Dive Bar Extroidinaire. The best dive bars don’t try, there is no pretense — they’re just what they are. This is a dive bar –from the classic dark colors to the complete abscence of any windows in the building(who needs sunlight when you’re day drinking, anyways?) — there can be no mistaking the purpose of this establishment. If you can filter the distinct feeling of abject despair and hopelessness hanging in the air, you’ll find pretty darn cheap beers and whisky, with an option to absorb it all with greasy fried food, thawed for your order specifically in 3-week-old fryer grease. You get what you pay for here, and everything is cheap. Service is, uhhh, servicable, as a sports bar it can get busy on the weekends and I’m sure they try to cover the chaos but, then again, if you expect table service at a place like this you’ve been misinformed. Walk yourself to the bar and order directly. Proceed to exits out the back and enter thunderdome, the chainlink-enclosed outside patio, if you decide you’d like fresh air and a chance at some sun(this is PDX, after all, so windows are only ever useful once or twice a year anyways…). It’s up to you whether or not you’d like to chat with the friendly fellows wandering up and down the bar looking for their lost skateboard(«I can’t remember if I brought it or not») or smoking hand rolleds out front. It’s sort of like a chose-your-own-adventure experience…

Pretty much what to expect from a great dive bar. The drinks are strong, the service is just fine, and the bar food is pretty standard. Despite being a sports bar, it’s not too loud, and there’s enough seating for you to sit somewhere quieter if a game is on. We got the nachos and it easily fed three people. It’s nice they have a variety of drinks available(aside from the full bar) including cider and hard root beer. The bar’s proximity to the food carts makes for a great place to stumble after several stiff drinks…

Perfectly good dive bar. Actually pretty spacious so you have options on sitting — at the long bar, tables in the main room or around the bend where it is quieter. Drinks were good, clean taps and a good staff. A couple hard drinking regulars(on kept brushing by us and we kept checking wallets) but mostly a neighborhood feel and mix, I’d come back.

Overall it’s a Divey feeling sports bar. It’s dark inside and there’s a few TVs. Good ranch for the dinosaur wings which were so nice especially for $ 1.50/ea during hh! The ranch is the kind of thicker type which is what I prefer especially for dipping wings with. The dinosaur wings are a great size and so flavorful. I had one buffalo and a Jamaican jerk. I enjoyed each equally. The skin was the best part and I’m not usually a fan of chicken skin. The Jamaican jerk is a dry rub and made the skin extra tasty b/c it was crispy, dry and packed with flavor from the seasoning. The chips & salsa that comes with the fish taco is good stuff. I really liked their Fish taco was a generous size but had chipotle sauce on it which is not my fav but the fish itself was perfectly cooked. Service was excellent. We sat outside b/c the weather was nice and there was no football on outside lol. Our server was so nice to us even though she had to keep walking inside/outside just to serve us since we were the only ones outside but she was cool and we took care of her in the end for being such a great sport. If this were Vegas they would have probably told us outdoor seating was closed b/c they didn’t want to cater to just one table all the way outside but not in Portland! Their build a burger is quite an amazing deal. Starting off at $ 2.75 for a single patty, want cheese add a quarter! Want extra toppings? They’re ONLY a quarter! You can build yourself quite the custom burger for like $ 4 and it’ll be stacked with topping and delicious to boot! The drinks were averaged price, nothing to write to bargain Betty about. I had their hefe and the wife had a raspberry cider which was very refreshing and light. I really enjoyed both. They did have PBR on tap and I think it was like $ 2 and I always say a place with PBR on tap is always an okay joint with me.

The wonderful young blonde bar tender working around 1:30 today was so fun, funny, and on top of drinks and jokes. She was what I expect out of a bar and bartender. Creating a fun and entertaining atmosphere, I will be back for sure!

YUMYUMYUM. The staff is all super sweet and helpful. The breakfast is cheap as Hell and just what you needed. Decent selection of tap beers and all the servers are knowledgeable about them. Only bad thing to say is I wish they had more vegetarian lunch and dinner options.

While on tour with my metalcore band, Spades And Blades, we were in Portland staying with a friend who lives only a block away from Jolly Rogers. We ended up eating and drinking here a handfull of different times over the course of a few days after some of our tour dates got cancelled. The drinks and the food are all way reasonably priced. I recommend visiting during happy hour(which is all day on Monday’s) to get even more bang for your buck! The club sandwich, tacos, crows nest breakfast, and country fried steak and eggs were all excellent but the thing I absolutely LOVED here were their tater tots. Lol. Why something so simple stood out at this place, I’ll never know. They just taste fantastic and they’re served nice and hot! Service with a smile here, too! Every day was a different bar tender /server and each of them knew how to deliver quality customer service. Even though you’ll save a few bucks with their inexpensive food and drink options, you should pass those extra dollars on to the server. Don’t miss out on this dim lit, cozy, kooky, cabin-like, pirate paradise!

