first set of eyelash extensions and found her true passion. Extension artistry requires incredible attention to detail, commitment to safety & hygiene, and a passion for creative growth. She took her first eyelash certification course in 2012. A little over a year after launching La Bellissima, offering everything from hair coloring to waxing to lash extensions, Martha took her first Russian volume eyelash extension course. By mid-​2014, Russian volume lash extensions were taking up more & more of her practice as she became more & more under demand. By summer 2015, after 5 volume lash & 2 Sleek Brow certifications and the 2014 Best of Portland Eyelash Artistry award, Martha ended nearly all noneyelash services and changed the business name to La Bellissima Expert Lash & Brow. In 2016, she moved her business to the Pearl.

Martha is truly as good as it gets. I have been seeing here for quite a few years now, therefore, have probably received every service she provides. I started seeing her for lashes after having had them for a few years in Utah. I was so surprised to notice the difference in quality and look between her and the artists I had previously seen. She was the first artist to truthfully tell me I had a lot of lashes (a lot of artist will say you don’t have a lot to avoid putting on more lashes). Her honesty and integrity is to be applauded. I now see her for my brows every few weeks and refuse to let any else touch them. She may not be the cheapest in town– but her prices are affordable for the perfection and service you receive. I would never sacrifice saving a few bucks to get a botch job and someone who doesn’t keep themselves up with the current trends.

I have been doing my eyelash extensions with Martha for 6 months now. Originally I was going to do the lashes for my trip and not keep them, but once I met
Martha I fell in love with her work. When I first saw Martha, she did a consultation to examine my face and to work out the best look for me. She involved me in that process so I immediately felt her dedication to make me very happy with the result. She does the same for every new client, which shows a very high degree of professionalism and her true care for the new clients — Martha always does everything to make sure only the best results are achieved. While applying extensions, Martha is very careful and very thorough. She literally goes lash by lash, it’s amazing. She cares about hygiene, which is very important to me. Her salon is very cozy and clean, and she keeps a little snack for those of us who never have enough time. There have been times when I texted Martha with questions and she aways got back to me within short amount of time. She does a great job on accommodating my busy schedule. I would not go see another lash artist, there is not a better one than Martha around here. Her work product is beautiful, and her personality is very caring and fun, while professional at the same time.
P. S. I get harassed daily with questions about my lashes. Anywhere I go, women want to know if the lashes are really mine (they look that natural) and if not, WHO DOES THEM?

Went in for an eyebrow wax/​shaping. The result was acceptable, the small talk was not. I’m going to leave out some of the unnecessary blather that was imposed on me. However, here’s a few interesting things I learned during my visit:
1. I am, supposedly, adhering to a new «spikey mascara» trend (even though I apply it the same way each time… going on 13 years).
2. I have an oval shaped face (good to know, thanks).
3. Apparently my mouth is too small for my face. (Actually, ma’am, my mouth is the size that my DESIGNER GENES intended it to be).
I’m ashamed that I didn’t immediately dismiss myself following the unprofessional comments she made about my appearance. Unfortunately, the power of an untamed brow dominated my better judgement.

I have been going to Martha for my lashes for months now and I am delighted! Her attention to detail and dedication to perfection makes sure that I always leave with a glorious set of lashes that my friend envy and I get complimented on all of the time. I can’t imagine anyone doing a better job.
Martha’s location is beautifully decorated, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. Since I’ve been going to her for my lashes for a while I’m trusting her to do a purple ombré on my LNG hair and I couldn’t be more excited.
She is such a fun and great lady! I love chatting with her during my appointments, and the information that she shares– from lash care to hair and skin– is invaluable. She also knows exactly when to let you fall asleep on her table while getting your lashes completed. True beauty rest we joke!
I personally love her system that texts a reminder for my appointments. I know someone else had some issues with it but I find it convenient and useful. My dentist does the same thing, so I don’t think it’s that unusual.
If you’re going to invest your time and money into lashes I can’t recommend her skills enough.

