Again, I was looking around for different quotes from a shop regarding the problem with my car, I am a girl, it seems to be an issue with some mechanics. They want to talk to me like I am at a disadvantage because of it. This place was one of those places. No thanks!

It’s rare to find quality, honest mechanics. Gary’s Auto is one of those rare finds. They have plenty of business, so they can be hard to get an appointment with, but it’s worth it. And because they have plenty of business, they’re not trying to get as much business out of every customer. I don’t have money to throw around and I didn’t feel at all pressured to spend any more than I had agreed to and planned. Ask for J.R.

I brought my 1979 Datsun pick up there because it was leaking oil. They took a look at it, and I was quoted 350 $ to replace the main valve seal. 350 $ to replace a main valve seal on a 1979 Datsun is fraud, pure and simple.

Gary’s has continued to earn my business with friendliness and great customer service. I bought 2 tires from them a year and a half ago, and since then they have taken care of a few punctures at no charge. Recently we needed to replace a rim that had developed a crack and Gary’s mounted, balanced, and installed at no charge — way above and beyond. Staff is always friendly and accommodating (especially J.R.) Don’t hesitate, these guys rock.

They are HONEST, NICE, they reccomend, not «you have to», KNOWLEDGEABLE, best of all… Jake repaired my Oldsmobile Omega, afterward I asked questions… he answered them without hesitation and without my feeling that I got «ripped off.
I shall return with wife’s car!

So let me say, these gentlemen here are awesome. I was stranded in a friend of mines car. I needed to get back to Washington so I could get home out of state. These guys worked me in, were nothing but kind and helpful. If and when I move back to Portland, these guys will be my mechanic for my vehicle. Thank you guys for rescuing me!!!

Awesome tire shop. I have a custom car with custom problems. When I came in though everyone at Gary’s played a part in finding the right tire for my car. Then when the original tire didn’t work out they had their parts driver go get another one from their warehouse right on the spot!
Compared to Les Schwab (which I went to right before then) I would 10 times over recommend Gary’s. Everyone there was super friendly and very helpful when I came in with my problems.
They also had great prices on tires too! I had seen the tires they choose for a little less somewhere else, and then they also did a price match for me. I have ZERO bad things to say about this shop. Highly recommended!!!

I don’t pretend to know much about cars or their mysterious inner workings. In fact, I make sure everyone knows this so that I don’t end up being a complete disappointment should someone call upon me for automotive help.
Thus, when I woke up one morning to find a flat tire I immediately called Gary’s to help me out and they set me up with a same-​day appointment.
After waiting all of 15 minutes in the lobby I was handed back my keys and was told I was «good to go». Cool. What does that mean? As I stood there dumbly I stammered, «S-​so, how much do I pay?» I was mentally prepared to drop a couple hundred on a replacement tire. Nothing. All they asked was that I «think of Gary’s next time I have any automotive needs.»
WHAT?! I didn’t even know what to do or say so I thanked them and happily drove off to by some celebratory Taco Bell. Is it bad that I almost wish I had more car problems just to go back to these guys? At least I can rest easy knowing that if anything does go wrong, Gary’s is just around the corner to help me out.

