Deveraux Glen

We lived in this complex for 6 years and had our share of ups and downs. We lived in a two bedroom, two bathroom unit in the far back corner by the wooded area. It was very quiet compared to units that face the parking lot or are closer to the roads.
Pros:
Location– very close to the freeway, very close to Sunset Transit Center, very close to downtown Portland (without taking the freeway)
Dog/​cat friendly– it can be hard to find an apartment complex that rents to pet owners
Lots of storage– you can rent garages or small storage closets around the complex
Maintenance– you have to call in to a remote call center to place orders for repairs but the local maintenance staff was always prompt and completed the tasks.
Secure package delivery– the front desk picks up all the FedEx/​USPS package deliveries and you have to sign to pick up boxes from the desk. It was nice knowing packages wouldn’t disappear from our doorstep. It was sometimes inconvenient to get the packages during open office hours but at least they are secure.
Cons:
Parking– Unless you pay for a carport or garage, you will be fighting for a spot every single day. Every spot in the lot is taken if you try to park after 6pm. There is no guest parking. Street parking is not convenient either so you end up parking by neighborhood houses and walking a ways. I’m sure the neighborhood absolutely hates Deveraux Glen. Your friends will never find a parking spot and if they do eventually they will have to walk a mile to your place and also have a hard time finding it in the maze of units. Get descriptive with giving directions.
Dogs on the property– They do a fair job of making sure people pick up dog poop by constantly leaving notices on everyone’s doors but the apartments can’t really do much about that. There are very few green spaces for them to go so there’s gonna be poop.
Other residents: There’s a fair mix of families and young professionals that live here but in the summer, the pool is filled with the stereotypical douchebags. It’s a party scene and apparently you have to get dressed up, wear high heels, and jewelry to go to the pool there.
Price: Too high for my family but with the way prices are in Portland, I guess it’s the going rate. It was raised $ 100-​$ 200 at every lease signing so we always tried to sign the longest lease we thought we wanted.
Lightbulbs: The light fixtures are terrible and cause the bulbs to burn out much quicker than they should. The complex makes you pay to replace them unless you do it yourself. We spent at least $ 100 on lightbulbs in the years we lived there.
Management– There is always someone different working in the office and we were often given different and contradictory information by each person that worked there. I never felt like I could 100% trust the word of someone there so if we had an issue we would get agreements in writing. I found the office workers often acted stuck up just like many of the residents. They act like residents should know everything about how the complex works but that is why there is staff there. It always seemed like getting them to do their job was an inconvenience.
One major issue we had was that they almost kept us from getting approved for the next apartment we wanted to live in. The new apartments called Deveraux to see if we had any complaints against us. Whoever answered the phone said we had 4 complaints in our time there so the new place didn’t want to rent to us. The staff member told the new apartments that they were not allowed to say what the complaints were, it was against their «policy». We did not know we ever had received complaints so we went to the office to ask about them and the staff said we didn’t have any complaints and didn’t know who answered the phone and told the new place we had complaints. We asked them to call the new apartments and correct what they reported but they wouldn’t do it. Such a headache to get that sorted out and made us even more driven to get out of there. Finding housing is very stressful and they were completely unhelpful in our move-​out and in fact slowed down the process for us, costing us a lot of money and time.
Other comments:
We were charged almost $ 500 for apartment repairs upon move out but we don’t feel this was an unfair amount. We had lived there 6 years and left with a hole in a door, a hole in the linoleum, our cat had scratched wood molding, and several other small damages. It worked out to about $ 7 a month for all the months we lived there.
We paid to have the unit walls painted when we moved in and the painters were very messy. They left paint splatters all over our bathroom and several spots on the carpet. It wasn’t a good job at all.
I feel like all of these things are par for the course when renting but get everything in writing and save your documents with this place. Don’t pay for anything extra if you can help it. Make «friends» with the office staff and maintenance so you can get fair treatment.

