Kruger’s Farm Market

This is not Whole Foods, this is a farm stand. This is where you go if you want to do some canning, but you don’t have your own garden. The food is not stacked sexily in piled displays, they don’t have unusual ingredients your don’t know how to cook. This is honest, great produce. No fuss. No muss.

Villains, thieves and scoundrels. innocent mistake charging me double for kabouche squash, innocent mistake charging me .25 $ more for a lemon in listed front of her face. 4.5 pounds of squash cost me 7.75 instead of 2.92. Buyer beware. 8.00 $ worth of veg will cost you 12.73 $. I am going back to the real farmer’s markets, now I know why they are so crowded. Just come back and bring your veg and we will work this out, I think I got it worked out already??? thanks.

We had a fairly limited floral budget for our wedding. We told her what we wanted and how much we could afford to pay. She did an amazing job at providing beatiful flowers and pieces and she delivered exactly what we were wanting. She was easy to get ahold of, prompt to answer any questions we had, and it was also a nice touch that everything she gave us was sourced locally. Will definitely work with her in the future for our floral needs

If you live in SE Portland and you don’t shop here, you’re crazy. There’s great produce, and it’s very cheap. And if you’re looking for seasonal fruit and veggies, theirs is as good as any farmer’s market. Last week I got there as the truck from Sauvie Island arrived, and the guy who was working there ran to get my fresh strawberries and asparagus right off the truck. The asparagus was great and the strawberries might have been the best I ever had. I was impressed by the good service, too.

Great place with a huge amount of produce. Some of the prices were great, while others were just fair. I had to drop a star because I bought green grapes that weren’t ripe and were so sour that we had to toss them. There was no way of knowing this when I purchased then. Overall, I was impressed with the produce there and will definitely go back.

Excellent selection of fresh produce. Comes from the farm on sauvie island. Friendly farmers and staff. Great location in SE to drive, walk or bike to. Skip the safeway and freddys on Hawthorne and buy from your local farm!

My go to place for weekly produce shopping. Fresh fruits and vegetables at very reasonable prices. I love the smell of fruits and vegetables as soon as I enter this market. The employees are very friendly. I recommend everyone to ditch the supermarkets for tasteless fruits and vegetables and go to farm markets like Kruger.

I accidentally found this Farmers market while dining nearby in SE portland. SO Kruger’s farm is Sauvie Island is very famous for its organic produce and local goods such as honey, hand woven baskets, preserves and pickles. I assume this is a another front for that market to sell their excellent wares to the SE Portland neighborhood.
Its no surprise that Kruger’s farm has excellent variety of vegetables and fruits but I was surprised that I found them in February. I thought the local farmer’s market closes in December and then reopens only in April. Anyway I was happy that the market was open and they were selling all varieties of fruits and vegetables. I also found the Flying Fish store next door that sells fresh seafood and even diary. So a must visit if you are grocery shopping on the SE side.

I really wanted to love this place but I think they were on the struggle bus this winter. It also showed that quite a bit of their produce is. It local as they were waiting for stock from California to show up. So. It many choices, empty bins, and the place just felt sad and empty instead of alive an vibrant. I’ll be back in the summer though. Hope things are better then. Would also like to see more produce from Kruger farms …

Farmer Don is very friendly and takes time to meet his guests. The Harvest festival on Savvie’s is a blast, catch the right ride and you’ll see them light all of the Bön fires on the hayride to pick out your pumpkin. Food is always fresh at any Kruger’s location. On Savvie’s: food carts and beer is great, all people are friendly. Also, love buying outfits for Sharon, the lady who crafts fairy outfits for little girls. They are all original and she is the nicest lady. The corn maze is the best I’ve ever seen and tells Farmer Don’s personal story. I love this place and it just keeps getting better and better. Thank you Farmer Don.

During our trip to Portland, and being around this neighbourhood and walking around, we stumbled on this market. My dear is a sucker for homey farm markets, and so we went in to see how fresh things really were here. It’s not a small market, but very widely accesible with a ton of vibrant colors coming from all the fresh produce here. On the day we were here, it wasn’t too busy… 2:30PM definitely not prime time, and people who want to examine the merchandise, this is probably the best time… no one will disturb you while you pick your fruits and veggies.
I have to say that Portland residents are lucky to have places like this, you could either choose to shop at the big markets (ie. Whole Foods) or come to places like this. Of course the prices are going to be lower here, and rest assured these guys are getting their produce from the local farmers in the area. Not everything is organic here, and there are other things at this spot, not just produce. If I’m around this area again… I would come back.

I la-​la-​love this place!
1) Farm fresh produce, close to home, without having to drive all the way out to their farm on Sauvie Island.
2) The staff is always knowledgable and extremely helpful.
3) Hardcore florist in the same shared space — if you don’t know, learn. This lady is quite talented with local flowers!
4) Fresh, local, produce — in a much higher quality, fresher and cheaper than what it usually is at the grocery store.
5) Other local products are also available, such as local raw bee honey, pollen, juices, etc.
This place is my favorite place to buy produce. and I’ll continue to keep coming back as long as they’re here.

