Donut Byte Labs

I arranged for Donut Byte Labs to come into my office (law firm in the Peal District) and serve donuts as a welcome-​back-​from-​the-​holidays event. Even though Portland was shut down due to snow the day before the event, and the roads were still icy, Dieter kept in touch, got the donuts going and made it to the event with dozens of beautiful, adorable DELICIOUS donuts. The hot chocolate and hot chai he brought with him paired wonderfully, and the whole office was raving about them all week. Highly recommend! The size of the donuts is perfect — just over bite-​sized — you can try 3 different kinds without feeling guilty. I’m going back to try to the candied bacon. :)

Fantastically delicious donuts. Holy crap! While 100 people waited outside of Voodoo we found this little gem. My mouth had six (6) orgasms. Maybe seven, I can’t remember.

I had the Burnside Cream next door at Dante’s with a Guinness and it paired excellently.

Yummy little doughnuts, crisp on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, lovely toppings. The candied bacon is also on point. No line of smoking hipsters 50 deep. The guy who served us also recommended a really great pizza place. Super friendly.

For a food cart that sells donuts, this place was awesome! We got both the French toast and peanut butter flavor, and although I liked the French toast much better (I feel like it had cream cheese frosting) I was pretty impressed and surprised by the fact that they had a huge amount of real peanut butter and chocolate on their peanut butter cup donuts. I mean, those things were completely lathered in real peanut batter, and the way that he made them by hand, I can imagine it would take a while to serve these if the cart was any busier.
Anyhow, I tried both this place and Voodoo donuts, and although Voodoo had very creative flavors, I have to say that I really do think that this place has better tasting donuts, so avoid the crowd and stop by here!

Portland has a great selection of street vendors for all of your cravings, this is one of the gems among the plethora of choices. It’s not as cooky as the place down the street, but you’re not going to wait an hour in line either.
You can see the donuts cooking in the window so you know they are fresh. I got the maple and bacon donuts and they were warm, generously dipped in maple icing with a huge dollop of crunchy bacon.
They were an explosion of flavor, I wasn’t a block away and they were gone and I was thinking about turning around and going back for more.
So, if you want to try something warm, tasty, and fun, give this place a go.

Among the best donuts I’ve ever had because they are so FRESH. Even basic recipes taste great, and there are more creative ones, too. This place was our second choice after seeing the line for nearby Voodoo Doughnuts wrapping around the corner. What a great alternative. Why wait ½ hour amongst the hipster hordes when you can get satisfaction right away here.

Pricing is on point! These little guys are an absolute pleasure to put in your face hole. We’ve tried quite a few of them and my favorite is definitely the pumpkin french toast one! The Burnside crème is a close second with their simple glazed being my third favorite. They are not too sweet and just the right softness and texture when you are demolishing them.
Like I said, pricing is great for these. Pick one flavor and get three for $ 3! The three simple flavors they offer are only $.50 each. There’s hella limited sitting around aside from the make shift curb or planter box seating. Parking (free) is also non-​existent considering we’re right in the heart of downtown. Aside from that we really love everything this place has to offer. They’ve even got some coffee at a really good price. I think a 10oz was only $ 2 w/​$ 1 refills.
We’ve already visited here two times and will definitely be back for a third, fourth and fifth!

I was excited to try this place because the donuts looked so good! I saw a sign that said $ 6 for an assortment of 12 mini donuts so I thought sure! I asked the guy at the counter to help me choose some which he did with no smile or real interest. In fact he looked irritated that I interrupted him from doing nothing. He charged me $ 13 for my mini donuts and I just decided to let it go. No idea why that happened. However they looked a lot better than they tasted. The original donut is just topped with different toppings. The base I didn’t feel was very good. Some of the toppings and sauces were really well done. Especially the crème brûlée. Too bad the service was so poor. If you can’t get excited about your product, neither can I.

Oh hell yessssss
Do yourself a favor and get the Big Test box. It’s just a bunch of byte sized (had to pun that) sinful, treadmill cringe worthy goodness. Sure, you can say it’s for the co-​workers… and if it’s really meant for a group, don’t open the box until it’s time! Use the order ahead option and keep it sealed. Take that caveat and do with it what you will.
Just writing this review motivates me to place an order for the team… And maybe a box to take home for the beasties.

I think I found my new favorite donut spot.
This place is delicious. I love the variety, so I got a mix and match of 6 donuts. I literally ate all of them within a few short minutes because they were all so good. I thought I might eat one or two and save the rest for later, but no. There was no way that was happening.
I’d told my roommate about this place a few months ago, and we usually have a deal where we bring each other desserts to share and whatnot. She snapped me a photo of the donuts, and so I was super excited to get home to try one. Needless to say, she had the same issue that I did. The donuts never made it home. Now I understand why.

Best place I’ve been in 2015, hands down, easy. I got a mixed dozen for $ 10 and really enjoyed the portion sizes, freshness of some donuts (warm and fresh drizzled honey) and creativity of others (pre-​made strawberry shortcake).
I’d definitely go back. They do seem to have weird hours, I drive down Burnside to get to work.