I fuck with the Jolly. Nowhere in town can you get cheaper food for the quality, anywhere. They have cheap ass burger baskets for a few bucks, god damn hold on lemme just get butt naked. Never once have I been disappointed in their food. The staff there is awesome and the bartenders are great people and great hosts. It’s a dive bar, but what the fuck do you want, a bidet in the bathroom and ya dick sucked? This is a not a country club. Eat some tater tots and sip on somethin’. They have all major sporting events on cable, and even have a movie night on Sundays; there’s always something awesome playing. The Hawthorne food carts are right outside the door, but fuck all that poser hipster shit. Get yourself a god damned burger and a stout. Shout out to Rob and Niki, real ass individuals and great bartenders, I’m done.

Great place to see a game or just have a few drinks. Great prices, great service, solid pub food. There’s a fairly large out door area with tables, although the chain link fence and asphalt sort of takes away from it a bit. It’s also a great location with easy access to several other bars and a terrific food cart pod.

Everything I would expect from a bar that had skull and cross-bones on the outside of it! Pirate themes with good drink selection and bombastic salsa!!! Great place to watch a game. The bar staff was fantastic and extremely upbeat and friendly!

«FOODPOISONINGCANCOMEFROMANYWHERE.» «SORRY, THERE’S NOTHING I CANDOFORYOU.» Got food poisoning from the Ruben sandwich I had during happy hour, called back after spending a day and a half in the fetal position, politely asked to have my bill refunded after stating my valid explanation, and was told by a manager…(see above). Now, I understand stuff happens, but a refund was in order. I spent more on pepto bismol and Gatorade than I did on the sandwich.

I’ve hung out here a couple of times. Pool tables, TV’s, movies, and bar. A recipe for good times. Please add more Vegan options, that’s all I ask. This is Portland after all.

Came here for Blazers game which they advertise on the outside of the building but they won’t put the audio on… Makes no sense to have random football game audio but not our local team… What!?!

First time there on Sunday, loved it for watching football!!! GREAT service, decent food, and excellent pricing and atmosphere. Yes it’s a «dive bar» but it’s clean and friendly and they have several TV’s for watching your favorite team. We will for sure be back!

This is a really good dive bar. Go here for happy hour. Food is more than acceptable, cheap and decent bar food. Drinks are fairly cheap(I dont see the hh menu so I cant say for sure since I forget) But it’s friendly and divy and has a smoking area. It’s dark and there’s a bunch of tvs around. Perfect for burgers and beers or cocktails. I’ll be back!

Another stop on the Friday of Happy Hour and this was our favorite by far. Cheap beer($ 3 for cans of Shift or pints of New Belgium beers, also a special on wells) and some pretty good food. Burgers for under $ 5 and steak fries for around $ 3. They have wings and pizzas and off the menu sandwiches that our server was more than happy to inform us about. She was quite helpful. For a bar burger it was really decent. Two patties, lettuce, tomato, onions and their«Jolly Roger’ sauce(Thousand Island based). The fries were more typical steak fries and could have stood to be in the fryer a bit longer. Good bar food. There were many people here, basketball games on TV and a cool atmosphere. Some pirate knick-knacks and beer signage and definitely a place I want to go back to soon. Enjoy.

This was a nice discovery while on a weekend trip to Portland. We were staying nearby and noticed this place. It had good reviews so we decided to give it a try and glad we did. First and probably most important was the great service. It is not that often that you find a local bar that is very friendly to new patrons. This place does and does well. Started with a round of drinks and an order of the tots, so good… We all had burgers which were very good and threw in a round of jello shots. All with very reasonable prices. This will be a regular stop when we visit.

After reading all the Unilocal reviews, I was really excited to come here to watch the Oregon game — sounded like a nice divey sports bar, exactly what I usually look for. It’s definitely divey. And I think that it’s definitely the kind of place that is great to be a regular. The bartender was really fun and friendly and loved to chat with customers. It seemed like there were a lot of regulars there meeting up to watch the game and that would definitely be fun. Not so much fun to be a first time visitor though. Service was very slow and even after telling the waitresses that I was DD for the night, I still felt like they were annoyed that I wasn’t ordering more drinks. Food was a little bit pricey for the quantity/quality, not impressed on that front at all. As far as sports bars go, there were tons of screens to watch games, which is great if you have multiple games to watch at once. The bartender was very friendly when we asked to change one of the screens to a different game. Overall, I’d give a better ranking if I was a regular, but as a first-time vistor, not so impressed.
