Columbia Park

I’ve been going to this park since I was little. Glad to see that they put in a new play structure. The pool is decent but still makes your eyes burn a bit from the chemicals they use to combat all of the little kid pee lol.

One of my favorite parks in Portland. It feels like you are far away from the city. Great grass to relax and play with your dog, tennis courts, picnic tables, playground for the kids and baseball field. Great for running as well.

Columbia park is spacious and beautiful. This is a great place for photography, bikes, picnics and even birthday parties if your kids like the outdoors. You can come here to set up a pool party, the employees do the clean up after. They sell passes, some of the passes are not limited to this location. It can be used at Buckman pool in southeast and a couple others. I recommend not staying too late. :)

Beautiful trees with an indoor pool, softball field, walkway, play area and picnic tables! Park is clean and safe!

This park is super rad! Huge! Great areas for pretty much anything you would want to do in a park. I mean, come on. There are trees, so that’s rad, grass is also there, and there are play structures for kids and high adults. Also the outdoor free water activities area in the summer is hands down one of the best I’ve seen in Portland. They also have an indoor pool (but that’s a whole other review). Multiple tennis courts, multiple baseball fields, a soccer field. A great paved running/​walking lane that’s not quite 1 mile around the whole park. And then across the street there is the annex that’s even more awesomeness! Totes have bathrooms open randomly and a community center/​building I know nothing about. The park is wooded enough that you do feel like you’re in a forest and not in a neighborhood. Built in picnic and bbq areas too. Just go here it’s rad,

Columbia Park is a swell place. I have not discovered the indoor pool. That must be hiding somewhere. it’s off of Lombard and there’s another side road just to get to the full side of it.
The point here is on the silence. It is the muffled silence that is laced with birdsong. There are benches and an open field. It’s the type of space that you can bike right onto the paths there. I have only been there in the day. You could almost forget that you are in a city over there.

Nice indoor pool, decent tennis courts, paved walking paths, nice water feature for kids to play in on hot summer days, huge old growth firs, lots of squirrels, baseball/​soccer fields, and the standard playground equipment.
The bathrooms are dimly lit and pretty scary. I would NEVER allow a child to use these restrooms alone!
The park is great for daytime use, very family friendly and surprising pk very few drunks/​druggies like so many of the city parks around town. This is a nice, clean, safe park for daytime use.
After dark, it gets a little scary. Sketchy people «lurking» around, groups of teenagers hanging out drinking and smoking pot, I’ve seen a few very obvious drug deals go down near the street/​sidewalk.

Very pleasant park with big old beautiful trees that provide a good amount of shade. This park isn’t very big but it is perfect for picnics.

I love this park. Simply a wonderful walk around/​jog around park. This park is the greenest of greens. The air smells so good. I love stopping here on the way to Captured By Porches.

I love this park. Especially in the fall. If you have a chance to go in October/​November when the leaves change color, bring your camera. It’s just stunning.
Parks in Portland are fabulous in general but this is surely one of my favorites. It’s grand, as are the trees. I’ve only gone on walks/​runs through it but it looks like a perfect place to picnic in the summer.
Lately I’ve been brining my infant twins to the indoor pool during Family Swim time. They love it! The locker rooms and deck are kept nice and warm, so I’m not worried about the kids getting chilly out of the water. They say the water is kept at around 86 degrees… feels cooler, but the kids don’t seem to mind. They have toys and floating pads for the kids to play with and the staff seem really friendly. It feels like a community pool as even the people I meet there are neighborly. $ 4 for adults, $ 2.50 for kids, and free for babies.

I wish I lived near this park. The trees are gorgeous and the playground, swings and splash pad are just so darn cute. I will miss you Columbia Park!

Some of my earliest memories on planet Earth include Columbia Park. Endless Summertime barbeques, that most excellent music from the era (If I could choose one song to encapsulate it all, it’d be «Hot Fun in the Summertime» by Sly and the Family Stone… and a little later, «Tell me Something Good» by Rufus & Chaka Khan). Way back when nobody thought twice about the safety of lawn darts. Or croquette. Or baseball, for that matter. I caught some most excellent concussions @ Columbia Park, involving those and other activities. The chlorine in the indoor pool @ Columbia was so darn pungent, you risked frying out your eyeballs every time you jumped in — can I get a witness from anyone else who lived in that area back in the day?
I used to live in a little yellow house on N. Lombard, a half a block away from Columbia Park. Man that ‘s going WAY back, to the Vietnam War era. Thanks for all the memories, Columbia!

With the large amount of trees, easy access, and large picnicking area Columbia Park stands out. I see it as the border between St. Johns and the rest of Portland. Where all can have a nice time in the shade or play horseshoes in the annex. Lombard dissects the main park from the annex that connects to Willamette Blvd. and a great view of Swan Island/​the Willamette River. There’s also an indoor pool in the park as well as play equipment and dog areas.

It was 1994 and instead of leaving the school dance at 8:30pm like I said I would, I stayed for an extra dance with Raul, a boy that I had a mad crush on. At 8:32pm, my mother came unhinged, walked in to the school cafeteria where she smacked the shit out of me, called Raul a «PUTO!» and escorted me out of there via my aqua-​netted bangs.
Nothing in my life has been more humiliating and traumatic until the day I signed up for adult swimming lessons at the Columbia pool…
I needed to perfect my stroke in order to compete in a triathlon at the end of May so I decided to take the plunge and get some pointers from real instructors. For $ 50 for 10 ½ hour classes, I figured I had nothing to lose.
Slapping «your love» in to a sporty swimsuit in front of 14 year old instructors is an embarrassment in itself, nevertheless having them «school» you on how to breathe under water correctly.
I never knew that swimming with proper form would kick my ass so hard. But it has. Yet, after every week that has gone by, and after every humiliating, frustrating session I have endured, I have felt stronger and more confident every time. These young swimming instructors have been nothing but kind, patient, and if they want to laugh at my Beluga, non-​swimming ass, at least they never do it in my face.
Additionally the pool has open lap swim early in the morning and late at night for reasonable prices. The pool itself is nothing special, simple with several lanes, one small slide and an open area for kids. There are spacious changing rooms, showers, and storage areas. Right outside there’s a lovely park for picnicking or letting your dogs run.
While I may never be able to reconcile the embarrassment that comes with being slapped upside the head, in front of my entire 7^th grade class by a deranged round Mexican lady, (AKA my mother) The Columbia Pool has given me the opportunity to embrace the humiliation that comes with adult swimming lessons, and the chance to apply them toward kicking ass at my first tri.

I (very last minute) needed a place to hold a rehearsal dinner and both the parks reservation AND especially Deb from friends of columbia park were SO extremely helpful and accommodating!
The park is beautiful and the cottage, even more so. Thank you Deb and Columbia Park!

COOL PARK!
This is a very nice park that reminds me of Pier Park without the skate park or hills. There is a cool splash park for the little ones that has a palm tree and other things that shoot water in a fun manner. Lots of benches, a lit walkway, TONS of trees, baseball fields, playground equipment, and an indoor pool!
Reserve-​able lighted tennis courts, and reserve-​able picnic areas are a nice touch, and there are plenty of places to have an lunch at a moments notice. There is a southern annex of the park, which I did not visit today.
