Bradshaw’s was started by Gene Bradshaw in 1938. Gene Bradshaw was a visionary and set the standard for auto repair and transmission rebuilds in the Portland area. News traveled fast that Bradshaw’s was the place to take your car for maintenance, repairs, and good advice. Gene’s vision was to create a neighborhood shop where local residents could take their cars and know they were in good hands.

Bradshaw’s is constantly updating our equipment, tools, and educating our technician’s on the newest car technologies. Bradshaw’s still operates under the same code of ethics that made us the most trusted shop in Portland. «Fix what the customer brought the car in for first and foremost and there is no fix like the right fix.» Such a simple way of doing business brings our customers back time and time again. Bradshaw’s is a full service auto repair shop located in SE Portland.

You can trust that after being in business for 75 years we know a thing or two about working on your car. We work on most domestic and foreign vehicles and if we don’t work on your vehicle we will provide you the name of a shop in town that does.

Bradshaw’s specializes in using OE parts when available, quick turn around times, brakes, oil changes, electrical diagnostic, check engine light, tune ups, timing belts, factory maintenance, suspension, alignments, A/​C, heating, cooling system, transmission, and tires. All backed by a 2 year, 24,000 mile nationwide warranty.

Since 1938 Bradshaw’s vision was to create a neighborhood shop where local residents and businesses could take their cars and know they are in good hands. An honest auto repair shop that would listen to customers and «Fix what the customer brought their vehicle in first and foremost the first time.»

As a pioneer in the auto repair business Bradshaw’s quickly became a pioneer in the transmission repair business also. In 1958 Bradshaw’s expanded adding a transmission rebuilding center. Then in 1981 the original building needed to be expanded again to accommodate the automotive and transmission departments. In 1998 Bradshaw’s expanded and moved the transmission department to the corner of SE 12th and Belmont.

You can still find Bradshaw’s located on the same corner doing business with the same values that made Bradshaw’s the most trusted shop in Portland.

I bought my car from a buddy who used this garage anytime the car needed service. 2005 Honda Civic EX
I’ve been here several times with just one hiccup. I mention it just to say that they generously resolved my problem and I left happy. Often times we don’t know what a business is like until you need them to explain or fix a situation. They’ve proved to me that they’re a good garage with really decent folks for employees. I will continue using this garage. I know of a cheaper garage walking distant from my place but I leave Bradshaw’s understanding the need for recommended repairs. Without my asking they have offered to breakdown and prioritize the work needed on my car.

Pat immediately denied service over the phone without explanation. Curt = rude.
Also, the service requested is clearly listed on their website with pricing and was requested using their online form. No bad vibes from this side were sent their way.
FYI: If they start saying «Okay, Sir?» like you are a five-​year-​old, that’s code for «I’m hanging up regardless of what you say in the next three seconds.»

Thanks for your prompt response. It is certainly more informative and inquisitive than Pat’s response over the phone. I believe Pat has all of the answers you are looking for. Rather than searching databases I recommend asking Pat who refused any of my questions and refused service without explanation. If Pat’s curt and discourteous response to this family was singular, it should not be too hard to figure out. However, if Pat is discourteous and short (very short) to many people and as a result, it isn’t clear exactly which vehicle inquiry came from this family, then I could certainly see your difficulty in relying on databases. I will happily forward the relevant information and/​or give you a call directly if Pat is unable to satisfy the search on your end.

I short, at our company we where 100% sure that our delivery van was in need of a new transmission ($ 2500-​$ 3000) after searching thru Unilocal I found Bradshaw’s auto center, read the reviews and decided to send the van expecting a $ 3000 bill. To my surprise I got a call from the shop explaining that it wasn’t the transmission and that the fix would cost $ 600 – 700.,. We are so grateful and happy to see that honesty is a value that Bradshaw’s auto center takes seriously… From now on all our vehicles will go here without exception. Thank you.

