Fred Meyer

This Fred Meyer is very conveniently located and generally always has what I set out to buy. It’s interesting that they display how many organic produce choices they have everyday on a sign in the department. I guess they’re really trying to show that they sell organic produce too and can compete with New Seasons across the street. They also have a good selection of organic options in their natural foods section. I actually dislike the concept of having all these ‘natural’ items together and all the ‘other’ food spread throughout the store. It would be much easier to compare products if all the tea or the milk or the chocolate was in one spot. I hate having to look for something in the ‘natural’ section, see that it’s not there, and then walk all the way over to somewhere else to see what other options I have. I’m sure Fred Meyer recognizes it would be much easier to compare if they were next to each other as well, which it why they spread them out, further encouraging anyone who’s going to spend three-​times-​the-​price on an organic item to do so, since they’re already shopping in that section. But I digress…
I don’t do much of my grocery shopping here. It’s usually the other stuff I’m looking for, like office supplies or gift wrap or fashion earrings for a costume party.
Their bottle return area is always dirty and sticky. I actually hate even having to walk by it because it literally stinks. It would be nice if they could devote some effort to making that area cleaner. Sometimes they sell ribs and other BBQ in the parking lot that somewhat combats the smell of the bottle return.

I thought this Fred Meyer was decent until I got an awful cashier. She was extremely slow. I thought that my tab was a little expensive even though I was buying lobster and filet mignon for New Years. I didn’t think to look at my receipt until I got home. Come to find out, I was charged $ 158.67 for the person’s groceries in front of me. I don’t typically buy lobster or filets so I thought the amount I paid at the cashier was okay. Although I had doubt. That’s why I checked my receipt. Thank goodness I did.
And you’re not getting one star just because I was charged for the groceries of the person in front of me for $ 168.67. In addition to that, the cashier was very rude. She was being talked to by her manager on the right side and hung my receipt in her hand. She was so slow that I just grabbed it. I felt so bad for the people behind me that I didn’t even think twice when I tried to use a gift card. That woman was so rude and didn’t pay attention to my question to use a gift card. How pathetic.

Considering this is my first time in a Fred Meyer’s store, I was really impressed.
This is a Super Fred Meyer store. It’s huge and goes on and on. Not only can you get your food there, but clothing, books, and other supplies as well. It’s super clean and the people that work there are super friendly. Anything you can think of it is there.
Be careful, you can spend hours in this store, it’s that exciting!

Wandered on here after some idle internet foray.
Today I want to talk about the Seafood Department. It’s that always irresistible urge to buy a two or three pound wild Pacific salmon for $ 3.99/lb. flawlessly and waste-​lessly filleted to perfection by the friendly folks behind the display counter!
I have filleted fish. It was not easy, and I was not good at it.
But these employees: They serve with a smile. They’re helpful, friendly, and patient. AND they usually assure me that my order will be ready in fewer than five or ten minutes.
Except for the occasional cod as well as the whole salmon, I rarely purchase anything else from the department. I buy what I buy with at least an idea about supporting the selling of only the more «sustainable» piscine species. Wish I could say that this Freddy’s was better than so-​so in this category.
I give them four stars partly because their Seafood Department sells wild salmon for $ 3.99/lb. Such a deal! But it’s mostly because the people who work behind the counter with the customers who merit the real kudos!

This Fred Meyer is a worthwhile place to shop. They have the usual food items, but also a large selection of clothing, electronics and more. Fred Meyer in Sullivan’s Gulch also dispenses Moonstruck truffles and it has a large cheese selection, along with some alcohol on tap. It is not as fancy as the one on Hawthorne, but it is unique enough among supermarkets, especially in comparison to the run of the mill Safeway.
Going here was fun. I got a black and white shortbread, a pastry that has always been much to my liking. I would prefer it if the additional lane of self-​checkout machines was available when I went. The stocking stuffers were exceptional, including a nine dollar selfie stick. Aisles upon aisles of food as usual were there, and I would do my shopping here on a frequent basis I lived near here. The cheese bargains were also not as good as in Hillsdale.
Fred Meyer delivers yet again.

This is the best Fred Meyer in town. The best selection. The cleanest, brightest aisles. The broadest selection of housewares. The freshest produce. The most hard-​to-​find international items. And genuinely nice, helpful employees. The location is somewhat odd, tucked between some one-​way and dead-​end streets near the Banfield, but the entrance is easy to find and this is by far the easiest, sanest parking area to enter and exit of not just all Freddies in town, but also of the New Seasons, Safeways, QFCs, and Trader Joe’s I’ve been to. Go here and just enjoy it all.

