Holiday Inn Express & Suites Portland-Nw Downtown

My father and I only stayed one night but this hotel met all of our expectations. The people at the counter were friendly and helped us with our AAA discount. The price was right, the rooms were clean, and we both appreciated the complimentary wifi (very fast), breakfast, and parking.

This was a very nice hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. The room was comfy, quiet and clean. The hot tub was like a small pool. Great location too. We will definitely stay here again.

Great hotel close to University of Portland. Perfect for a short stay with 2 – 3 people in a double queen room. Rooms aren’t huge but everything was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fine. They had A quick pancake maker, warm sausage, bacon and eggs. Plenty of other continental items as well. Free parking is always great. I would definitely stay here again. Only 4 stars because we stayed at another HI in Eugene and that was even better!

We were there March 2016. Our rates ranged from $ 196 to 164 over 4 days for a standard room. We went over spring break. Uh oh .
Our first night someone had set up a floor party with multiple room doors decorated with hearts and names (6 + doors) .All night you could hear running and knocking on doors only to then hear the heavy hotel door slam. This went on until 3 am .
Apparently for standard rooms (its different for Junior Suite and Suite rooms as i looked at them after a night of poor sleep) Holiday Inn Express puts your Keurig Coffee maker in the bathroom. Kid you not. It is on the counter adjacent to the toilet so my guess is particulate from the toilet for those who do not put seat down while flushing decorates most, if not all of these. Does the Oregon Health Department know about this ???
Also for $ 160 – 200 a night the 1 ply toilet paper compares unfavorably with the toilet paper at the airport. Not a high bar I think. The entire hotel needs an upgrade and looks old and careworn. The only positive is the staff were friendly .
We are not staying there again.

As much as I wanted to book my parents in a hipster Portland hotel, unfortunately they were all booked out so I figured I would just choose something familiar and dependable.
Though they are not in town, I still think this Holiday Inn is in a great location. I was surprised at how easy it was to drive to attractions like the International Rose Test Garden and Japanese Garden, and since the freeway is nearby, getting to town didn’t take long.
We arrived around 8 PM, and luckily there was a tapas restaurant (Ataula) within walking distance that was open ’til late and able to serve us. There’s also Kobos Coffee right next door, which means you can always smell coffee and can easily grab some in the morning before exploring PDX!
Our room treated us well and I was able to sleep soundly and get over my jet lag. The always friendly front desk made our stay even better. Only thing we didn’t like was the extremely slow elevator!

We had a great stay here! We came in late and was exhausted. Rodney was best, very sweet and accommodating. We will be returning:)

This place has the most amazing staff I have ever come across. We made great friends with 2 of them, Shobna, and the one that was in training, Brittany, but she was still very knowledgable and told us many things to do around the area. They called a cab for us, and even called again when they saw how long we’d been waiting. Overall this place was amazing! I recommend it so much to everyone.

I’m a hotel snob and usually stay at Starwoods but stayed at this Holiday Inn and had a great stay! Amenities were awesome, staff was incredible. I had 6 teenagers with me and the breakfasts were great. Stay was well worth the $. It is close to street cars to get into DT Portland.

Great value, friendly staff staff, free parking, nice little indoor pool/​hot tub and fitness room. Tasty free breakfast. Bed was comfy. BUT… our room had little black house ants all over the place! Some even hitched a ride into our luggage. There’s also a strange odor around this hotel. You can smell it in the rooms, hallways and even outside. Smells like something is burning in a low smolder. I think we pinpointed it to a coffee roasting business directly adjacent to the hotel.

Shobna was the best! Friendly, knowledable and so accommodating! My original reservation was for one night, then I had to book the 2^nd night a few days prior. When I checked in, she gave me the same rate as my 1^st night. On top of that, I called from my room to ask how much would it be for an upgrade to a suite with a rollaway bed… her response: «Sure we have that available. Since you are a member, I can provide this upgrade as complimentary.» Wow… she is awesome. This hotel is clean, everyone that worked here was professional and courteous. Our king suite was a good sized room, with fridge, mircrwave, & a sink in the living room. I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re visiting.

Stayed there with family over Thanksgiving.
It’s a nice, clean, comfortable, hassle-​free hotel. Pretty affordable too, by make a reservation through Priceline express deal. Breakfast is ample, and, really it’s as good as it gets for that price point/​type of hotel.
Wi-​fi is free but it can be hard to get in.

