I just don’t get it. Was back in this place this morning, it’s still dark and unwelcoming. And to top it off, the 2% latte I was served was about the worst cup I’ve had poured for me in a long time. Not even a hint of foam, the barista didn’t even try to foam the pitcher. I just don’t get why these people don’t /care/about their product. I’d previously called them«unenthusiastic», today I’ll add«uninspired». They just don’t seem to care.

Since I am a mere 11 floors up from them, its not too shabby. But, honestly… not amazing. Consistency is lacking… some baristas don’t fill the cup fully… some don’t know how to make adequate foam… and some are just damn stubborn about the punch cards. Its a funny place… but it works… for the moment.

Went to get coffee since they are in the building where I work. First impression was that the place looked messy and dark. Paint is chipped in several areas. Behind he counter was messy, disorganized. The same goes for the bussing area where the fixings were. Coffee was too strong for my taste. Will probably not go back.

They get 1 star due to a lack of effort. There are hundreds of people working in this building and around the area and this coffee shop barely stocks enough food to last through 11am. Its not good food either. The cafeteria in the building is terrible too so there is no where for anyone to get a quick bit to eat. I work here and we would all rather walk down the street Starbucks and JCafe instead of this place. Its sad how they really don’t try at all to provide decent service and food/drinks for their very captive audience.

I have to say that I have really grown to like this place. The coffee is good(and strong), the service is quick and they have a great selection of pastries and breakfast foods.

Coffee is mediocre at best, and the service is generally sub par. I don’t require a lot as a customer — a polite ‘good morning’ or ‘hello’ will do. Many of the employees here, and one in particular, can’t seem to use their words at all though. I understand tired — I get up early too. What I don’t understand is how an employee that consistently treats paying, tipping customers as a nuisance continues to keep a job. Rude, rude, rude service. I’ll walk the extra block and pay the extra money for Starbucks.

This little coffee shop has decent coffee and pleasant, prompt service. There really isn’t any furniture to relax or work at — besides a narrow bar along the windows. It is really setup to serve the local population of corporate drones. What stands out at this shop are their excellent pastries. They have delicious fresh bagels, cookies, brownies, croissants and muffins every morning. Myself, I really enjoy their blueberry bran muffins with my espresso — helps to keep a fellow like myself nice and healthy!

I feel the need to update my review because I now stop by this City Coffee(location, location, location) basically daily and to post the fact that they have some outstanding bagels and pastries from local Portland bakeries. If my mind wasn’t on my cheese and jalepeno bagel from Gabriel’s, I would have remembered the other 2 bakeries they told me.

Stopped in after a delivery while I was working. I hadn’t had breakfast yet, was a little low on energy, so coffee and a breakfast-type pastry sounded like a supreme idea. I got a White Chocolate Mocha and one of their«special» brownies. The brownie was definitely special; it was rich and had a little layer of marshmallow or something else of a sweet, white, and gooey variety, with a chocolate ganache with white chocolate swirl on top. It was so rich, however, that I almost couldn’t finish it. The mocha was pretty blah though. It was water-y and didn’t have very strong flavors. I’m sure it’s convenient for the office workers nearby, but other than that there is nothing really to say.

I’ve been here many times as it’s literally downstairs from where I work. It used to be a Seattle’s Best and I hardly ever went there in 5 years, but a few little things happened in the past few months and I am now becoming a regular. Oh my gosh… did I really just say that?! They have a frozen Chai tea drink that may not be quite as good as Starbucks’ version, but it’s a fatty fru-fru drink that will allow you to gain weight with sweet pleasure all the same. My current favorite here is their Vanilla Latte. It is even made more delicious with the addition of a Hazelnut scone that is SCRUMPTIOUS. I first had this delightful pastry at a training our company held and I have bought many since then. Oh… they do have a Coffee Card that they punch. 12 punches and you get a free(small?) coffee. Come on Monday or Tuesday and you get your card double punched! One other food item I have tried(I don’t think they sell anything bad) is their Jalapeño and Cheese bagel. This seemed like a strange order at the time, but I absolutely loved it. If you happen to be around the Lloyd Center, just walk down 9th Ave. towards Holladay. Make a right and go a little past 2 blocks. City Coffee will be attached to the Liberty Centre, on the left side. If you happen to be on the MAX, exit the NE7th Ave. exit and cross diagonally. You’ll be 100 steps from the door.