The pharmacy gets ONE star. Everyone seemed confused over the simplest thing. Rude, slow service. Weird guy. I’ll continue to buy groceries here, but I’ll never use the pharmacy again.

I like this Fred Meyer because it is a little bigger than some of the others (read: they have EVERYTHING, all departments and not a super limited selection). It’s also close to the hubs’ workplace so we can swing by at a moments notice on the way home. Plenty of parking as well.
This place was remodeled a while ago and has lots of grab and go options for foods (salad bar, olive bar, sushi, and hot items). They also have a pretty nice selection of wines and even a station for filling growlers. Pretty decent cheese counter too (the gals from Wisconsin notice these things, what can I say?).
They also tend to have printed out coupons from their flyer available by the discounted items, so if you forget your coupon, they have your back.

The most convenient Travelers Clinic in Portland operates out of the Pharmacy at the Hollywood Fred Meyer on Weidler. I needed Hepatitis A and Typhoid immunizations for an upcoming trip to Peru. I was unwilling to take time off work to go to one of the weekday business hours by-​appointment clinics, and it took quite a few calls and inquiries to find that Freddy’s — this one location only in the Portland area — offers immunizations on a varied schedule including occasional evenings. I got mine at 5:30 pm on a Friday, but was told that they offer immunizations as late as 8 pm on a few nights.
This is a one-​man operation, by Pharmacist Sean Toyooka, an engaging young man who appears well-​versed in immunization options. He works a varied schedule, so call ahead, work your way through the automated response phone tree to get to the pharmacy.
The immunizations I needed were no problem, they had them in stock, but it sounded like some more exotic ones might require ordering ahead of time. There are forms to fill out, no doctor’s prescription needed, bring your yellow immunization card, or, they’ll start a new one for you.
The only reason I rate this 4 stars instead of 5 is that Freddy’s website sure didn’t steer me here, the page just said that some Fred Meyer Pharmacies offer traveler’s immunizations, didn’t say which ones. And the first Freddy’s I called, the Johnson Creek one, had no idea, transferred me three times and eventually disconnected me. A call to the Interstate store steered me here.
Highly recommended as an efficient location to get your travelers immunizations at a time convenient for working people. I had a fine experience here, and so did my husband, six days later; his was at 10 am on a Thursday.

Seems like a Walmart-​esque kind of place: cheap products but at a steep price. BTW the one star rating is for their deceptive sale practices. Be sure to check your receipts before you leave the store. 3 out 3 times I’ve been to this store, I have been over charged. It’s not the cashier’s fault. The listed price is not what rings up in their register system.
The first time, I thought it was fluke. The second time, I was getting suspicious. The third time, I knew something was really wrong.

My Freddie’s of choice.
This location, at least in my experiences with other FM locations, is great. Very genuine, nice and helpful employees as well as knowledgeable produce associates.
I really like their organic section, it has really come a long way in the last 3 years.
I like the new paint stations and the pretty large beer area (they also do growler refill).
Wine selection is surprisingly good and you can find some bargains too. $ 35 wine for 18 (white hall lane, menage a trois) (sp)
The less than perfect dept is the «fresh fish» area.
I tend to stay away from it.
The pharmacy is good, some of folks who work here are on the kinda «Portland Weird» side but, are very helpful and professional.
All and all this is the best Freddie’s.

This is the grocery store we always go to and we truly love it! They always have everything we need and we usually walk out with double if not triple what we came for. Tonight I felt super compelled to write a review because we had the best service ever! So shout out to our checkout gal Rebecca and Christine in the organic section, your excellent service is why we drive past 3 grocery stores every time and make it to Fred Meyers! Thank you!

Ummm… This place has like a Whole Foods kinda thing in this one part of the store. It even has it’s own soap section. Like, there is the normal coffee section, then there is the one in this part of the store. The organic selection here is huge but it’s all cheap haha. Father of fam of four likes that.
New in town and ended up at another location thinking they were all the same and felt like i was in a WinCo… Gross.
Oh. They have a Peets AND a Starbucks haha i don’t mess with either but that is fuckin funny

Need a can of paint, socks, an avocado and a box of wine? ONE STOP!!! You might have to walk all over the place to get them, but good, time to sketch those legs. Add some lunges while you’re at it. Go check out the sale bins near the gardening stuff. Maybe you’ll find a lamp shaped like an Eiffel Tower! You deserve it.

