Specialties
Smart, dynamic use of space and your design dollars. I help builders and custom home building clients navigate the ocean of products available and help hone their selections into a cohesive look that is functional, comfortable, affordable and memorable.
Specifically, I do interior or exterior color consultations, space planning, interior surfacing for remodels or new construction. I specify flooring, tile, cabinetry, wall and window treatments, color, custom furnishings, lighting etc. I will work with what you have or specify new products and help you find a fresh new look. I work with homeowners, builders and subcontractors.
History
Established in 1997.
Kismet Design opened it’s doors in 1997 after Erin Marshall, (owner and sole operator) quit the advertising business and bought her first house. «I loved the immediate gratification seeing a space come to life, with a few well considered changes.»
I re-habed seven houses of my own and earned my stripes doing much of the work myself. I demolished walls, re-designed kitchens, added bathes and windows, painted, re-roofed, carpeted, sanded floors and hired an army of sub-contractors.
Along the way, I specified products and found out which ones work better than others.
I have a degree in graphic design and am a good visualizer. I know what it feels like to be the client. I know the stress of financing big construction projects and I understand that time is money.
That said, I love helping people turn houses into homes that fit their needs, reflect their personalities and shelter their dreams.

Native Portlander. Graduated with a BFA in 1985 from Pacific NW College of Art. Waited tables through college, hung out on the corporate ladder working in advertising for several years, taught college level design classes for 15 years while re-habbing properties in inner NE Portland. I love traveling to far flung lands and taking road trips in the US. You will also find me working in my yard on pretty days or reading fiction or cooking or playing with friends; all in all, I am blessed and lucky to live in a great small city and have a career I love and people I adore.
