DSU Peterbilt & GMC Inc is a five location Sales, Service, Parts, Leasing, Rental, and Wreck Repair company founded in 1945.

We are an official dealer for Peterbilt, GMC, UD Truck, Isuzu Commercial, and Worhorse Custom Chassis, featuring everything from light and medium duty, up through Class 8 trucks. Our motto is «Nothing but Trucks Since 1945» and we have proudly served the trucking community in Oregon, Washington, and Northern California, through our locations in Portland, OR, Medford OR, and Kelso WA.

We offer commercial as well as retail sales, and are a certified PacLease and NationalLease franchise, as well as a GM Business Central Dealer. Our parts department is one of the most well stocked in the NW and we offer discounted prices on all items. Our service departments are nationally renowned and where our name came from (Diesel Service Unit).

History

Established in 1945.

DSU was founded in 1945 by three young diesel mechanics with little more than their tools and expertise with diesel engines and components. The first «shop» was little more than a tarp hung from a telephone pole behind a furniture store in North Portland. They chose the name «Diesel Service Unit» because they didn’t have room for complete trucks.

Word spread about the abilities of these mechanics and their philosophy of «We’ll treat the customer the way we would like to be treated: Honestly, Fairly, and with Respect». Finally a truck shop that understood truck owners and catered to them exclusively!

DSU was able to expand and is now a five location business employing around 200 people and has some of most knowledgable truck sales associates, parts personnel, leasing people, and expert technicians in the Pacific Northwest.

The Basin Av. location is our Light and Medium Duty truck sales, parts, service, leasing/​rental facility, as well as heavy duty sales.

Business Owner

DSU was founded by Wallace Yost, Bill Prothero, and Jim Montgomery in 1945. Bill and Jim retired over the years, and Wallace (Wally) maintained an active role in the business up until February 2009 when he passed away at the age of 91.

For the past decade Wally’s son Jan has been at the helm of DSU as company president and majority owner. Jan is on the National Dealer Council at General Motors and active in the commercial trucking industry with Peterbilt, Isuzu, GM, and UD Trucks. An Oregon native, Jan is an avid outdoorsman and family man who enjoys racing, fishing, hunting, and of course, his love for DSU and it’s employees!