I always recommend that family coming into town stay at this hotel. They have really nice rooms, great customer service and from what I hear, a great pool. It’s conveniently located close to down town and the Pearl district. Also there is plenty of parking and it’s very reasonably priced.

Has everything you want in an average hotel. Clean, microwave, fridge. One bus ride away from the downtown area and one block away from shops, bars, and restaurants. Breakfast had many options as well.

Oh man… after an attempt at another local hotel (R.L. at the Q. — Vancouver [I also left them a kind 2-​star review]), this place was a god-​send. The front desk folks were so helpful to us. While this place didn’t have much of a view… the view of the bridge was nice from the lobby… this may have been the best sleep I’ve ever had at a hotel. Not just one night, but two nights, out like a rock. My wife was the same way, and she despises hotels.
The location was near a freeway, but you wouldn’t know it from inside the building (the freeway actually «ends» before it reaches the hotel). Very accessible. Very close to everything in «downtown» Portland, really, the only thing missing was a view… and a jacuzzi tub… and a balcony… ah…dang…hence my 4 thumbs up.
So, the thoughts as I drove up to the hotel on my first night was «even though we supposedly got a great deal, I think we overpaid»…
It’s hard to put a price on a good-​nights sleep though.
I saw a photo of their pool, and a comment «it looks old».
While I was there, the pool was beautiful & warm, so either they were treating the pool with chemicals at the time the photo was taken, or they have fixed the problem. The hot tub made my night (s).
The continental breakfast was amazing… they had an instant pancake machine that was one of the most amazing things that I didn’t know existed. And the results were pretty good!
So at the end, I think it was a little overpriced, even though we got a «good deal». But other than the view, a jacuzzi tub, and a balcony, this was pretty darn comfortable, and would stay here again in a minute (especially if they offer a return-​customer discount — *wink-​wink*).

REALLY awesome staff. Down to earth, genuinely good people. At least the ones who were working when we were there. The gal at the front desk was trying to help a little boy (guest) and his grandmother tie a tie. My husband ended up pulling up a youtube and they all got this kid hooked up for his big night out. Neat stuff. Great big breaky in the AM. You can avoid the junk and stick to the boiled eggs and fruit. Coffee is surprisingly yummy too.

Our family have used this Holiday Inn for many events. Everyone raves about their stay. This is very well run Holiday Inn (express) that has a full service feeling.
Great location with walking distance easy to reach the popular restaurants and shops.
Don’t pay downtown prices. This is a very good value.

This location used to value frequent guests and I was absolutely blown away by how I was treated.
I’m an IHG platinum member.
I arrived at 1:30 PM and was told room was not ready.
Wasn’t a big deal as check in isn’t until 3:00 PM.
So I sat in the lobby and watched a lot of people check in for 1.5 hours.
They knew I was waiting for my room they just let me sit there.
I figured well maybe they are giving me an upgrade as they normally do.
I get my key and head up to find out I was given the worst room I have ever gotten since I have started staying here years ago.
Apparently being a loyal customer is no longer appreciated by this location so I won’t be back.

Right off the 405 freeway.
Our room’s window faced a wall. That was our view– a wall. I would assume it helps to make our room quieter to be on that side. And the curtains. not the kind that you can bring together to shut out light. No sleeping in.
Overall, it was a decent room. nice HD TV with channels I know. firm bed with pillows embroidered soft and firm (although, the «firm» was soft). and I wish the coffeemaker wasn’t setup in the bathroom. Of all places! The room also had a fridge and microwave (frozen food available in the gift shop).
It’s an Express hotel so they have complimentary breakfast. But, you’re in Portland where restaurants are aplenty. In fact, you’re in walking distance to restaurants and shops. If you must though— you have complimentary breakfast available in this hotel. It also has an indoor heated pool and spa with posted hours and a 24-​hr fitness room with a few machines, weights, and a TV.
Free WiFi.
I like that they have a computer and printer available for guests so I could check-​in and print out my boarding pass before I left. I also appreciate that they have toiletries available if you’ve forgotten anything. I forgot toothpaste.
The staff was nice.
It’s a decent place to stay.
I’d stay again.

I’ve stayed here twice and had nice experiences both times… Although, this time, I had a corner room and, for some reason, it had a stand up shower? I have never stayed in a HIExpress with a stand up. Oh well. No big deal for me.
Nice location, if not a little sketchy on first glance. Right off the highway, but right within walking distance of my fave neighborhood — the alphabet district! I walked downtown from the hotel and it was easy. Free parking, nice staff, and requested a late check out and got it.
Thought it was great, I’d definitely stay again.
