Worst customer experience ever! Seriously, its a national chain, right? And the idea is if someone buys you a piece of jewelry at their Kay Jewelers, then you should be able to exchange it at yours(like Target or any department store). I went in about 2 weeks after Christmas with two small silver pendant necklaces my daughter and I rec’d as Christmas gifts. The necklaces were still in their Kay boxes and was something Kay currently had in stock in their display case. I figured we’d be able to exchange them for store credit and get some earrings or something more to our taste. The employee said she couldn’t do ANYTHING for me without a receipt. I said it was a gift, and I didn’t have the receipt, and didn’t want to ask for it — because obviously that would hurt the givers feelings. She then said I should give her the name and telephone number of the person who bought the gift(WTF? This has never happened to me before when making a return). She spent almost 30 minutes«checking the database» then told me that since the giver lives in California that they have different laws and wouldn’t be in the database anyway. The she suggested I call the giver and tell them the chain broke and ask for the receipt. Yes, she suggested I call and LIE to my relative. Again, let me emphasize, I was not trying to get cash back for a 4 carat diamond, I was looking for store credit for two silver pendants. I will NEVER buy anything at that store. Be warned — get your Valentines day bling elsewhere!

To Clarify, Amanda S. Review was for work done at the Friedlander’s location at Washington Sq Mall, NOT the Lloyd Center location.

I paid to have alterations done on my ring. The alterations we done sloppy and because of the the way the jeweler did it, it is now irreversible. Kay jewelers would not pay to replace the ring, or pay to rebuild the ring. PLEASEDONOTTRUSTTHEM! They do not stand behind their work, and will damage your jewelry.

I’m soo tired of Kay Jewler. This experience is over one watch. My wife bought me a Bulova for our anniversary and not even a year later it broke(different issue, one I will be writing another review about:-). I brought the watch in to Kay Jeweler at Lloyd Center(where it was purchased), they sent it off to get fixed and said per the manufacturer I would have to pay because the issue was not covered in the warranty. Ok whatever I just want my watch fixed. They say they will call me when its done and back in two weeks. I wait three weeks then call THEM, they say they are not sure what’s up they will call and find out. Conveniently its coming in the next day. I get the watch back and its still broke. They send it back and say they are going to order a rush on it cause that’s messed up it should be fixed. They will call me back in a week when its done and back. Two and a half weeks later I call THEM. They say let us call and find out what’s up. Conveniently its coming in at the end of the week. Again I have to call THEM at the end of the week to confirm they got it back and they did. I go get it, walk out of the store and realize its got a huge scratch on the crystal. I send it off again on 8/1, here it is 9⁄3 and I had to just call THEM to see where my watch is at. Big surprise they need to call the shop where its at to see what’s going on with it. I won’t hear back from them till tomorrow, that is unless I have to call THEM. The only reason I give them two stars is because at least they have been polite and I haven’t gotten any attitude over this ridiculously long process. I understand that they may be at the mercy of Bulova or its affiliate shops when they send something out, but I think they can do a better job of getting back to a customer and or working to resolve matters quickly(especially when they have been dealing with the same irritated customer). As is I am very unsatisfied and will not buy another thing from Kay Jewelers.

I like kay because they have a pretty good selection and have sales that make them affordable. The staff is friendly and my boyfriend always purchases the warranty on the jewelry he buys which has paid off big time since I have a tennis bracelet that has been broken at least five times.(which may be something to consider as well-I think it’s probably a low end more affordable place so the jewelry might not be as well made or sturdy. I also have a diamond encrusted ring and one of the diamonds fell out. .that’s where the warrenty coverage comes in.

I didn’t feel like I had a very personal or special experience here. Plus they promised to have my ring sized by a specific day(which was a whopping ten days after I bought it), then they called to tell me it was going to be longer because the salesman didn’t enter the proper code, so I spent an entire day being upset and worried that I wouldn’t have the ring in time, and then they called a day before it was originally supposed to be ready to tell me that it was ready. I was glad, but annoyed at the lack of communication between their staff. I ended up taking that ring back a month later because it wasn’t what I really wanted and I picked it out pretty impulsively. It was a gemstone and I really wanted a diamond. Originally, I had planned to do an exchange, but when the sales team couldn’t give me the information I wanted about their diamonds I simply returned the ring and went somewhere else where the staff was much more knowledgable. I can see someone going here for necklaces and things of that nature, but for an engagement/wedding ring, I’d go somewhere else.
