This coffee shop has great seating, WiFi, a pleasant atmosphere, well-​designed coffee, and friendly staff.
Most notably, they have cold brew coffee on tap — including decaf cold brew — even during the winter. Finding cold brew decaf on tap is rare on good days, very rare on cold days, and unheard of on snowy days, yet they have cold brew decaf on tap at Coffee By Design here in Portland on a day with snow on the ground. Thank you, Coffee by Design!

Two words: TRIFECTA INFUSION. If you haven’t tried it, ask them about it. Seriously. It hasn’t really taken off yet because most folks don’t know about, but once you’ve had a trifecta brew, you’ll want a $ 600 home machine.
This location gets kudos today for being open during Winter Storm Goliath for those of us who think it’s just another day with precipitation.
And I have to give a shout out to Rebel Blend: I love you and I’ve missed you.

This place has a very cool granola modern feel to it where you can get work done. I recently went and had their pumpkin latte which was very delicious.
The only down fall is that they don’t have coffee by design’s flavor coffees, like my favorite Jamaican Me Crazy. Other than that I really enjoy this place, and I like I said there is a lot of tables to get work done at.

LOVE this location… but don’t all come here when I come!
Clean open spaces, good number of seating (both couches and «hard» chairs”), free-​wifi, delicious coffee, clean restrooms… I don’t think I could ask for more.
When all i need is a beverage, a quiet, comfortable space to work and think, this location is it!

Such a great coffee stop! The vibe is super chill and the nice open space is great for working or just hanging out. I also love how there is a bike rack outside. The baristas were super nice and friendly and made the experience go from 4 stars to 5!

Awesome! I can’t say enough about this place! Love the Diamond Street First Bloom! Friendly staff, great setting… sometimes gets a bit loud but hasn’t stopped me yet! My go to for a hot cuppa or cold brew.

Cold brew, O.A.T. Tarts and a little WiFi. Great spot to refuel to Two Door Cinema Club and some shelter from a sudden afternoon rain shower. The interior has soft seating, a bar and tables… something for everyone.

Good quality coffee and even got a tour of the roasting area. The setup and outdoor seating are a nice feature and it is definitely a great spot to grab a few cups of coffee and catch up with an old friend or pop open your laptop and get some work done.

what can I say. I search out establishments who carry this brand. Now that I only do decaf Im especially picky. You will not lose the great flavor even in a decaf. The owners are amazing people with great big generous hearts. It seems like its their goal to take care of people and the environment. Diamond street has a great vibe and is beautiful.

Coffee By Design offers a lot of variety of brews that can be poured using any and every method of brewing that I’m familiar with. This is an easy area to settle down in and hang out with a staff that is very welcoming and easy to talk to. My only gripe would be the air of pretentiousness that seems to permeate through the menu and out of the barista’s mouth.

The environment is active and positive. The staff is so friendly. I’ve always loved CBD products, local artwork and friendly faces!

Love this place. Great coffee, atmosphere, people… If we didn’t live in Brooklyn, we’d be regulars.

CBD has always been a favorite of ours. This newest location is definitely our favorite! Love the cozy, rustic atmosphere and everyone that works there is so nice. They have a selection of snacks for purchase that are locally made by The Holy Donut, Two Fat Cats, Standard Baking, etc. We sat at the bar today and while it was slow, one of the baristas started making coffee in the Chemex in front of us. He explained the process to us and how it was his preferred way to make coffee at home as well. After it was brewed, he ever-​so-​kindly offered us a taste as well! The coffee was amazing and we were so grateful for the opportunity to try it. We have been here many times since they opened and have always had a great experience. There is some parking right in front, but there are also PLENTY of spots on Diamond and Fox Streets. An awesome place that we will return to again and again!

The Diamond St location is bright and airy with rustic wooden touches and high ceilings. The seating is arranged around an island for the baristas so it keeps
seating minimal and intimate around the outskirts.
I was happy to see a great variety of baked goods (Holy Donut chocolate sea salt bliss!) the coffee menu was small and specialized– I tried the Guatemala pour over and it was citrus-​y and lovely, nice for a (very) cold day.
Overall it was a much needed break from the over-​crowded Portland coffee shops. CBD offered fast (and pleasant) service in a bright/​warm space. Just what I needed. Plus a donut– so, bonus.

