Beckel Canvas Products

Terrific customer service from Michelle-​needed a bag before my trip and was worried about the production time and shipping (to Toronto). I was assured that everything would be done right and on time, and yep, definitely was. The War Bag is sturdier than I was expecting and hopefully will be my go-​to carry-​on bag for years to come. Great experience with Beckel!

One interesting aspect of Portland is it’s role as a design town. There’s a lot of creative talent here, and each time I come up I’m impressed with some new bag, leather, hardware, or other product that has been re-​imagined right here in the Rose City.
On the other hand, Beckel Canvas is solid old school. Its canvas products range from Wall tents to sturdy field bags to accessories for enjoying the great outdoors. You can’t get a better practical canvas bag for the money. And to quote the Manager at a «hip» Portland products store that I recently visited: «Kathy (2^nd Generation Beckel) is a real sweetheart».
I first ordered a bag (via snail mail) and was super impressed by it’s sturdiness, good looks, and practicality. I then made it a point to stop in at their Clinton Street «Outpost» during a recent visit to Portland. This is a working shop, with little need for showroom aesthetics and plenty of emphasis on sewing up lots of cool stuff.
One small disappointment was Kathy’s learned determination that my beloved Land’s End canvas briefcase (purchased in 1987 and used continuously ever since) was now beyond repair. I had high hopes, but sometimes even good canvas meets its maker. At the same time, I’m sure that if I’m still around in those same 26 years, that my Beckel bag will still be at my side and like me, going strong.

If you need a no frills carry on bag this is the place to go to. I received the war bag as a gift and have used it already on multiple trips. Beckel products are awesome and tough, did I mention they also look good. My favorite part it’s made here in the USA. Great products

We have two insane (but luckily, also insanely cute) dogs, for which we made the mistake of buying a soft-​sided crate. They chewed huge holes in the top and sides, and after despairing about buying a new $ 200 crate that they’d surely ruin again, or buy an ugly, cold and forbidding wire crate, we found Beckel.
This place is the mecca of canvas goods – they have pretty much anything you could ever want made out of canvas there – they make those huge 3 room «glamping» tents for fancy resorts in Montana, they make monogrammed fancy canvas totes, heck, they even make aprons! They fixed our crate and double-​triple reinforced the seams so the dogs surely could not chew through that toughness, and did it all for $ 35.
My husband and I want to start a group about things you’d only see in Portland – and this place feels like it could make the list. In my relatively uninformed knowledge of canvas product stores, this place was really friendly, really cool, and really affordable. And totally random, but in a really good, only in Portland kinda way. Beckel, I’m a fan.
