Grocery Outlet

I wear SMALL bookbags instead of carrying purses so the book bag rule really urks me — you have to hand it over to the staff to shop there.
I have not shoplifted in over ten years — when I was in high school — but I can tell you, its A LOT easier to slip things into a handbag then to take off your bookbag, unzipper, slip something in and zip it up and put it on again. So the bookbag rule doesnt even make sense. Oh and coat pockets is a much easier option too. Why not confiscate everyones coats?

When in this general area and if needing to pick up some groceries, GO doesn’t mean step on it when the light turns green. It means stop at G.O. — Grocery Outlet.
Grocery Outlet, regardless of the store, gets about 3 stars, and this store, which is the one I’ve patronized most frequently is no exception. Actually, on a few occasions, they’ve patronized me.
Stars present:
1. Low prices across the board
2. They take plastic whereas low priced Winco does not, and they will bag your groceries
3. They have really good prices on vitamins (Rexall brand … nah, nah, none of that organic/​chelated high-​end stuff which won’t guarantee additional longevity for you health nuts, so you best be moving on), on toiletries (great prices for Mitchum deodorant, for example), and on produce and breakfast items such as cereal, oatmeal, and breakfast bars
Stars missing:
4. Their selection is limited because this store as well as the other G.O. stores are more like neighborhood markets and cannot compare to Safeways and other big chain stores in size and, along with that, some items (think Quaker Oats Oatmeal — chocolate chip flavor) might be featured one time and not there the next time because of the way they purchase lots
5. Mostly, their treatment of customers is passable, but it doesn’t approach that of the bigger supermarket chains where the higher prices almost mandate it. That said, I am echoing what was said in another review in that they are almost too vigilant in what people walk in there with slung over their shoulders, such as a backpack. I understand that the area is not Lake O and that their policy has to be applied uniformly, but they can dial their «gotcha» approach down a notch.
There you go. Grocery Outlet at S.E. Division and S.E. 122^nd is pretty much «there.» Grocery Outlet is pretty much ok.

Umm, so I LOVE this Grocery Outlet. It’s my favorite one in Portland, preferable even to the larger locations.
People associate GO with horrible eating (because yeah, they have sugar cereal and massive bags of chips for really cheap), but I’d like to think we eat pretty healthy and I shop here every week!
I don’t know why some of the reviews slam their produce sections… I’ve never bought nasty fruit or vegetables there (although I admit I have seen some sad looking berries etc.) Avocados, apples, sweet potatoes, and a rotating variety of seasonal stuff are what I’m after.
The NOSH (healthy/​organic) section and the coolers in the back are my favorite. They always have the most random stuff! I got some Chia seeds for SUPER cheap. And nut butters for 75% off regular price. And Lara Bars for less than a dollar each. Once I got Chia pods for 50 cents each! They’re like $ 3.50 at New Seasons! They sometimes have the big jugs of Odwalla juice for $ 3. I wish I’d bought more when they had the pom/​blueberry flavor.
If GO were my only grocery store, I probably would be a little disappointed (and malnourished). But as a supplement to Freddy’s or Safeway or wherever (somewhere reliable), it’s great. And FUN! I love the random stuff I come away with.

Very happy. Good service, low price and they have a ATM cause I really needed one! Also, the owner mike is very cool. He helped me find this type of bread I was looking for. I was amazed at the fact that an owner would take his time to help a regular old customer. I am always shocked when owners are courteous and helpful. It’s a nice change

I came here to buy one pack of gum and before I could even grab it at the checkout line, the lady at the register closest to the entrance told me I had to check in my purse/​book bag. I am probably the least threatening individual that was in the store at the time and I didn’t appreciate being profiled in a manner of thievery.
The whole approach was rude and unprofessional. If this location is doing that, at least have a system that makes me feel safe about leaving my belongings with a complete stranger. How do I know that an employee won’t ransack my things and steal my wallet when no one’s around? What if the person I left my things with goes on break and someone else is there when I come back to collect my bag? Just hire a security guard instead.

the owners are belligerent and unprofessional. When I called about an incident at their store, the owner hung up on me. They discriminate and require men to check their PERSONAL bags, backpacks etc but say nothing to women carrying in MUCH LARGER bags. I would recommend going to another location as they are all individually owned franchises in Portland. I am registering a complaint against this location with the Corporate offices of Grocery Outlet.

Great place for staples like bananas, yogurt and baking items for less than full price at the regular store. Sometimes they even have cocoa nibs, organic chicken or artisan popcorn for sale.

This store is very close to me but I never shop here. I’m a disabled pedestrian and I never know if I’ll be asked to give up my bag or not. They lay the bags they collect on the floor where people check out so if I have my computer with me I won’t be able to shop there. I’ve tried to ask them to put the bag in a safer place and they just roll their eyes at me and say it’s just fine. (Really? Would you feel comfortable laying your 1200 dollar laptop with your year’s worth of writing in the aisle of a grocery checkout?) I have been made so stressed out going into the store, wondering whether there will be an altercation about my bag or not or if I’ll be accused of stealing I’ve stopped going in. I’m a customer, I never steal. I deserve to be treated with respect! I deserve to shop in a place where I know that I won’t be harassed for not having a car.

I go to this store almost every week. No complaints about the staff, just a couple tips. If you find a really good deal, it will probably be sold out by the next time you visit, I’m always kicking myself for not stocking up on good deals. Check the expiration dates especially on SUPER good deals, I’m guessing that whatever expired products they are selling are still safe to eat but may lack in quality. I had a bad experience with instant potatoes, but we still ate them and no one got sick they just didn’t fluff up like they should.
They have a bathroom, which I think it always a bonus!
They have fresh veggies, and all the grocery staples, like sugar, milk, eggs, cheese, bread, etc., but I find the prices on these not as low as Winco. To me the fresh veggies looked just as good as the regular grocery store, but limited selection.

I love grocery outlet for wine, various hygiene items (many organic), and even produce can be good quality, but it is more hit or miss.

Odd ball deals on stuff. Some things are priced really well but other things are cheaper at Winco. Produce from here sucks! I never see fresh produce, it always looks like grocery store rejects. Not a good deal either.

This Grocery Outlet has only been open a couple months now. I waited a bit to go in just to let the novelty of being new to ware down. They have a really good selection and fair prices. I like this outlet better then the others I have been to. It has been extremely clean and not cluttered both times I have been in there. The staff is friendly and there is almost always someone on the floor to help you either find something or answer questions you may have. I will go back in the future.

This Grocery Outlet opened up not too long ago and is pretty awesome. Make sure you shop here before going into a big box store and you’ll save yourself a lot of money. They have a great selection of fresh meats, cheeses, dairy products, beer and wine, and produce. The frozen food deals are incredible as well. You may not have to go anywhere else. The store is family owned and operated and the staff is very friendly.
