Joyous Racket is a music school that specializes in drums. We offer private and group lessons in drum set, rudimental, djembe and Brazilian samba-​school style. During school breaks (summer, spring, etc.) we also offer drumming camps for kids 8 – 12.

We love working with kids with special needs, including those on the autistic spectrum. Please contact us for more details.

History

Established in 2008.

Joyous Racket was founded with the goal of reaching the ‘whole’ student – not simply to develop virtuoso musicians, but virtuoso humans.

Anyone who can listen can be musical, anyone who has a beating heart can have good rhythm. It’s all inside you already. Our job is to work together with you to bring it out.

Business Owner

Miguel Lyons-​Cavazos is the Director of Joyous Racket LLC. He also teaches West African drumming at St. Ignatius School in SE Portland, Brazilian drumming at Hough Elementary in Vancouver, and drum set at Lets Make Music in Sherwood.

He has been playing and teaching drums for over 30 years and has studied with Curt Moore, Dan Sabanovich, Fred Sanford, Ralph Hardimon, Caton Lyles and Derek Reith.
