I’ve eaten here twice now and I think it’s overpriced mediocrity. Bad value. Wouldn’t eat here again and would actively steer people away.

We were sad to hear that Cocotte was closing on November 22nd, and so we decided to come back one more time. Love the space and setting — very quaint combination of bistro and English pub. We have had some very good meals here previously, and we were counting on a good meal. Well, we should have let sleeping dogs lie. It feels like they have given up. First a couple of the items on the menu were not available, and we were there early on a Friday. The sous-vide duck was tough and difficult to swallow. The sear and the rendering of the fat on the duck breast was poorly done and inedible. The scallops were under cooked with a very poor sear. They were actually cold to the touch which was quite surprising. One of the scallops was raw like it never hit the pan. The one saving grace was the duck liver torchon with chutney which was very nice. If this is going to be the type of care for the food that they are going to continue — close now and leave people their memories of better meals that was a hallmark of Cocotte. Food was good, drinks were good. We sat at the bar near the kitchen and I could hear one of the chefs hacking and sneezing several times while I ate the meal they had prepared for me. Maybe send the sick person home? What was really lame though was the staff started talking badly about a customer right after she left… loud enough so we could hear. They were making fun of her in a rude way. not in a way that suggested she was a shitty tipper or something to that effect. Keep it classy Cocotte… your business atmosphere should match your $ 15 cheese plate.

Great meal at this lovely French-themed venue. Swank atmosphere. Enjoyed fried frogs legs & fois grass as starters, along with local Oregon oysters. Oysters weren’t large but quite tasty. I had the salmon sous vide which was fantastic. Potato sides were great as were other things on my plate which I didn’t recognise in the dark. Owners are lovely and work the kitchen & bar. Must go back.

My boyfriend & I had a weekend getaway to Portland and wanted to do one night where we had a great meal. We wanted to get dressed up, which is hard to find in the PNW since everyone seems to want to keep it casual all the time. We were definitely the most dressed at Cucotte but it’s okay because the food was worth dressing up for. The restaurant itself is not too small but intimate enough where you definitely would want a reservation, and be prepared to drive up the street or in a Hawthorne neighborhood to find a place to park. The lighting was low and comfortable, we sat in the back where there were a couple 2 tops around a larger table. Our server was friendly and prompt. Regarding our meal: we started by sharing some oysters and the escargot as well as a few drinks. Our mixed drinks were really great– my bf tends to judge a place based on how good their Old-Fashioned is and said that it was very good. I love escargot and thoroughly enjoyed watching my bf nervously try it for the first time and enjoy it! The oysters had a nice mignonette as well and were nice and fresh. My boyfriend got the rare duck breast and I got the homemmade pasta with lamb’s neck, chantrelles and cabbage. Holy cow, first bite for both of us was so magical– one of those moments where you close your eyes because it was so good. The duck breast had a nice char to to the outside where the inside was rare like steak and absolutely delicious and tender– and I don’t like steak! My pasta tasted great, the lamb was so tender and tasty… we both practically licked our plates clean. Overall MUST go in Portland– absolutely delicious and good service!

Such a romantic experience in a beautiful quaint restaurant! Two thumbs up! Tonight was the first night that my husband and I dined at this restaurant and we had an amazing experience! Our server Emmett was extremely helpful and explained the menu to us, refilled our wine/water multiple times, had our bread/apps/main course out at the perfect time and also boxed our leftovers for us in the back promptly once he saw we had finished! We had bread and butter, escargot, frog legs, wine, pumpkin goat cheese tartine, and duck with potatoes and cabbage. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection! My personal favorite was the escargot, but I highly recommend everything that we ordered and also our server! Wonderfully romantic experience!

What a wonderful place! We had drinks and food in the evening at the comfortable bar in this warm, inviting lovely bit of a semi-French bistro. I say ‘semi’ because the staff is far more friendly, helpful and polite than waiters and bartenders are reputed to be in France. Since we had just come from Expatriat around the corner(enjoying drinks and appetizers there) I only had the frogs legs and the escargot at Cocotte. Both were as perfect as I could wish for. And my Sazerac was superb. I love the food, the service, the interior design, and the overall feel of the place. The people here are cool. And the location has to be one of the best in town, with so many other excellent places just steps away. (How can I arrange to move here…) This one is now on my short list of favorites, and I will definitely be back to enjoy it again and again. Thank you, Cocotte for a great experience!

