We went here on a quiet Sunday evening. Food okay. Service okay. Prices fine. Portions good. Nothing distinct or notable to recommend.

This is the Best BBQ duck soup I’ve ever had anywhere on the West Coast including San Francisco. I like the rich broth in soup. Any of the wonton noodle soups are yummy. The chef roasts everything in/house. The wontons in the soup are soft and chewy. The roasted duck is also soft and well roasted. The proportions of noodle to roast duck is also evenly balanced.

I went here for the first time probably over five years ago when I visited Portland and was blown away by their tasty wonton noodle soup and HKBBQ meat. So much so that I was extremely hyped up to try it again after so many years. It did not disappoint. Still great this many years later. I definitely recommend the BBQ pork wonton mein. Soup is good, vegetable is good, and meat is good. What more can you ask for?

This is the place to go for Chinese downtown. Sure it doesn’t look like much but you can tell by the meat hanging in the window that it’s legit. I almost always get the wonton soup(the one with shrimp and ground pork). The duck is also pretty good. A little greasy for my liking. I should try more. Everything’s pretty cheap but I just can’t get over the wonton soup. Also very filling.

The only place to get a decent bowl of wonton noodle soup in Portland. BBQ pork is great as well as the other specialty meats they have hanging in the front window display. + Fast, efficient service Wonton soups Bbq meats Crab and corn soup — junk food version but still love it Beef chow fun - Don’t use the bathrooms

Old school Chinese joint in the best way. Had the combination soup, roast duck, porkbelly, wontons, char siu, baby bok choi and noodles in the best broth I have ever had. It was a cold nasty day and their broth turned the day around.

One rule I eat by: Would I take my friends here? Resoundingly the answer is NO! When it rains in Portland(and it does A LOT) the restaurant is damp, musty and the vinyl floors get funky to walk on. If you happen to show up at lunch time AND you get the table to the far back right you’ll be sitting/eating closest to the bathroom door. Which when someone to and fro goes you catch that to and fro whiff. Ok, that’s just the insides, let’s talk about the real insides, the food. I’ve ordered wonton noodle soup, and many varieties of it at Good Taste. I’ve also ordered some other common dishes here that I’ve grown up loving when in Chicago. Pump the brakes on this spot, before I hit that deer, this place is no good. Do not pass GO, do not collect $ 200. The noodles are clumpy and way too strong of flavor(egg noodles are supposed to take on a mild flavor that comes from the soup base. None of that, the noodles are way heavy on the artificial shrimp flavoring. The wonton skins are clumpy, and when you bite in they leave you biting down on chunks of skin that haven’t been cooked through and through. The filling, the gem you find eating a wonton is more like a rock. You bite in and it’s filled with tough pork, barely any shrimp chunks and filler just to pass it off as a wonton. I’m disappointed at Good Taste, especially because its my people that work here. But I guess every city needs a really bad Chinese food restaurant. Eat at Good Taste because it’s cheap(wait they raised prices the start of 2016) not because you want good Chinese food.

This one of my favorite places to eat at during lunch when I’m not buried in work. However my review is different to that of most people here. My family ordered a whole roast pork due to the birth of our baby boy. So one of the things we needed to do is basically notify our ancestors of a new family member. This requires a whole uncut roasted pork with the head still attached. We ordered it in advanced and they they made good on their promise with the whole pig. They had placed the pig in a box and covered it with red paper. Yeah it costed quite a bit but after we were done with our Chinese thing we cut the pig up to split with other family members and it was really juicy. The only problem with this place is that it’s by the homeless shelter… so putting all the food in the car was a little worrisome since I wasn’t sure after I paid if I would have a smashed window and a missing pig from my van. Love their won ton noodle soup.

Who is craving some good and cheap Chinese take out? I am, I am! Good Taste is your typical Chinatown hole-in-the-wall hidden gem. The prices are cheap, the staff does not speak much English, but enough to give you want you need. Most importantly, the food is phenomenally phenomenal. The roasted pork! The roasted duck! You can see the delicious meats there hanging and ready to go home with you once you give the chef with the knife the signal. We have also ordered noodle dishes to go, which they always cook perfectly. I also heard they have good wonton noodle soup, so I definitely want to check that out sometime. Overall, no frills straightforward amazing Chinese barbecue and noodles. The restaurant is pretty tiny and kinda dingy, so take-out is your best bet. Enjoy!

This is THE spot for Chinese food. Don’t let the inside or surrounding area fool you. Pork is amazing, and every dish is authentic and SO good. Literally, you will not find a better Chinese restaurant than Good Taste.

After all the good eats in PDX, my stomach was ready for some comfort Chinese food. My friend and I ordered the SUPERBOWL A. We ordered it with thick rice noodles. The noodles were a bit over cooked and were easily broken apart. Soup broth was flavorful. The most amazing part might be the fact that it comes with wontons, duck, BBQ pork, AND roasted pork. I guess this is why they call it the SUPERBOWL! We also ordered a bowl of congee with 1000 year old egg and pork. This one was just ok. Lacked a little flavor – tastes more like what I cook at home. But it’s so cheap! Is this the best Chinese food I’ve ever had? Probably not. But for the price and taste, I left very happy and would definitely come again.

