Oh man, I so wish this store was in San Francisco! Friendly & knowledgeable staff, and a good selection of recumbent bikes and trikes. There ought to be more stores with recumbents on the showroom floor!
It’s too bad that section of Hawthorne isn’t very nice to bike on, but thankfully there are nice quiet side streets all around for test rides.
Did I mention I wish this store was in San Francisco? Actually, probably a good thing or I’d rapidly run out of bike storage space ;-)

I’m still upset about how rudely they treated me 3 years ago. They were SO mean to me. I wish all the best for the owners if it will make them happier and less likely to be mean to people, but if that’s not a possibility, then I wish them the worst – the absolute worst. I’d still like an apology. I’ve never been treated so rudely maybe ever, by anyone, anywhere.

Coventry Cycle Works really is a FANTASTIC bike shop, particularly if you are looking for a recumbent bike/​trike. As far as I know, this is pretty much the only place in PDX to buy quality recumbents. I just picked up my brand new candy orange Catrike Villager from them this weekend, and I couldn’t be happier with both the trike, the service I received at Coventry.
It helps to do some research ahead of time, to get familiar with recumbents, but I found everybody at the shop to be extremely knowledgable and helpful. They let me test ride a trike ahead of time, I never felt like I was asking a ‘stupid question’, nor were the pushy in any way to try and upsell me extra equipment or accessories (although I certainly purchased them, on my own free will :)) They took the time to adjust my trike to my short self, and I could tell they genuinely wanted to make sure everything was set up how I wanted.
The trikes they sell there are top of the line, and while most aren’t the cheapest, I definitely feel like you are getting your money’s worth. They also provide bike service/​repair on both recumbent and normal road bikes, at what I think is a very reasonable price. And again, everybody seemed very knowledgeable, great looking shop, etc. Overall, it was a really nice experience, just being in there and getting more familiar with these awesome bikes before buying one for myself.
Thank you Coventry! Especially Adam, and the guy with the fantastic mustache (who’s name I can’t remember, sorry!); both were super helpful, laid back and definitely made my decision to buy a trike all the more informed and pleasant. You guys are great!

Them (Happy and friendly): «Sure do!»
Me: Asking all kinds of questions so I can do it myself while the guy changes out my pedals.
Them: Only too happy to answer politely, and totally without attitude.
Me: Buying something before I leave that I didn’t need per se, but wanted to because I’m feeling so grateful that there’s a bike store in Portland where you can ask «stupid» questions and not get 20-​somethings looking at you like you were kidding, clueless, or trying to harsh their buzz.
Them: Just getting a new customer.

I’m new to Oregon and am now (out of necessity) a full-​time recumbent trike rider. I only came into the store for replacement tires, but these guys were extremely helpful, and had a wealth of knowledge they were willing to share in a friendly and non-​intimidating way. I thought the atmosphere was relaxed and casual and this will now be the «go-​to» spot for me for any future recumbent needs/​issues/​repairs etc.

Imagine a Bicycle Shop where all the staff wore Tweed Jackets and work Comfortable Shoes and Smoked Pipes. The Saff Projects that Vibe without the pretention of Tweed. Really they are a decent bunch of guys that sell and service Folder & Recumbent Cycles to customers. There the type of shop sells you the right bike for your type of riding and once you buy from them they keep your bike on road and you keep some extra coin in your pocket along the way.

Fast, friendly and inexpensive. Repaired my fenders that were rubbing in 10 minutes for $ 5 service + $ 2 parts

I needed a Ventisit seat pad because of butt pain and they are the closest store that had the one I want in stock. I’m in SoCal so I called (although I’m always looking for an excuse to go to Portland, cuz I love the city) and spoke to the owner. She actually tried to disuade me from buying the seat pad saying I should try lowering the seat further first.
I did not interpret this as a reluctance to do business with me, but rather as a desire to make sure I would be happy with my purchase. Some of the negative reviews on this site could be interpreted in the same way.
In the end I insisted on making the purchase because I hate the way the foam pads gross-​up during a ride and the Ventisit addresses this too. I received the pad promptly via UPS together with a long hand-​written note on the best way to attach it to my seat which was much appreciated.
In the end I did drop the seat one more notch and attached the Ventisit on top of the 2″ foam pad I already had and went for a very pleasant 30 mile test ride. Two thumbs up for Coventry and Ventisit.
I much prefer the service I received from Coventry over my SoCal ‘bent dealer and I think I will be moving as much business to them as I can manage. I’m in the market for a headrest now and have already asked them if they can help.
Coventry — if you’re reading this — please give your website some TLC, it’s so retro it’ll be in a museum soon. But please keep up the good work at the store and over the phone.

Went in to test ride several bikes, Wanted to wait for another brand/​model to come in; waited weeks — called to check on its arrival several times, told them I was very interested in it –most likely wanted to purchase it. Went in the day after it was ready — test rode — said I’ll take it and was told I couldn’t. At first they said it was a Demo model (even though they told me over the phone it was one I could purchase), then they came up with some excuse about it not being the right fit for me. Yet it did fit me, and my sizing was in accord with the manufacturers specs. Very frustrating. I drove an hour each way to buy this bike and was told I couldn’t???

The only place in town to buy or service a recurrent trike. Being the only one means they get swamped at times — and sometimes are a little aloof — especially if you are not an insider in the ‘bent world.
I prefer to work with Adam. He is patient and knowledgeable. Even after stopping in a dozen times with tons of questions, he was patient and friendly every time. He listened to my wife and my riding needs and suggested a few trike that were the best matches for us — even if it meant buying one that was less expensive than those we came in to see.

Nothing good or bad about Coventry.
They deal almost exclusively in recumbent and folding bikes. They were very helpful in pointing me towards cycle shops that stock what I was looking for

When I was curious about the prospect of riding a recumbent cycle, I was directed towards Coventry, and thank god for that. These guys know their stuff. Sherman, the longtime owner, has always greeted me with a friendly demeanor, and his staff are knowledgable about all things bike related.
Best of all, with a driver’s license, I was able to test ride any bike in the shop. I actually rode some 7 bikes or so, over the course of 2 months (coming in basically once a week) before deciding on the model that suited me. The close proximity to Ladd’s Addition, an excellent neighborhood for bike riding, made my testing experience a joy — in fact I brought a couple friends on one occasion, and we all rode different bikes.
They have remained my most trusted bike shop, and despite living over 5 miles from them, I still return to their shop for any non-​emergency repairs.

I’ve been going to Conventry Cycles off-​and-​on since 2003. In fact, I bought a new Dahon folding bike from them last weekend. (They’re the only Dahon dealer in Portland, to my knowledge.) The salesperson was very helpful and took the time to let me know about all the options available and the various pros and cons of each model. He didn’t push me to buy the most expensive model, either.
Interestingly, they carry folding bikes by a Eugene-​based company. Unfortunately, they cost three times as much as Dahon bikes, because they’re not made in China.
While the staff isn’t particularly cheerful (they’re probably still too depressed by the George W. Bush administration, judging from their in-​store bulletin board) they do take care to get repair jobs done well.
They also carry an amazing array of recumbent bikes.

I got my Dahon folding bike here. They usually have a few models in stock for you to test ride.
Conventry mainly specializes in recumbant bikes. Great service and I got a couple free tune ups.