I lived there for a year:
Pros:
1. spacious and nice apartments with a plenty of storage. I lived in 2 bed and 1 bath a little over 1,000 sq ft. make sure to request to ask for a newer apartment. older apartments do not have as much storage space. But you have the option of renting a storage space or garage. (with a fee)
2. great location. 15 mins to downtown and 15 mins to Hillsboro (where my husband works) and 15 mins to Tigard. Near sunset transit station (10mins walking distance)
3. dog and cat friendly (with fees)
5. Grounds well maintenanced
6. Pool, gym, and hot tube
7. Washer/​dryer in the apt
8. Great school district. — West Tualatin Elementary school
9. Grocery stores near by
Cons:
1. Parking is a nightmare after 6:30pm. A reserved spot costs about $ 40 month. No spots for guests. Your car will get towed if you do not have a parking pass in the car.
2. Pool is overcrowded. On the weekends, everyone seems to invite their friends over and looks like a springbreak party
3. No lights in the bedrooms. Install your own or pay to have it done
4. Must pay extra if need the lightbulbs replaced (if do not own a ladder). $ 5 per light bulb for labor and extra $ cost of the bulbs, I believe. if changing own bulbs, they use the most unusual size bulbs. My husband went to a couple of stores before finding the right sizes.
5. No fans. install own or pay to have installed
6. If painted the walls, you must repaint them back to white before moving out. Even though the maintenance crew will repaint regardless if the walls are white or nonwhite in preparation for the new tenants.
7. Keep your eye on your bank account statements. They once charged a fee for unknown reason. If we didn’t complain, they may not have refunded us.
8. A limited green space. There is no space to run my dog or kids to play at
9. Questionable lawn maintenance practice. Ever since we moved in, my dog is constantly chewing her paws. She didn’t have this problem a prior.
10. Pay attention to your electronic rent payments. we were charged late fees because their payment system wasn’t working properly and didn’t acknowledge our payments as paid on time.
11. Noisy! Car alarms constantly going off (particularly at 2,3,4am), drunks at 3am, Lawn maintenance crew making noise. Your upstairs neighbors turning on the dishwasher (very loud), clothes washer at midnight. It never stops. Don’t get an apt on the 1^st floor or the ones facing the parking lot to help minimize the noise.
12. A towing company, with the approval from the apartment management, circles the entire parking lot and preys on cars to tow. It will cost about $ 350 to have it out of the impound lot.
13. No fiber optic internet service. Frontier Internet provider company told me that the management wouldn’t approve for the set up on the property.

Currently living at Deveraux Glen (5 months)
CONS:
— Good luck getting your packages! They intercept 90% of mail and stick it in a huge closet in the clubhouse. They leave a slip in your mailbox (sometimes) and you have to go to the office and sign for it (even if the package does not require signature). I’ve had family express mail me something and the office took it but was closed when I got off work and then closed when I left for work the next day and then closed when I got off… do you see where I’m going with this? Basically you better be watching for your mail like a hawk or pray that you are available to go in the office between 10:30−6p. Prime example: I had gifts arrive on Christmas Eve. I got off work at 3p and was so excited to receive my mail. The office conveniently closed early (like 12p) and did not open again until ¹²⁄₂₆. Therefore I spent Christmas WITHOUT being able to open the gifts my family had sent.
–The walls are paper thin. I’m not even kidding. My neighbor and I could have pillow talk. I usually hear his pillow talk anyways. The guys above me are so LOUD and heavy footed that 2 of my light bulbs literally fell out and busted. Then Deveraux Glen charged me $ 10 to replace a bulb without notifying me it cost to have bulbs replaced. Really? The road noise is pretty bad too. I can hear the daily commute of everyone on the freeway. BLAH!
— Parking… there is none… unless if you don’t have a job and don’t come home in the evening at a regular time.
–Pet fees and monthly pet rent for a fully trained 3.5 lb dog: Adds an extra $ 35 monthly ‘pet rent’