Nice place, good service, somewhat disappointing food though. I’d avoid the halibut but get the beet salad.

We happened into Cocette kind of spur of the moment, which was fortuitous as they suddenly had a two top. This is a very authentic feeling French bistro-style restaurant. The staff is bustling, the décor and art direction is spot on and the food is appropriate to the vibe. We also lucked into finding the restaurant on National Snail Day. It turns out the chef was on local TV that morning discussing variations on escargot preparation and Cocette had a special Snail Flight(which is not a Helicidae army in retreat) on the menu. As pescatarians, we were unable to try the pâté due to pork, but we could try the others due to our inability to identify actual sea creatures. Yum and yummer. The seafood entries we less imaginative, thus the four stars instead of three, but were still far from disappointing. To be honest, the warm, crusty bread and rosemary butter ill-mannerdly swapped through the various sauces, turned out to be the MVP for me.

EXCELLENTEXCELLENTSERVICE! Food: 1) Complimentary bread: Bread at its finest! I don’t know where they get this bread, but it is spot on! Hard exterior, soft and chewy interior, this is the epitome of a baguette! 2) Chicken Liver Mousse: my favorite dish of the night! So creamy, rich, smooth and flavorful! Paired with the spread of mustard, aioli, raisins and picked veggie, it was amazing! The combination of the mousse with the bread was beyond words! Great job Cocotte! 3) Beet salad: aesthetically pleasing, but taste was overshadowed by the chicken liver mousse. Not bad as a stand alone salad but doesn’t even compare when served at the same time as the mousse. 4) Fish soup: a tomato based soup cooked with various seafood and fish. It’s light and refreshing with a subtle spicy kick. I really like how all the flavors came together. Excellent choice of seafood they decided to use to make the soup. Delicious! 5) Leg of lamb with polenta: slightly chard exterior with tender interior. Texture of the tender lamb was pretty good, the taste didn’t leave much of an impact on me. Overall, the presentation was nice, but I wasn’t super impressed with the lack of flavor. 6) Roasted chicken with brown rice and egg: When you break the poached egg and the yolk seeps onto the brown rice, the outcome is so palate pleasing! There are two pieces of chicken served, one is dark meat and one is white meat. I have a bias for white meat, so I enjoyed that piece more, but both were very tasty. White meat is hard to make moist and tender, but Cocotte nailed it! Service: Superb service! Very welcoming and friendly! First star of excellence for service: We were first seated in the middle of the restaurant and when a window seat opened up, I requested to move over. At first, the waiter said that window seat was reserved, but later on, he came over and told us that he checked and it wasn’t reserved until 8, since it was only 6ish, he allowed us to move over. They helped us move our food and drinks over with smiling faces. Second star of excellence for service(prob deserve 10 stars for this): We ordered the leg of lamb and they actually got our order wrong and gave us the chicken. When we pointed that out, they went ABOVEANDBEYOND to fix the problem, not only did they let us have the chicken dish, they also made us the leg of lamb AND they offered to TAKECAREOFTHEENTIREBILL. This is the most generous, sincere and considerate gesture any restaurant has ever offered me! We ended up insisting to pay for the bill and they still comp’ed us the chicken and the leg of lamb entrée, which is again, already very generous of them since we didn’t ask for any type of compensation or complain. Well done Cocotte, very impressive Service! Ambiance: Very cute, cozy restaurant. There are these cute cut up windows spanning two sides of the restaurant, which really provides great lighting and also a great for people watching. However, I have to comment that the chairs are very uncomfortable. The backing ends at a very awkward place on your back, so I found that I had to just sit up with no back support for the whole dinner. Price: Very reasonable prices for the quantity and quality of food. I think our bill would have come out to be around $ 60 if they had let us paid, which is not bad for all the delicious food and service we received. Overall: Honestly, food would have probably been around 4 stars but the service is really beyond the 5 star experience. I would definitely come back and you should definitely try this place too! Very worth while experience!

The happy hour Menu!!! Wow, we didn’t know about it, just walked in, but what a pleasant surprise!!! They even do dollar oysters certain days of the week! Everything was tasty and delightful. I never liked liver — but the chicken liver mousse was exceptional and only $ 5 on the Happy Hour Menu?! Crazy deal for the technique and skill involved. Freedom was our bartender/server. She was lovely– and full of interesting information. We wish we had more time to chat with her, but will definitely be back again. Definitely on e of the best restaurants in the Alberta area!!!