I wish I could give them 10 stars. This could be one of those long horror stories about a car gone terribly wrong, because it is, but I’ll try to keep it short.
We had a car that had been sitting for awhile and we decided to pull it out and fix it up so a friend that was visiting from overseas would have transportation. There was one of those «Hey, I know a guy» conversations and we thought «How bad could it be?» The car isn’t worth that much and we aren’t attached to it so we said «OK». We gave the guy some money, bought a bunch of parts and waited.
Wow. 34 days later, the guy still had the car. There were parts everywhere, $ 1,400 gone and no end in sight. I finally called Bradshaw and said «HELP!» It was an embarrassing phone call and they were super nice. I had the car towed over and they went through it.
After the initial shock of the estimate, they explained to me what had happened to the car and the person who had been working on it did many things to make the situation worst. What they said matched what he had told me that he was having problems with so I knew that it was accurate.
As Bradshaw dug into the car, they found other things that were wrong but they knew the position I was in. They knew I had already spent money and that the car wasn’t worth very much so they did everything possible to keep the cost down.
The car was at Bradshaw for 10 days and they called me every step of the way to update me on what they found and what was going on. They even ordered a part that was not in the original estimate and still kept it very close to what the original quote was.
The car runs great now. They fixed things the first guy said were ‘not fixable’ and some of the things he wanted to fix had nothing to do with what was actually wrong with the car. I am super impressed with Bradshaw and grateful that they saved this car. And really happy that they kept the estimate in the ballpark of what they promised. Great guys. Very professional and they keep their word. I would trust them with any car.

Long story short… like most people I do not like auto shops. I’ve been pressured and pushed and made feel stupid more times than I can count and had my fair share of car troubles over the last ten years. Not anymore!
This is probably my fourth or fifth time taking my car to Bradshaw’s. I will never go anywhere else. My boyfriend and has family recommended them to me as they have been going for years. This is by far the best it gets.
Not only are they friendly, they’re genuine. I’m not afraid to ask questions. They call me before they do any work and they are super flexible. If I can’t afford all the work that needs to be done (which is often times) they talk me through what is urgent and give me timelines so I can figure the rest out.
I promise, they’re worth the trip. Thanks to the entire staff for everything you do, I hope you know how much it means to have peace of mind!

I started using Bradshaw’s in about 1982 for a company car and soon thereafter on my family vehicles. I think my 30 plus years as a satisfied customer says a lot about their service and my satisfaction. A couple of years ago I had a problem and because of proprietary reasons I had to take my car to a Buick dealer. They did terrible work, had to take the car back a couple of times and eventually paid Bradshaw’s to fix one thing the Buick dealer just couldn’t get right. I am so glad to have had Bradshaw’s recomended to me back in 1982.

After leaving my last review, I was contacted by the manager of Bradshaws. She left me both a voicemail and a message on Unilocal asking me to call her to explain my frustrations. She heard me out, apologized for my frustrations and refunded me the diagnostic fee. I am very impressed with the prompt action she took to address my concerns. I have since taken my car to another service center, and she asked me to keep her apprised of what my cars problem is so they can use this information in the future. I will bring my car back to Bradshaws after this and give them another chance. She has asked me to continue to give her feedback about my experiences to make sure all is running smoothly.

These guys are great. On my way to an appointment across town my car started, er… smoking. Steaming? I don’t know but it was cause for a good deal of concern. It started on the way on & off & stopped when I got there so I went to my appointment & decided to try to deal with it afterwards. As I was trying how to figure out how to pop the hood (it’s a used car new to me) two of the Bradshaw guys were coming from lunch & stopped to see if I needed help. Awesome. Sure it is their livelihood but it was so nice that when I was really in a pickle they were there to help. No pressure, no sales, just friendly help. I did end up taking it to their service center & they had me in a new water pump in the same day. Everyone I encountered was a sweetheart. This service center is on the opposite side of town from me but I would take it back to Bradshaw’s in a heartbeat.