Bite-​size holiness!
I was going to walk to the tourist trap that is Voodoo Doughnut a few blocks away so I could bring something to a team event in Big Pink not too long ago, but my coworkers, who are locals, discouraged me. I’ve had Voodoo before and didn’t think anything bad of it – but really, it’s very difficult to find a bad doughnut anywhere in the world.
I did a little bit of Unilocaling and came across this food truck. I called the number a few minutes before the listed opening hour, but someone picked up. I asked for what might be best for a bigger group, and he suggested the Test Box, which was 30 assorted pieces, including the newest flavors, for $ 30. He said I could pick it up in 45 minutes, since he was already busy getting another Test Box order ready.
When I got there 45 minutes later, he was still working on the tiny doughnut decorations. I didn’t mind at all — I was more amused, actually. I enjoyed watching him work. He was very meticulous and really seemed excited with what he was doing. It was also his birthday that day — he looked genuinely happy to be doing this on his birthday.
While I was waiting, a friendly Portlander approached the food truck and waited with a smile for her turn to order. A few other locals arrived. They all told me I made the right choice of skipping out on Voodoo for this.
My coworkers were all impressed with the looks and flavors of these tiny balls of heaven. They loved the idea that they could easily sample various flavors without having to tear bigger doughnuts apart. Personally, my favorites were the maple bacon and the salted caramel, but I didn’t hear a bad thing about any of the flavors in the box.
There are other doughnut places in Portland that I have on my must-​try list, but I think I definitely found something special here. I’ll be back someday!

I had been dying to try Donut Byte Labs and lucky for me I had a couple of foodie friends visiting town. We decided to dedicate an entire day to food carts and this was our first stop. We arrived around 10am on a Thursday and it was deserted. Unfortunately, there was construction happening on the corner, which is basically right next to the only table out front. It was super loud and they were digging up the street. We decided that it would take more than a little noise to keep us away, so we headed straight for the window. We quickly settled on a dozen, we wanted one of each of the advanced flavors.
The donuts came out pretty quickly and we got to work, splitting most of the tiny donuts into quarters. I have to say that they are pretty sweet, you really only need one or two, so I was happy we were sharing them. The Burnside cream was a favorite of mine. It is like a Boston Crème, but with a nice drizzle of chocolate sauce on top. The pastry cream was rich and delicious, it complimented the chocolate well and wasn’t too sweet. I was also a big fan of the lemon, the lemon flavor sang through. The rest kind of fell in the middle for me, I could take them or leave them. I was a little disappointed in the crème brûlée, I really wanted it to have that burnt sugar crunch to it and it didn’t. You just can’t sell a soggy donut as a crème brûlée donut, it doesn’t work.
I would definitely try them again if I was in the area, it’s a really cute idea and I love that they are constantly testing out new flavors.

This place ties with Pip’s as the best donuts in PDX. I loved the salted caramel and crème brulé; however, Pip’s maple bacon is better. The first time I went, the donuts were made fresh, but the second time it was not. I do think that Pip’s donuts are oilier, so I prefer byte labs in that respect. Labs gets an edge over Pip’s in terms of convenience because there was only one person in front of me each time I visited Labs (as opposed to the chaos at Pip’s).

I got a dozen of assorted «advanced» flavors — Crème brûlée, salted caramel, peanut butter cup, Boston cream (although it was called something else), French toast, and milk and honey. My favorite was probably the Crème brûlée and peanut butter cup. Each bite does pack a ton of flavor. The guy working makes them by hand one by one so it can take a while to get your order if there are quite a few orders ahead of you. I was told it would take 20 mins for my order and it did take exactly that. Keep in mind they are cake donuts so if you like raised donuts, this isn’t the place for that.

Stumbled upon this food truck while wandering solo thru Portland. Even tho I had just gorged myself on food at the Saturday market, who could say no to mini donuts?! Self control dictated that I could only have one… so I went with the crème brûlée. It was amazing how much care the donut guy put into torching it. It was like he was making art. Shame that it only took 10 seconds to down that baby.
Definitely recommended for anyone wandering through Portland! Soo goood! I wish I could have tried all the flavors.

Donut Byte Labs have the best donuts I’ve had in Portland! Tender, crispy on the outside, soft chewy and moist on the inside: wow! And, they’re mini which is so cute! I especially loved the powdered sugar and cinnamon sugar ones, though the salted caramel ones were decent, and my partner swore by the maple bacon one! They have a lot of interesting flavors which I look forward to trying. The people who work there are super friendly and happy, which makes me happy. And, their hours are great: on Thursdays-​Saturdays, they stay open till 1 a.m., and Sunday 11 – 6.
I just bought their deal — $ 5 for $ 10 worth. Go try them! You’re going to love them!

Holy cow these are worth it. The food cart is not in the best location. However they make the best of it by placing clean tables out front.
The donuts are better than Voodoo (which is less than 1 block away).
Warning: they do take their time to create these delicious baby donuts. However these are made with quality in mind.

Lots of fun bite sized creations. He threw in a couple samples as well. Not too hard to choose from, there’s only 6 mini-​donuts on the menu. Just get them all and maybe share some. Maybe.
The place is centrally located on the corner of Never A Left Turn and If I Go Right, I’ll End Up On The East Side And Can Never Get Back. Parking is particularly annoying if you are trying not to walk.
The donut robot makes good donuts, the kind you’re used to at the fairs, but the half-​life of a mini donut is about 20 minutes before it goes stale. When you get the donut you have no idea how long it’s been sitting on the display turnstile slowly dying. The method is to revive them with interesting toppings. Most attempts were a success.
Some of the toppings are fun and interesting. Some are a take on normal full sized donuts, but smaller, like the cream filled creations. Some are a bit more eccentric. Like the sriracha which I thought made a good palette cleanser at the end. The wife disagreed.
Seems like, off of peak hours, the donuts should be made to order. Even when they were pre-​made he still added toppings to some of the donuts in the tray we were handed, but the donuts had been sitting around in the open air at room temp for who knows how long.
There’s only one type of batter which is kind of boring.
It’s a cute little place to stop and get a fairly cheap snack, but doesn’t scratch an itch that can only be filled with donuts, sadly.