All I remember is going here for happy hour upon my return from the terrible Southwest US and loving the shit out of a sweet corn polenta dish — which I hope they have and/or bring back in time for my next visit. It was summer, it was beautiful outside and the food was both delicious and reasonably priced. We’re going to go again. Some day.

Where else in town can you try frog legs? This little bistro has a lovely atmosphere and a delicious assortment of French food. While it turns out that frog legs taste like unseasoned cod, the rest of the food(rabbit) was delightful and creative.

I think the first time I ever went here, I cried. First amazing thing was how it looked from the outside– beautiful black wood and window panes. It was December so there were adorable wreaths with red ribbons. After getting my excellent brandy sidecar, I looked out the window and it was snowing! Even when it wasn’t magically snowing, this place has always been amazing. I went here for my three year anniversary and the food was intoxicatingly good. They have a great, informed wine list, perfect cocktails, and a gorgeous menu. I would eat here every day if I had the money. The servers are always kind, prompt, and sweet– I think I have a big crush on one but I forgot who or when. I haven’t met Kat, the chef, but her food is always impeccable and creative(and she has a cool Instagram). I’ll be back here as soon as I can get one of my parentsto fly up from Texas and take me here.

I had their PDX dining month menu which consisted of pâté, escargots and muscles. Each course was fantastic. The escargots were a nice deviation from a more traditional presentation and the other two dishes were right on the money. The only downside was that all three of these dishes require bread, so I ended up eating a lot of it. I like the décor too. It was different from the old St. Jacks, but reminded me of it anyhow. And, frankly the food was better than my last St. Jacks meal.

This month happens to be Portlands resturant month and i highly recommend the 3 course meal they have for $ 29 everything was excellent. Fine dinning at a very affordable price! I loved my experience here and the staff here is very friendly which is always an added bonus. The food is just divine! the liver mousse is definitely out of this world amazing! They also offer good craft beer in a bottle if thats your thing its my thing. They have a list of wines and cocktails i didnt get to try but other people around me seem to enjoy it. i really also enjoyed the ambiance here. i walked in around almost 10pm and took at seat at the bar, which is a little small. i normally dont like small places but i really enjoyed the atmosphere here because even though it was a small space there were a lot of windows that really opened the place up.

I never get tired of the food or ambience here. Whether I need a place for a snack and a glass of wine, happy hour with girlfriends, or a romantic dinner this place has it all. The restaurant looks just like it has been plucked out of Paris. There is a gorgeous bar to sit at(a little un-Pariesian…but oh well) with an attentive bar tender that can recommend a great wine or craft cocktail. They also have a back room that can be rented for private dining events. They have easily the best chicken liver pâté’ I’ve ever tasted. I will sometimes go in just for that. All the other food offerings are great as well. The menu is interesting, fresh, and adventurous. There is always something that sounds good and doesn’t disappoint when served. If you aren’t sure-come in and give happy hour a try and then make proper dinner reservations. You won’t be disappointed.

My husband and I went here to celebrate a job promotion. I was excited based on the reviews I read. I’ll start with the most positive: our server was very nice and helpful regarding recommendations, etc. though the service was painfully slow at times. The pacing was off somehow. We tried 3 different cocktails and those were also delicious. The food just wasn’t that impressive. It was good, but more heavy handed than refined. We had the chicken liver mousse and the chicken dish, two of their most recommended dishes. The flavor was good but I wasn’t blown away. My biggest complaint, however, was an issue of comfort. It was very hot in the dining room. It was a hot day today, but ideally there should be air conditioning. It’s a little weird to spend over $ 100 on a dinner for two and walk out with sweat pouring down my back. Yuck.

So my boyfriend booked this place specifically because the online menu said that they had foie gras, and I had never had foie gras before. Well it turns out that they did not update their online menu, so when we got there for our reservation we saw that foie was no longer there! That sucked because I was excited to try foie… but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. So I took off a star for that, because I really wish that they had updated what they were offering. Other than that mishap, our dining experience at Cocotte was excellent! I would definitely recommend the chicken liver mousse, it’s rich and creamy and all the things a chicken liver mousse should be. We also got the duck confite gratine… which was also just really really good. Lastly we split the squid salad which was tasty and easy to eat. If you don’t normally eat squid this is a good dish to order to see how good it can be. Overall, great meal and great service. Oh and the drinks are good too! If you like French cuisine, this is a delicious spot and it won’t break the bank.
