Eastside Family Cooperative

While it’s been a while since my kiddo moved on, we still think fondly of EFC. My son made so many new friends, as did I, and we really felt like we were part of a family.
The classroom is well stocked and full of interactive learning opportunities. There was always something to do, and never did a kiddo get bored.
I only knocked off one star because of the time commitment. Because EFC does not have a teacher, parent involvement is crucial. When considering joining this family, be prepared to be fully involved in your child’s learning, and truly investing your time to enhance the experience for all. That said, the level of involvement is what made us such a tight community, and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!

What a treat it’s been to have our daughter involved in Eastside Family Co-​op for the past year.
Like many families, we are Portland transplants and don’t have extended family nearby. Our wonderful partner families at this sweet, 100% parent-​run, daycare co-​op have been the aunts, uncles and cousins to our 3-​year-​old. She has thrived in her little cohort, as have we, knowing we have other parents to share stories with and gain insight from.
Our daughter was in a traditional daycare for a while, and we felt a disconnect from her daily activities. With my husband’s weekly participation as a «parent on duty» at EFC, we have perfectly clear insight into, and direct involvement with, the activities and experiences our daughter enjoys there.
Between meetings and group communication online and planned as well as ad hoc events, it’s been great for me and my husband to have the camaraderie of other parents of toddlers. I can’t recommend EFC highly enough.

This is a great alternative to the typical day care scenario. Parents are in charge and can make it into whatever you wish for your child. It does require parents to work though. Each parent has a job and one parent watches the kids worth other parents one morning a week for about 4 hours.
It’s well worth it if you can manage.
It’s great to have a community of like minded parents and kids to grow up with.

EFC has given so much to our family. Our son has thrived in this loving community of likeminded individuals. EFC’s affordability and parent involvement were the main draws for me in the beginning as this was my child’s first taste of schooling, but my experience there has evolved into something so much greater since I started this journey over a year ago. Not only is it all of the above mentioned things, but it is also a great way to socialize your child before preschool. Co-​op provides a wonderful platform for new skills in a group setting such as; potty training, learning to share, speech development and fine motor skills.
EFC has connected our family with a network of parents in the area that we might not have met otherwise and I am particularly grateful for that. We adore our co-​op family and will miss interacting with them on a weekly basis when we graduate.
We will always hold a special place in our hearts for EFC, the community of families that make it great and the philosophy of co-​op!

We love Eastside Family Co-​op! We feel so incredibly lucky to have found this amazingly supportive community. Our son receives loving, engaging, attentive childcare, and has thrived there over the past year. We are transplants to the Portland area, and this community has truly provided us with a new family. We are sad that our son will be graduating soon, but we know that the friendships we have made here will be long lasting!
