Chef’s Week PDX

I was so looking forward to Chef’s Week PDX and their collaboration of great chefs from all over Portland.
When I saw the event announcement, I emailed to ask if any of the events could accommodate a vegetarian. Their emailed reply?
«The Hearth & Turf dinner at Ava Gene’s on February 6^th has a vegetarian option! We’d love to have you there! Tickets are going fast!»
So we bought tickets. After I bought my tickets, I emailed them again– «Thank you. I ordered tickets; do you need advance notification for the vegetarian option?»
No reply.
So, on Feb. 6, off we went to Ava Gene’s for the $ 75/​person dinner, where 6 local chefs were preparing dishes. My husband got there before me; he said they had a note that I was a vegetarian. A server came up to the table when I arrived and said «You don’t eat meat, poultry or fish, right?» I affirmed.
But then I noticed there was only one menu. Excluding the desserts, 9 of the 12 dishes on the menu contained meat, fish or poultry.
We did not get the chance to talk with a server again about this until the first course was delivered. It was indeed four meats; the only vegetarian item was bread and butter. When I asked the server about the vegetarian option, I was told I could eat the Brussels sprouts that were served with the main course. The server was not familiar with the fact that the event had been advertised as vegetarian-​friendly.
Shortly after this, the manager came to our table, and we discussed the issue. He also seemed quite unaware that the event had been advertised as vegetarian-​friendly, but he did state he’d do his best to make amends. He did indeed ensure that I had something to eat for the remainder of the courses. The issue was this was that, with the exception of the vegetable course that was modified by the removal of the fish, what I was served was not prepared by the chefs who made this event Chef’s Week– they were items from Ava Genes menu (ravioli, greens, polenta.) Ava Genes is a fine restaurant, but what I had paid for and expected was the same Chef’s Week experience that others enjoyed. It was obvious that there had been no planning or preparation at all ahead of time for any guests who actually chose the vegetarian option.
I emailed Chef’s Week twice about this fiasco, on the 7^th and again on the 14^th. The second time, I asked for at least the courtesy of a reply. There was none.
I have enjoyed other events (such as Dishcrawl) which have advertised vegetarian options and actually followed through with them. I also have no problem at all with events that don’t offer a vegetarian option– I would not attend one and expect to be catered to. But when an event specifically states that vegetarians are welcome (and which asks them to pay the same price that the meat-​eaters pay), I would expect that there would actually be a vegetarian option!