Brian is spot on! RUN as fast as you can from this place. They will fleece you! I lived there for 4 yrs. I can take the crappy parking and the paper think walls (you can hear the next door neighbor doing anything… and I mean ANYTHING – knew all this before I leased there, so I was totally fine with it. But, I was shocked by how deceitful they are. They gave me a free carpet cleaning when I extended my lease, which I said I would use for when I move out. They said it’s okay. Move out comes, they send me a $ 200 bill for a carpet cleaning! What?! Oh, It gets better! When I moved in, I saw what like like a cough syrup stain in the bathroom – pretty damn hard to miss. It was in the middle of a bathroom. I told the guy who did the walk through if they could clean it up. He said they tried but couldn’t get rid of it. He said he’ll make a note of it on my file. So what do get with my carpet cleaning bill after move out? Yep, a bill for a stain removal. WTF?! I called them about both charges, but they told me they couldn’t «find» the notes on my file. Very convenient. They passed my acct to their corporate office and they’ve been trying to get $ from me for the last 9 months. They don’t know that they’ve met the most stubborn person in this universe. I’ll never pay a dime of these bogus charges. It’s a matter of principle. If you’re looking to rent, or you’re a relocation agency looking to use them for corp apt, please don’t. As consumers we vote with our wallets. We can’t let people like them operate with impunity like with we’re docile infants.
PS. I believe in fairness, so I can tell you two great things about them. 1) location. Great if you work in Beaverton/​Hillsborough and want to love somewhere between work and the city. 2) Good pool and gym. Bonus, I like the layout of their apartments. Good use of space.

Great place to live if you can’t afford to live in the center of Portland. Apparently its a 6 min drive to downtown, which normally takes me about 10 mins — no complaints here!
I’ve also noticed that people are complaining about the office staff. I couldn’t DISAGREE more with the reviews below. The office staff is really nice, def not stuck up, and they always bend over backwards to answer my questions or help out. I would say the staffs’ service is actually spot on! I can’t imagine how office staff would be ‘stuck up’. Oh well.

The apartments are nice enough but management is terrible, and parking is a pain — to say the least. We were charged for the smallest things when we moved out. We had only lived in this complex for 5 months as we looked for a home to buy. There was absolutely no damage done to anything in the apartment in the limited time we were there. When handing in our keys they neglected to ask us for our parking passes back — then charged us $ 50 for them even though we mailed them to the office! If you absolutely must stay here, do NOT pay a deposit and sign as short of a lease as possible. STAY AWAY! Avoid the corporate managed apartments and find a nice small apartment building, home or duplex.

The setting is nice. I love the location and view of trees behind the apartments.
Cons: nightmare parking. The parking is patroled by a tow truck that tows cars of residents and non residents. There are no guest parking. No assigned parking. I have to walk a long distance after i park in very few designated disabled parking spot. My car was towed once because i was parked over the line because i could not get out of passenger spot. There is no consideration given to people with disabilities. Their maintainance goes home after 4. I have lived in riverstone apartments. Riva on the park exceeds expectations. Deveraux glen is the opposite

I have lived at Deveraux Glen for two years and I agree with a lot of the reviews, but I will still list my own opinions and hope they help!
PROS
–Complex– attractive, very clean (I mean immaculate, the ground crew comes every week, year round).
–Parking– summer is fine, having a covered spot or garage is highly recommended in the winter or after 8PM.
–Apartment– very clean, spacious, modern, washer/​dryer in unit, dishwasher, quiet (I live on the top floor, but I can say I have NEVER heard my neighbors), huge bathroom, heaters in both bedroom and living room.
–Maint. staff– always around and willing to help, they do everything including changing light bulbs in the high ceilings.
–Office staff– currently (⁰¹⁄₂₀₁₃), very nice and no complaints (see below).
–Not a lot of families (i.e. no children running around!!)
–The fitness center although small is clean and unused most of the time. There are televisions, water, and enough equipment to get a total body workout, plus free yoga three nights a week!
–Close to Hwy 26 and 217, and Burnside St.
CONS
–Complex– huge, difficult for visitors to find your building without you physically holding their hand and walking them there. Lack of grassy areas for our four legged friends (not ideal for dogs that need to run), which also means a lot of poo in small areas.
–Parking– could drive you mad if you are impatient or lazy, there is always street parking, but it’s a hike. Winter time you are hard pressed to find a spot after 6PM (seriously). Parking for visitors– STREET, the tow truck people are vultures and they have a sick enjoyment for their job, leave your car unattended without a pass in the complex and it’s GONE to the tune of $ 300.
–Apartment– no A/​C or ceiling fans, but you can purchase them yourself and maintenance will install them for you.
–Maint. staff– no complaints.
–Office staff– I will have to agree with other reviewers here, up until recently the staff have been really difficult to interact with, rude, disorganized, unprofessional, etc. There is a ton of turnover in the office.
–One pool for a TON of people, you will see people setting up their spots at 10 AM on hot days, there are not enough chairs or area for the amount of people that live here. Also the youngsters (early 20’s) seem to invite all their friends.
So there is my lengthy overview, hope it’s helpful!