I had some transmission work done at their 12th and Belmont location over two years ago. I had a little issue with something they had taken apart to get to the transmission. Even though it was WAAAAY after the warranty had expired Bradshaw’s stood by their work nonetheless. Problem fixed. No charge.

This will be short, since my knowledge of automative repair is minimal.
I took my 2007 Subaru Forester here after the shifter was stuck in park and would not shift to reverse, drive, etc. After googling, «What the hell is wrong with my car» and visiting Autozone to get the «Check Engine» light read, I had a rough idea that it might be a faulty break sensor.
I called Bradshaw to see when the best time to drop off my car. They were able to give me an estimate on how long it would take to diagnose the problem. After dropping it off, they got back to me in less time than I expected, fixed the problem and my car was done the following morning before I was even out of bed. I also liked that they told me about the part they were using. Apparently, they have had problems with the generic part needed, so they got it from the Subaru dealer directly. Fine by me.
Cost me $ 200 with labor. Not the cheapest, but I’m a single gal in a new city trying to get my car repaired. Everything seemed A-​OK to me. Very good customer service and I’ll plan on using Bradshaw’s again in the future.

Would check more stars if there were more. I have taken my cars to Bradshaws for years. I recently had an issue and had a friend that told me to take it to another friend who owns a shop. He looked over the issue I was having with my Power Steering and quoted me 900 to 1200 dollars. I said thanks and moved on. I ten decided to take it to Bradshaws (if Im dumping 1200.00 I wanted it to be where I know for sure it will get done). Thinking we are going to be without the car for days, I was shocked to get a call three hours after the tow truck dropped it off to tell me it was done, Then the shock of all shocks, the total for the repair was $ 190 bucks. I was speechless, and grateful beyond belief. Thank you Bradshaw’s for being the best of the best. I won’t let any other shop put air in my tires, these guys are «MY MECHANIC’s and they should be yours!

having a car again after 20 years, I was a little freaked about getting work done on it. I was told by different family members to watch out for mechanics that take advantage of you — not here at Bradshaw’s. They were up front with what I needed work on as well as able to work around my schedule or service my car while i was out of town.

Going to the mechanic is like going to the dentist– the prospect of going is never pleasant, but a good practitioner will make it as painless as possible, explain what they’re doing and why, and help you prevent bigger problems in the future without unnecessarily draining your bank account.
I have yet to find a dentist that fulfills all of these criteria, but Bradshaw’s totally fits the bill when it comes to care care. I ended up there on a fluke when a dire car emergency (see: broken bearing gets into transmission) forced me to pull into the closest car place. On my birthday. Ugh. Being completely car clueless and a little type A, I was of course totally freaked out about not knowing what was going on or how much it was going to cost me. Within 15 minutes, the staff had my car up in the air, gave me a promise to have a diagnosis, and I was on my way to work. Without going into additional detail (it was a REALLY crummy day), I made it there JUST as they were closing, only to find that there was no fixing the car until the new transmission (that they found used at a great price) arrived the next day. I had no ride home, the car rental places were closed, and I was sans phone. The day was totally rescued, though– the manager arranged a rental from a local dealership at a super reduced rate and took the time to give me a ride there. My car was fixed within the next 24 hours, given a nice wash, and I’ve taken the blue beast there any time I’ve needed help since.

Like most people, I’m at the mercy of the mechanic when it comes to auto repairs. That’s why I want to feel like I’m doing business with an establishment that has integrity. That’s exactly the feeling I got when I recently took my Subaru in to Bradshaw’s for new brakes. I expected to spend hundreds on new brakes that day. Instead, the mechanic told me that my vehicle still had plenty of life left in the pads and that I didn’t need to service it. Preventing me from spending a bundle of cash on unnecessary maintenance is a solid in my book.
So far, I’ve only had minor maintenance completed here, but it’s inevitable that my car will need some kind of major service in the future. When it does, I’ll definitely be bringing it back to this business.
