History

Established in 1988.

Avalon Wine Inc. was founded 26 years ago by Jean Yates as a bed and breakfast in Oregon wine country. It quickly evolved into a retail store in Corvallis, where it specialized in Oregon and Washington wines. Avalon launched its award-​winning websites in 1999, featuring articles, interviews, columns, wine reviews, and an e-​commerce site.

In 2013, longtime employees Marcus Looze and Andy Osterhaus purchased Avalon from Jean and moved it to The Bindery in Portland, an eclectic urban space with a variety of retail stores and a winery in the basement. They’ll continue the internationally renowned website and wine clubs.
