Starting in Vermont, Carole Murphy moved her life and her studio to Portland, Oregon in 2001. Beginning in bronze figurative realism, Carole’s work has stretched and morphed into organic, sensuous, playful, expressions of the essence of things rather than the visual reality of them.

Carole Murphy teaches sculpture classes and is a fabulous teacher. She gathers all sorts of creative and fun people and teaches them at the level they need. Whether it is how to use tools and materials or how to design the curve of a body just so, she is talented, knowledgeable and generous. Definitely a fun class no matter what level you are at…

Carole’s classes are all hands-​on. We each work on our own sculpture, Carole is very attentive. She is always there to help when I am ready for help, but lets me struggle to figure out how to get what I want out of my piece. I’m learning subtractive sculpture by doing it with the best tutor one could ask for. She is kind, knowledgeable and intuitive. I come away exhausted but satisfied because I’m am now a sculptor, thanks to Carole.