I’ve ALWAYS been a fan of CBD, but I’m still surprised by this Coffee By Design location. Surprised that a place so far removed from downtown Portland can be as popular and as packed as it is every time I’ve visited. Surprised that they’ve done such an amazing job converting a big open warehouse space into an organic, wood-​filled, cozy, lived-​in coffee shop. And I’m surprised that — in a barista position that can traditionally be indifferent/​haughty/​snarky towards customers, that the ownership of CBD has been able to consistently (and seamlessly) hire friendly and warm staff across all of their locations. If anyone was going to make this location work, however, I’m not surprised that it was Coffee By Design.
This has become my new working-​remotely location when I feel like driving. As I mentioned, it’s VERY cozy with the option of tables, puffy chairs, or stools at the bar. Wood is everywhere, and you might feel like you’re hanging out in a mill store, or in some hippie store out in the country that sells fancy jams and homemade crafts.
The baked goods — most of them supplied by various local vendors around town — have been delightful! I recently ate one of the best cupcakes ever (a Valentine’s Day-​themed dark chocolate cake with raspberry frosting) and it was at least on par with the fancy cupcake bakeries you see popping up. Like their other cafes, you can find all of their coffee offerings on display, in addition to french presses, pour-​over supplies, or anything else that’s even remotely coffee-​related.
I hate singling anyone out, but this is definitely earned. A shoutout to the barista ‘Lizz’ who I watched interact with customers all day long while I was working on my laptop at the bar. I feel inclined to mention that she has an amazing natural rapport with every type of customer that came in. keep up the good work in bringing smiles to the customers’ faces!
Only (minor) strike is the parking. It can be a little Mad Max out in the parking lot, but I admit that it IS the dead of winter and that’s to be expected.

Always great freshly made coffee with friendly baristas. Gift shop, Holy Doughnut and other pastries plus if you have a moment, they are happy to walk you through the back where all the coffee magic happens. Get there early because parking is limited.

My favorite coffee shop. Beans are roasted on site, they’re intergalactic experts on all things coffee and super friendly. In addition to whole coffee beans for home consumption (which they also grond on request) and a fantastic ‘pour over’ cup for there or to go I find good gifts here.
The seating area is comfortable, wifi is strong, the music is excellent (Eliot Smith, Velvet Underground, etc.). There is off street parking. I find this a good place to sit and enjoy a high quality cup. They happily accommodate single bag orders for slower moving coffee varieties not stocked in the shelf. I like having a just in time supply chain of fresh roasted beans flowing towards our house. Buy a bag and get a token for a dollar off or a free brewed coffee. The best aspect? No snooty ‘tude. 5 stars. All. The. Way.
Pro tip: There is a whole ‘nother section of seats, including big leather chairs, behind the coffee bar.

I’ve always loved Coffee By Design. I might be a little biased because my sister worked there for a short time and she always made my drinks perfect, but I still love CBD. From what I know, they’re great to their employees, suppliers, and customers. They are an all around amazing company who does amazing things.
I’ve tried their iced coffe varying in flavors and some of their tea flavors. Both very delicious and not badly priced. The baristas are always very knowledgable and if you get a chance to buy the coffee by the bag, do it! Their shops always have a really great vibe with eccentric coffee flavors.
I’m not sure if they still make it, but I always used to get the s’mores coffee beans and take it home to make amazing coffee. And then an iced mocha in the mornings if I went in the shop!
If you need coffee on the go in the morning or to make for yourself at home, CBD is the way to go. Their newest location on Diamond is a great hangout spot as well.

I have been a fan of Coffee By Design for years, so I was beyond thrilled for them, my own caffeine addiction, and our community — which they are so steeped in and so appreciative to be a part of — when I heard they were expanding and opening a new micro roastery on Diamond St.
CBD has always been proud of the coffee they put out, and they have no reason not to be. And this location really showcases both that and their ability to custom roast/​blend in small quantities. I mean, who doesn’t love fresh coffee crafted to order? And who doesn’t love seeing that happen before their eyes? And — because of the giant glass windows looking into the roastery here — feeling like they’re a part of that process, too?
If you’re a fan of coffee — drip or pour over, basic black or espresso, etc. -, or a fan of Portland and her thriving Bayside neighborhood, or of coffeehouses that don’t charge exorbitant prices for the addition of soy or almond milk, or of local companies invested in environmental awareness and giving back to their city… why would you go anywhere else? There’s plenty of parking (just because you might not get one of the spots directly in front of the building, street parking in this area is abundant), there’s seats galore here with privacy to work or study, there’s seriously delicious pastries to tempt you away from any diet you might think you’re on, and I’m pretty sure the All-​Star CBD Team works here (meaning a consistent brew and quality customer service to boot).
Really, what’s not to love?
