Bank of the West

I have been a long time Bank of the west customer and travel and have found the bank as a whole outstanding. This is my closest branch when in Portland now and for 3.5 years have never had a reason to complain.
I was prompted to review when I saw all the negative reviews where folks expect the bank to allow bad policy and then want to complain. I would refer everyone I know to the bank if asked for their good performance for many many years.

Avoid by any means, or take a snack with you while waiting to be found in their «computer system».

I walked into this branch a month ago and closed my account. Today, I received a statement indicating that I have a balance (accrued interest), so I called the customer service line and found out that the account was still open. Because of this, I now probably owe a minimum balance fee. I asked them to close my account today and was told that it would take 5 days to do so. I have to say, this bank is either incompetent or they’re running some kind of scam to bill people minimum balance fees.

Horrible customer service, or should I say NONE. I went to cash a business check that was drawn on their bank and was told there was a $ 5 fee unless you have an account. I stated that I worked for the company (that had business accounts with them) and wanted to cash this check on behalf of the company, but again was told $ 5. I spoke with the manager (or that is who she stated she was no name tag) and again I am sorry but we cannot cash this check unless you have an account or pay $ 5. The company that I work for processes about $ 700,000 a month through this bank, but no check cashed unless you pay $ 5. NO DESIRE TO HELP THE CUSTOMER AT ALL.
WE HAVE MOVED OUR ACCOUNTS TO THE COMPETITOR. HOORAY WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN ANY BANK OF THE WEST.

I hate this branch! Worst customer service ever! I love other branches, I avoid this one as much as possible. The staff has no respect for their customer’s time. Don’t overly chit chat when there’s a huge line. I just left this terrible branch. There were 5 customers in line and 2 open tellers, and 5 other employees on their computers or just wandering around like idiots. Nobody was working the drive-​tru. I could see as I was waiting in line, 3 customers pulled up, sat there for a while frustrated, and drive away angry. What is with you guys! Your manager should be fired.

This is just another in the long list of $ 3 ATM fee locations on 82^nd Avenue. Yes, I have done business with this bank in the form of giving them money to use their ATM machine (however I am not an account holder). I have used other Bank of the West ATM machines in other locations and none are this expensive. So the real question is this: does it REALLY cost more to maintain an ATM at this location than, say, one downtown on the skecthy section of the bus mall, or are you simply exploiting what you know to be a less-​mobile and more desperate socioeconomic crowd out on 82^nd.
Again, I would suggest not wasting your money here. Go up the street to the Korean-​run 82^nd Market on 82^nd and Mill where in a strange and bizarre twist, the ATM fee is only $ 1.50. Gee, one of those stand-​alone ATM’s in one of the more ghetto markets on that stretch of 82^nd costs less to maintain than one ATTACHED TO YOUR F*CKING BANK. Hmmm.