Luv her, luv my lashes, I am addicted!!! Martha is a lovely person, and I consider her to be more of a friend than anything! She takes her time, she does it right, I get a ton of compliments & my eyebrows are being trained to be exactly how I like em– High arch, total bitch fierceness! My first experience with Martha was a couple of weeks ago, she is amazing and is such a true artist — a perfectionist. Not only does she love what she does, she is very knowledgeable and take it seriously she really takes many things into consideration prior to applying lashes. She will also walk you through how to care for your lashes, I have never had this type of through hands on experience before.
I would highly recommend Martha for lashes, ladies this is truly a one stop shop take a look at her menu of services hair, waxing, tanning!

I decided to treat myself to eyelash extensions for my birthday right before June and wow I can’t believe what a difference it’s made! I can’t go back to my normal eyelashes, especially after all the compliments. :)
The truth is that it takes time and upkeep can add up, but I have decided that it’s worth it for the amazing work Martha does! If you have really fine, short eyelashes like I did, then go see Martha now.

Went here off a groupon which was an amazing deal on it’s own and then had Martha apply volume lashes for my destination wedding in Puerto Rico. It took a while to apply but she did a FANTASTIC job! They looked amazing! I went swimming in the ocean and the pool for 2 weeks and they still held up. I have them on still, 4 weeks later, and am still receiving compliments! I will be back to visit Martha for sure!

Eyelash extensions have to be done right and she goes above and beyond!
It is a time consuming process but so worth it in the end.
I was blown away by how they looked afterwards and now can’t go back to normal eyelashes!
Her salon set up is very comfortable and relaxing.

I am extremely picky when it comes to having any kind of beauty treatment, highlights, waxing, haircuts, etc. It takes a lot for me to give compliments so I’m very happy to be able to share my experience! I had been wanting eyelash extensions for a long time and came across a special Martha had going so I was pretty excited about it. I have been going to her since November 2013 and I have NEVER been disappointed, in fact I’ve been more than thrilled with her amazing and excellent service! I appreciate getting information from a professional regarding products and how to care for my lashes. She is definitely worth the time and money! My lashes are a challenge because they have no curl and are very fine but Martha loves a good challenge and I can’t tell you how many compliments I have received from people! They have no idea they are fake lashes until I tell them. She also has a referral program where not only do you get a discount but so does the potential client you are referring. She also offers a punch card and after 5 fills you get the 6th one at half off! I don’t know of any other salon that does that! She is highly knowledgable and extremely skilled and I love going to her. She has also done waxing for me, eyebrows, lip & chin and again incredibly thorough and well done. I was very happy with the results of those services as well. She is a perfectionist and while that isn’t always a «good» thing depending on the topic, in my opinion, when it comes to beauty I think it’s a great thing! She really cares about doing an excellent job and she cares about making her clients happy and she is educated on what she doing and has been professionally trained which I think is a huge deal. Especially when you are talking about dealing with the eye area. I don’t know about other people but I want someone that knows what they are doing when they are doing something to my eye area. She gives individualized service and I think that is awesome! I haven’t had a chance to get a facial yet but I’m sure it’s just as incredible as the services I had experienced and if you couldn’t tell already, I highly recommend her! You won’t be sorry! Just make sure you read the literature BEFORE going to your appointment so you know exactly what’s going to happen and how much time is needed. Remember to allow for extra time if you need to have lashes removed.

I have had eyelash extensions from many different artists, in many cities, and Martha’s are by far the best. She really takes pride in her work, along with making sure you’re completely happy with the finished product. The actual product she uses is also what sets her apart from other artists. I’ve paid high prices for bad lashes that look super fake and fall off quickly. The ones I get from her look natural and full, as well as last. I would highly recommend her!

Love this place! Martha is amazingly talented at what she does. Not only did she give me the most gorgeous dramatic eyelash extensions ever, but she really takes the time to consult with you, educate you, and talk to you about what she’s doing. We started the service with a consultation on the type of lash extensions i wanted, as far as style, shape, length etc. She’s really thorough from the start to end of the service, and does a great job of finding the best lash style suitable for your individual look, eye shape and lash type. Her studio is extremely cute and cozy and very welcoming. I will definitely be coming back again and again. :) Thanks Martha!