I was very impressed with Gary’s, and I am naturally skeptical of mechanics. My car has been looked at by a menagerie of mechanics, all over CA and OR, including no less than five different Ford dealers and several smalls shops. The car has had a check engine light on for a year, it’s an evaporation emissions control, and it’s either the charcoal canister was soaked with gas and was no longer doing its job, or a purge valve.
I had bigger fish to fry, and the light came on shortly after I registered the vehicle, but I did a lot of research and even took it to a dealer about 6 months ago.
I had a Ford dealer swear up and down that the issue was without a doubt the charcoal canister. They said they tested the purge valve, had worked on hundreds of these things before, and were ready to charge me triple the price of the part to install it. It was an easy job, so I told them «thanks but no thanks» and ordered the part myself. The part showed up damaged, and I was moving out of CA that week, so I put the project on hold.
Well I put it on hold a little too long and suddenly needed to get this problem solved FAST.
Additionally, the front end has been squeaking since day 1, and I’ve always suspected the ball-​joints, but I have every shop this car goes to tells me the same thing «ball joints are fine».
I sent the car in with some nebulous instructions «check engine light is on and it’s squeaking a bit up front».
They got back to me in just a few hours, said they were sure it was the purge valve and, sure enough, one of my lower ball joints was a safety concern. I bit my tongue and didn’t say anything about Ford and their vapor canister — and gave them the go-​ahead to do the work (the valve was expensive but the ball joint service was DIRT cheap).
They had the car back by noon the day after it was dropped off. That’s mind boggling. They told me the truth, which was that we wouldn’t know if the check engine light would come back on or not for sure until the drive cycle on the car completes (I knew this, but shops NEVER tell you this). I crossed my fingers and took the car in to DEQ the following week. Passed with flying colors, and the EVAP check completed so the issue IS FIXED! Plus, the front end squeak is gone and the car is less nervous.
NOBODY could nail down those problems and these guys had the car dialed and done in less than 24 hours — plus they were a pleasure to work with.

These guys are one of a kind! Thank you Dan and Jeff and the whole team at Gary’s Auto Care for fixing my car! Vehicle came in with a check engine light and this was the first shop I saw. Pulled in to their parking lot and walked in to ask about getting the check engine light inspected. Within minutes a tech walks out to my car and runs and checks the codes. The technician performs a few tests under the hood and then walks back to the office and goes over what is going on with my vehicle. Within a very short time the estimate was ready for my review and approval. Dan was kind enough to explain to me the details of what the procedure is to resolve my problem. Gave me a reasonable time frame and even offered to give me a ride home even though I lived on the other side of town. Jeff gave me a ride home and reassured me that everything would be done expediently. He even called me back after a couple of hours to let me know it was done and even offered to pick me back up and deliver me to my car.
If you ever need exceptional service without the runaround these are the guys to go to. Genuine, trustworthy, and Fast service is what makes this business shine!

Stay away! They quoted one price then couldn’t actually fix the problem but I still had to pay.

I’m a fan of Gary’s Auto. I really don’t know anything about cars and I always feel like they explain things in a way I understand. They’re in an industrial area but it’s easy to find despite that.
The service manager, Dan, is vegan which gives Gary’s Auto extra cool points in my book.

Just picked up my Jeep from getting its oil changed friday and I have to say Ive never gotten better service from any repair shop in my life! The team at Garys always seems to go beyond my expectations as far as quality and price of any service. They use top quality parts and have very skilled mechanics that seem to be able to do anything from rewire an engine harness a mouse decided to get into to a simple oil change and tires to rebuild my engine and install my 6″ lift kit. Very impressed with the range of skills and vehicles I always see in their parking lot.
When I first moved here a few years ago I went to several other local shops before Garys and always walked out thinking I got ripped off, and constantly up-​sold on things I didnt need. Ive referred many of my friends to them and they are all now regulars just like me:)
Oh and one of the nicest things is they have 2 courtesy shuttles, I call them in the morning, they come to my work, pick up my Jeep and deliver it back to me before im off work!

Took Honda in for a door lock problem. Was told repair would be $ 360. Called another mechanic we often go to, $ 160 estimate. When our mechanic took the door apart, they said the part was fine, just had a blockage. Gary’s had the door apart as well. Never going back to these guys.

I’ve been going to Gary’s several years and they have always been a reliable place to take any vehicle to for repairs. The staff are all very cool, knowledgeable and helpful. They make accurate estimates both on their time and the cost of repairs. Even better, their cost estimates are quite often a little less than quoted. I’ve even had them perform same-​day repairs that include valve gaskets & axle replacements. The one time I took my Outback to a dedicated Subaru shop the repair took longer and cost more than if I’d just taken it to Gary’s!
The shop also does a courtesy shuttle, which is a big help!
And yes, I am a little partial because one of the guys at the shop is vegan — rock on!