PROS:
+ Excellent location, easy access to major freeways and downtown
+ Right next to Sunset Max station for tram, bus lines
+ Nearly new buildings
+ Quiet for such big complex
+ Pool for summertime (hard to find in pdx)
CONS:
— Parking is a nightmare, there are roughly 50 spots for thousand of units unless you want to pay an obnoxious «covered» spot fee
— Bit over priced for basic apartments
— Lots of hidden fees get attached to your account with little description
— Tow truck company that the complex uses are major DB’s, they will tow your car without hesitation, I’ve seen them tow a car while the person was standing outside their car. I’ve had my car towed while it had the parking pass in the car and the tow company wont help or give you any information until you give card info over the phone.
— The maintenance staff is great. However, the office staff is horrible. every single person I’ve come in contact with is condescending and not willing to help, I pay $ 1200 a month and would expect to be treated like a decent human being. Their office manager always sits in her office doing god knows what and the assistant office manager needs a refresher on customer service.
— I’ve lived in D.G. for almost 2 years and have seen rent raised every time I renew my lease, when I first moved in I paid around 900 now I pay 1200.
Overall, the location is quiet unbeatable, you are 15 minutes from anywhere on the west side. The apartments are nice and quiet but honestly the office staff constantly puts a bad taste in my mouth every interaction I’ve had with them. For the price, you can definitely find much better, you’re purely paying for location.

I have lived at the devearux glen since March and I really like the place. The apartments are spacious and really clean and the staff is very nice and efficient. I would highly recommend this complex.

Apartments are pretty nice and worth the price. The community doesn’t have allot of families (plus!), so there army many children running around. Parking isn’t as bad as people say, if you just get a space or garage. If you can’t afford $ 30 for a reserved space you probably can’t afford your apt anyway.
The staff is worse than people say, totally stuck up. They don’t think there better than you they actually know it. I would dred picking up packages from the office. They are terribly organized, seemed like every three months they would call or leave a note on my door asking me for a piece of information that was in my lease.
Other than the staff it was a great place to live. Mostly clean and the apartments are newer and in a good location.

I’ll admit that the second I turned onto the street that leads into the complex, I was sold. I definitely like the size and look of the place.
I don’t have too many complaints about this place; aside from the ones that have already been mentioned in previous reviews, but I do know that I will not be renewing my lease for a third year. — for various reasons.
— A previous tenant who moved out after living here two years had their rent raised by about $ 300. I checked out Deveraux Glen’s website and noticed that the layout I’m currently in has been listed for $ 300 more than what I’m paying now. Definitely NOT worth the extra cash.
— The master bedroom is way too tiny to be considered «master.»
— The parking is EXTREMELY hideous and the other cars parked along side the street are inconsiderate and take up far too much space for their compact sized car, making it absolutely ridiculous to fit the max amount of cars possible.
— To add to the parking: the over-​priced covered parking spaces are mostly vacant, yet they still want to charge an arm and a leg for them.
— To be a part of the rental staff does not require a personality of any kind. They’re all snobs.