I was so scared when I purchased the groupon to get my eyelash extensions. I thought it would totally damage my natural lashes which were already very scimpy. But my fears were unfounded. She (Martha) spent an incredible amount of time with me on the application. She took her time and they looked absolutely perfect. I had so many compliments on them from complete strangers. It was really funny that they noticed but they did. So any doubts about making the wrong decision was swept away. My husband loves them too and I love waking up in the morning, no mascara! just a quick brushing and I’m out the door, looking fabulous. I would highly recommend!

I really wanted to write a great review for her but the more I thought about it, I just couldn’t. My hair cut was great BUT the whole time I was there she lectured me on what I should be doing to my hair. No one wants to be lectured by someone that we are paying them for services. She also is using a program for appointment reminders. I would have actually gone to the next appointment I had scheduled but because I didn’t respond to an email/​text within the allotted time, it was cancelled. I was sick that day and when I turned on my phone I got a message telling me it was cancelled. A message. Not her calling me to confirm BUT a message on my text/​email. What kind of personal business does that? NOPE NOT FOR ME!

Wow! If you want natural looking, gorgeous lashes, this is the person to see! Yeah, it took a while, but Martha was upfront about the length of time, and she made me feel so at ease and comfortable through the whole procedure. She was VERY thorough, giving me cleaning demonstrations, etc. I think she has a genuine concern for the well being and happiness of her clientele, and it shows in the time she gives them and the quality of her work.
Even the fiancé (cheapest man ALIVE) was agreeable to the price of the twice monthly fills once he saw the end result.
I can’t wait to see what magic she can do with my hair and skin! Thanks SO MUCH, Martha!

I was really hopeful when I got a message back about a eyelash extension special from Martha. I had my eyelashes done in London and had yet to find a place that could keep them looking fab! I made my appointment and went to see Martha. Funky little setup and alls fine. However 4.5 hours later I was left with only the ‘frame’ of eyelashes. Some which were not even up to my eyelash base and too heavy for my lashes so sagged. I probably shouldve said that I had plans or enquired how long the process would take, however I never thought Id be there for longer than 2, maybe 2.5 hours. She had said that she was trying to get from 4 hours down to 3.5 hours towards the end, however I didnt think she meant me until she told me the time. Yes my previous eyelashes needed removing as the last person doubled them on my lashes (big no no!). No she didnt burn my eyeballs out in the process. I was nice and patient and when she was telling me about her super busy schedule and how if I dont book immediately Id never get an appointment with her. I declined. I didnt have time to talk about how popular she was. But anyways, long story short my eyelashes were removed (should take maybe 10−15mins) and new ones put back on. I was so unhappy that I found another place to get them fixed at after a week. Everyone was commenting on my lashes and how they didnt look real, until I got them redone.
I would NOT recommend going here unless you want to have someone who isnt experienced enough to do intricute work on your eyelashes. You might be happy if youve never been to a professional, however please find someone else and save your money and time!

The lashes that Martha uses are to die for! I already have curly lashes but the extensions made my eyes pop even more. I don’t even wear any other makeup other than foundation because the lashes really make my eyes stand out. She took a lot of care in making sure that she would cater the lashes to my wants (I wanted big, flashy lashes) and took her time to make sure they looked just right. They don’t look tacky like strip lashes and they are reasonable to maintain. If you’re on the market for lash extensions, see Martha :)

I have had nothing but great experiences at la Bellissima! Martha, the gal that does it all (truly) is accomodating and makes every appointment special. She is talentless and professional and knows what the hell she’s doing! I would personally recommend her tanning packages they include unlimited monthly tanning and brow waxing and some other cool stuff too! I will never go back to a reg tanning salon again! I have had almost every service she offers from hair color to lashes to tanning to facials and have never been disappointed!