I went here maybe five years ago when I lived downtown. I remember the service being poor despite being the one person in there, the General Tsaos having a thick, gross sauce, and having them charge me for tea. Typical garbage Portland area fare. I’m from DC, where Chinese food reigns supreme. Sadly, panda express is better.

The Cantonese wonton soup was good. The service was less than attentive and it didn’t smell great. Not necessarily bad, but not good either. The place was empty and atmosphere a little vacant. Probably wouldn’t have noticed with better or more personable service.

Amazing food at amazing prices! Good Taste is my favorite type of Chinese restaurant — dingy, hole-in-the-wall, and populated by actual Chinese customers(a sure sign that the establishment serves authentic food). I brought a friend who was in town here for late-night post-drinking snacks, and we each ordered a bowl of wonton soup. I couldn’t even finish mine, as it was chock-full of veggies, wontons and duck meat; the kitchen was very generous with portion sizes. On our way out, we also noticed the hostess giving a takeout bag to a homeless woman. I wish more business owners felt that sort of community obligation to help out the less fortunate in our area! I will definitely return to Good Taste for both the food and to support a business with heart.

Hole in the wall. No frills. I enjoyed my roast duck and bok choy with chicken oil. My husband’s chicken and broccoli was only ok, but to be fair this spot does more authentic dishes better it seems. Would have given 4 stars but there was a roach on our table. Husband trapped it under a tea cup while I was in the bathroom down the scary industrial hall. Not super cheap either.

Great roast duck and seafood chow fun. Gung pao shrimp good but sauce a bit thick for my tastes. Much better than most Cantonese food in Honolulu. Warning — next to a large homeless camp on 4th& Burnside; seem harmless and don’t beg, but a very sad group to look at. I don’t think the Ringside or Jakes would tolerate this outside of their places. Why do Chinese restaurants tolerate this stuff???

Tastiness that won’t break your bank! Want some fresh wontons? Handmade noodles? Or juicy, greasy, tasty barbecue meat? Well then you better come here because they have it all~ with good taste! Super bowl~ the massive heart attack of a bowl that can fit at least a few newborn babies or two there adults head! Filled with wonton noodles, diff types of bbq meat, wontons and everything else for a good $ 10! Regular bowls are around $ 8! And you get one choice of meat. Another super bowl comes with offal and wontons! Not as massive as the big one but it’s pretty good. Congee ~ plain for $ 2.50! And it’s not the one in tiny bowls. It’s pretty big! Their bbq plates are quite tasty too. It’s a no frill, eat and go place. Service is minimal. Food is plenty! You can always see someone Rollin those wonton babies like nobody’s business. Three of us had our massive bowls of noodles, soup, and meat for $ 25! Defitneily cured our hangovers.

Dang this place is sooo darn good! I don’t believe there’s that much MSG as you will find in a bowl of Phở. but everything is just soooo delish! Besides the location being shady due to all the homeless people around Chinatown, I will definitely come back. It does not look that clean at first but when you go inside it looks just like a regular family own joint. The duck there is amazing and also roasted pork made early in the morning. I wish there’s a place like this in SoCal. it is as authentic and tasty as it can get! Will def. be back! Also, the prices are great!

Whoa … Good Taste is a bit of an overstatement. I had lunch here with 3 Chinese from Shanghai and they all rated Good Taste Restaurant at 2 stars. I’m giving Good Taste a hometown discount for the effort and raising it to 3 stars(despite the numerous dirty tables throughout the restaurant). * Pepper and Salt Fish($ 12.95) A little soggy and rubbery, but fine. Wish it had more peppers.(3 stars) * Roast Duck($ 18.50) Lacked the juiciness or flavor we expected. Maybe too old(2 stars) * Preserved Eggs & Pork Congee($ 4.75) Relatively thin congee. Would of loved more pork/egg.(3 stars) * Beef Chow Fun Noodles($ 8.50) Safe and filling. A good option for just about anyone. Add spice.(4 stars) * Wonton Soup($ 6.00) A full bowl of typical wontons was popular to share(3 stars) Good Taste may not be Food Waste, but the food was clearly over-rated generic taste. With tempered expectations, Good Taste Restaurant will live up to hopes of serving classic Chinese-style food for Portland and tourists visiting Old Town Chinatown.

This place had amazing wonton noodle soup! It definitely did not disappoint. Coming from a Chinese background; wonton noodle soup is our dish that we order if we were ever in a hurry. It is our to go to dish if we can’t decide on what to eat. I’ve had wonton noodles in HK, noodles from SF, and NY. So I wasn’t expecting this place to be any better than those I’ve tried. What came was a huge 10″ diameter bowl of delicious wonton and duck flat noodles! I’ve always had a small spot for flat noodles because I love the wonderful texture. My boyfriend ordered the beef tendon over soup and he absolutely loved my flavorful and crunchy wontons. The wonton definitely made my day! The soup and the noodles complemented the wontons well! Although it costed $ 10 for a bowl of wonton soup I can get from NY for $ 5, it was good portion, 8 wontons and a huge bowl of filling food. Surprisingly I found an amazing place to go to if I ever need reminding of my childhood.