As a NoPo resident, I don’t often find myself seeking out produce in SE, but whenever I do Kruger is always my first choice. While the lack of real walls or insulation can make for some slightly uncomfortable winter shopping, the open-​air market setup gives this place a very fresh and authentic feel. All of their produce is top quality and very healthy looking, never any mold or rotting goods. Aside each item of food there is a well placed placard not only giving you a clear price but also the place of origin. When in season, much of the produce is locally sourced with a good portion of that coming from their very own farm right over on Sauvie Island.
I have a few friends who volunteer for a local food distribution program, collecting slightly unappealing produce and grocery goods and offering them for free to those in need. Kruger has been a long time participant in this program, allowing volunteers to stop in multiple times a week and save all the slightly mangled and bruised (but totally edible and nutritious!) produce from rotting away in the compost bin. They are a major asset to the community, I’d give them five stars for just that alone.
All of my experiences here have been really great. Not only are their products great, the staff is also quite knowledgable and super helpful. I highly recommend checking Kruger out next time you’re in need of some quality fresh produce!

I’m kinda torn about this place.
They have some great organic produce. Their dinosaur kale is beautiful! The organic sweet potatoes are really yummy. The organic apples? Glorious.
But there’s not that much organic stuff to choose from. Most of the time, I’m not sure where the produce comes from – some things are plainly stickered, but there’s not that much that is plainly from Kruger’s Farm.
I get that it’s a weird time of year, but it’s sort of disappointing. At the same time, the kale here is so nice, it’s sort of hard to swap it for the dried out shredded stuff in the bags at Trader Joe’s. I’m a sucker for nice leafy greens.
I think I’m going to keep coming here for a few staples and for the $ 1 rack (I scored a $ 1 bag of beets that must have weighed 10 pounds, and while a few were past their prime, most were just fine) but otherwise I’m going to have to find another way to get satisfactory produce.

Don’t want to go all the way out to Sauvie’s Island to get some fresh produce? Well, come on down to Hawthorne. The wife was canning pickles and got a butt ton of fresh dill for $ 2.

I enjoy a little farmers market. I guess it’s a nice thing to be in Portland and have this as a daily option. You also have the community co-​op gardens or many up here have their own little gardens. My own brother’s apartment has an herb garden right outside his front door. It all fits in with what Portland is and is about.
This was a nice one with everything you’d expect, wax beans, apples, tomatoes, eggplant, pineapple, kale and items like baby bok choy, sauces and other packaged goods. The prices were reasonable. We were just browsing so we didn’t get anything, but if this was an options and close to me, I could see getting fresh produce from a place like this regularly.

I love the farmers market. I mean, what self-​respecting Oregon resident doesn’t?! I can’t always make it on the designated days but I do love me some fresh produce. There’s a few places around town offering local, fresh produce but the prices are a bit steep for this frugal gal. Enter Kruger’s Farm Market. I can get all the produce I need for the week without making a big dent in my wallet. They often have great deals in the $ 1 section (like a whole bag of ripe avocados for ONE DOLLAR) that makes the score that much sweeter. I tend to get the same things over and over again (kale, spinach, romaine, apples, potatoes, etc…) but it is usually reliably good. As others have noted, it is not all local or organic but honestly, I’d rather do one-​stop shopping for all the things I want than have to hit up the grocery store for non-​Oregon produce. The place has plenty of options but it’s also incredibly easy to pop in and out and get all you need. Sometimes I’m just not in the mood for a giant grocery store, ya know? There’s never a line to checkout and the staff is always friendly. You also can’t beat the location right on Hawthorne.
No time for Sauvie’s Island? No problem! Check out some market fresh produce right in the heart of the city. Thanks, Kruger’s.

Sure, Krugers has alot of produce, and really great prices. I’m just disappointed that there’s not many organic choices to choose from. It’s hit and miss so I feel I can’t count on filling my entire grocery list at Krugers like I’d first planned.
The organic produce that I have bought is very affordable compared to other places so for that reason I’ll continue to shop there. I’m just disappointed when produce stands sell themselves on local only to find boxes and boxes of out of state produce with only a small selection of local produce. It’s not always the freshest looking either so be selective.
Of course, I know this is due to the availability of produce season to season so just make sure you don’t go into it expecting more like I did. Otherwise, it’s a great place to go for a few select local and organic items.

Excellent selection of fresh produce. Even had my favorite apples that I had not been able to find since Wild Oats changed to Whole foods, Pinova, they only had them in stock once but they promised to try and get them again.
The Gentlemen working there are so friendly, and the place is nice and clean.

I forgot how much I liked this place. I forgot because I don’t think I’d been here in years. That changed today. A coupon in the Chinook Book (that I didn’t even end up using) took me back here. I’m pretty sure I’ll be back again.
The last time I was here it was still called Uncle Paul’s. Actually that is what the coupon was for. Wonder if they would’ve even honored it? I don’t know. I couldn’t spend $ 25 here. I tried. I bought some veggie and fruit goodness. I bought a good amount, but when it rang up it came to just over $ 12. I am set for veggies and fruits for probably 2 weeks and it only set me back $ 12? That is highway robbery. On my part.
The selection seems to be less from the Uncle Paul days, but there are still plenty of items to choose from and obviously the prices are pretty damn good.