Since the remodel it is become more upscale. It reminds you of a new seasons which is ironic because new seasons just opened up down the streetI guess it takes for new business to open up for them just for them to see they needed to make improvements but hey whatever works.
They have a lot of veggies organic they have a good gluten-​free selection they have a sushi bar fresh flowers, even got a Moonstruck in the middle.
They have more self checkout lanes than ever before.
I’m proud of you Freddys for making changes

It turns out that while I’m OK with the weirdness that is a Fred Meyer when they’re multi-​story, my support completely disappears when I’m faced with a single-​level version. The quirk becomes chaos and I get cranky.
Compared to my other Freddy’s experiences, this location seems less focused on food and more on being an «everything you could possibly want» emporium, and it suffers from diminishing returns. The food selection seems less complete, and there’s just a sense of disorganization. Plus, the lines at the check-​out are almost always crazy long.
I don’t need to buy my diamonds where I buy my almond milk. I also don’t need to come to this store, when saner locations are just a few extra minutes away.

This is not the Fred’s of my childhood.
This is generally a place I avoid at all costs because I inevitably leave there with a newly developed anxiety disorder. Can someone please tell me why, at all times of day weekend or not, night or morning, there are usually about 4 ½ check stands open? All the while there are what I presume to be managers looking on in a bored fashion? Perhaps they aren’t managers but people who enjoy wearing name tags. Today I saw a poor disabled woman wait at least 10 minutes for a new mobility chair as the one provided just died on her so she was stuck waiting and waiting– the only good thing is the wine selection as I invariably need a dealing drink after I suffer through a shopping trip there. Jesus wept…

THE MOST CONVENIENT STORE EVER!!!
Why isn’t there something like this in Los Angeles? I love that this is a ONE-​STOP store. You can pick up anything here, all in one place– household items, groceries, an outfit, garden supplies, furniture, literally… anything.
The store is HUGE, there is a great selection of product to choose from, and it is well-​organized. Their produce is fresh and they have an amazing cheese and beer selection. i love Fred Meyers!

Whoa Holly Fred Meyer, you went and got yourself a fancy facelift!
This was the first Fred Meyer is frequented when I moved to Portland ever so long ago. It wasn’t…great. It was okay. And the beer selection was tragic.
But after the remodel, wow. It’s like a, what, fancy grocery store that doesn’t have the prices of Whole Food. You had me right there.
It’s very spacious with a huge selection of fresh fruit and veggies (organic or not), fancy cheese, delicious deli, seafood and LIVE LOBSTERS. Yes, they have a tank of live lobsters scuttling around. The natural organic section is the biggest one I’ve seen at a FM so far as well. I’ve found things here I’ve not seen at any other FM either.
They of course have the selection of everything you’d need as well from clothes, cheap earring (my fav) and household needs (again traditional or natural/​organic).
Let’s take a second to talk about the beer selection — massive. The single bottle selection alone has me staring at it for at least 5 minutes just to make a damn decision. The six pack selection takes up the rest with local, domestic, imported and «beer» called Pabst.
It’s paper bags only or bring your own. It can get busy but the employees are helpful.
Also, this FM re-​introduced me to Orangina. That’s shiz is delish. DELISH.

Fred Meyer, for those that don’t know, belongs to the same group as do the Kroger food stores down in Texas. It’s why many of the store brands are Kroger. But even though Kroger has their Marketplace stores popping up around the DFW area, it seemed to me that Fred Meyer was a bit more elevated. I noticed that when I was in the bakery department and all of the cakes and hand made chocolates that they had. I can’t say I’ve ever seen that at any Kroger store.
FM had some great selections, and nice organic/​healthy food area, a really good selection of beers from Oregon and others from the left coast and well what I saw looked frsh and spot on. I know that this is a huge location, and I didn’t get to see as much of it as I wanted… we were in a rush to get to a barbecue. But the staff was helpful, especially writing my daughter’s name on a quick birthday cake in green icing (her favorite color) and we were out very fast and on our way.
I wish I had more time to explore. Down in Texas the Kroger’s tend to cater to the area, so there is quite a bit of local Texas products. I didn’t get the chance to find many Oregon based items that I might have wanted. But there’s always another time.
