BUYER BEWEAR! I got engaged last year and my fiancé proposed with his Grandma’s diamond and sapphire ring. We decided we wanted to reset the stones. I went to Ari to design a new ring. I told him that I was thinking about using the yellow gold from the orginal setting but wasn’t a 100% sure. I left the ring with him. A week later after I got the new design emailed to me (which was great and I loved it) we decided not to use the orginal gold setting. The day we made that decision we stopped in to tell Scott and he informed us that it was «good we stopped by because I was about to melt it down». My finance flipped! We had already paid the design fee or else I think at this point we would have gone elsewhere. Since we weren’t using the orginal gold we decided to go with white gold. Scott charged us over $ 100 a gram for 14 kart white gold! WAY over market value and higher than other stores. The rings total price kept changing as well. I realize that I was now asking for all new metal but come on. I recommend getting exact prices and getting it in WRITTING. Every time I went back he would throw new numbers at me and it got very confusing. Over three months (yes it took that long) I visited his store at least 5 times and he never once remembered my name. I know that seems like a small thing but I just didn’t feel like he cared very much about me. Yes he is talented at designing and yes my ring is beautiful but I STRONGLY recommend doing research and getting everything in writting. All in all I truely feel like I was ripped off. I spent almost $ 2000 for a design and a few grams of 14k white gold!

Scott is a true artist– just looking around his showcases you can see how very talented he is. He also works with top of the line technology to create the perfect custom jewelry if that is what you’d prefer. I brought in an heirloom ring that needed the center stone reset. Within 24 hours he had the ring looking as good as new. I couldn’t be happier and will be a customer of Scott’s for years to come.
He is incredibly personable and will undoubtedly be able to help you find or create the perfect piece. (also his price for custom pieces cannot be beat!)

Scott designed and made the beautiful wedding rings for my wife and I. He was such a pleasure to work with. He very patiently worked with both of us to collaborate on a ring design that we both love (we ended up getting matching rings), and they turned out beautifully. I went to Ari Diamonds after another jeweler had over polished my custom wedding ring. Scott oxidized it and restored it back to its original state and it came out perfect! I highly recommend him for all custom jewelry needs. He’s so down to earth and made me feel very comfortable. I will definitely be back for any future custom jewelry. Thanks Scott, you are awesome!

5/​15, time for an update!
Scott continues to impress us and design some beautiful things for this Mama. I purchased some gorgeous small hoop diamond earrings from him on Valentines Day of last year, what a treat. They are beautifully made and gorgeous!
I recently had him design a ring for me, originally I thought I wanted just Sapphires, but ended up changing my mind, and wanted to add a Diamond (I have a pair of Diamond Studs I don’t wear anymore). He had finished the ring already and had to break it down, remove the Sapphires and re-​design/​re-​cast the entire ring. All without making me feel badly for my indecision.
In the end I am soooo glad I added the diamond in the center, I love love love this ring. I am so happy to have some color. The design is exactly what I was looking for and the Sapphires are gorgeous and match perfectly. He had it done in 5 days too!
Scott is a true craftsman and he can make you anything you can dream of. He designed my wedding ring and I have never seen anything like it on anyone else’s finger. The beauty of custom design is you won’t be wearing the same ring ten thousand other brides are wearing.
If you wish, he also has lots of beautiful things already made for you to choose from.

Don’t be fooled by this jewelry store in this unassuming building! Scott creates wonderful pieces. Share your vision for your dream piece and he can create it for you at a much better price than the overpriced jewelry stores in town. He reset my diamond in a beautiful halo pave setting! The detail work is exquisite. I love it! It’s a family heirloom piece.

This guy is fantastic! So, I showed up 4 days before Christmas Eve. I was not optimistic that I would find anything. I was looking for a replacement «wear everyday» ring for my wife. (Her wedding set, while very nice, is not the greatest for day to day working, etc.) So, I told him this. he showed me the case. Nothing that worked.
He suggested we design something. «If we do it now, I can have it for you Christmas Eve.» NICE! He helped me design the ring to match my band. Great suggestion from Scott (Thanks, Scott!) We designed it up (took about 10 minutes), and we were on the way. Ring was done on time and looked great.
But wait, there’s more! Scott looked at the design, when finished and felt he might be able to improve the visibility of one element and make it look better. I picked up the ring on time. He told me to come back in a few days when the redesign was done to check it out, if I wanted to. (I did.) No charge to try to make me even happier. New design did just what he expected. Improved on what I had asked for and made the ring look even better. My wife loved it. He swapped out the ring at no additional charge.
What a great experience! Cannot recommend this place enough. I am not a huge Unilocaler, but I thought I would be sure to give Scott a review. He was that great.

I just had my ring appraised. Scott was so helpful. Also just a very kind person. I will be returning to have a ring custom made.

my fiancé and I decided to elope at the very last minute. the only problem: wedding bands that we needed to get. We pretty much had 3 working days and weekend to get them so I’m looking for something that were ready to wear and the only work needed was re-​sizing of the bands. I drove to few diamond places in downtown portland after work on Friday. the 1^st place had a small selection of bands and they would be able to do it in within the time frame. The only drawback was the price. Even after I negotiated the price down, they were still over our budget. So i moved to second store. It was a chain store and for the budget that I had, I couldn’t get much and the bands for both man and woman were mediocre. It was rough and quality was poor. The next logical thing was to Unilocal for diamond places and Ari came up. I was able to make it before they closed for the day. Scott was very helpful and showed me few options and I found my wedding band and picked up his. His price was very reasonable and around the same price range with the chain store that I visited before. The plus side: better quality for the price! Scott was very accommodating with my situation and able to get the male wedding band remade with the right size in within 2 business days. How awesome was that? Great customer service and great experience overall.

Scott is one of the friendliest and informative jewelers you can ever meet! He worked with me patiently on designing my dream engagement ring. I knew exactly what I wanted, and couldn’t be happier with the final product.
Before you ask, I did shop around after receiving a quote from Scott. Since my ring has a lot of detailed features, one jeweler was not willing to design a custom ring from scratch UNLESS I spend an arm and a leg. Another claimed it was too «labor intensive» and suggested I buy a designer setting instead.

We came in because my custom-​made engagement ring had been constructed with a band that was far too thin, and getting a bit warped. The folks at Ari were amazing — they talked us through the various options for getting it bulked up, going through pros and cons of each, and finally making their specialized recommendation. I picked up my ring a week later and it is incredible: sturdy, beautiful, with no compromising any of the original design. They’re a small, wonderful little shop. They really care about what they do, and do it well.

My one and only Portland jeweler! I came to Ari Diamonds 15 years ago with some loose diamonds and a few ideas. Scott was able to interpret what I wanted and created an absolutely gorgeous ring. This past month I decided I wanted to incorporate my original wedding band into the ring Scott had designed for me 15 years earlier, but I had no ideal how to make that happen. I returned to Ari Diamonds and Scott was able to take that old wedding band and blend it beautifully with the ring he had created 15 years earlier. I love it! Thank you Scott!

Skip the chain stores, skip the boorish snobs that look down their noses at you and go to Ari Diamonds. This is a FAMILY run business and I really appreciate that. Scott doesn’t put on airs and is refreshingly candid and thankfully honest. Scott has really amped up the uniqueness of his portfolio with his new designs and creativity.
Don’t forget that Scott and family have withstood the stress of armed robberies and severe financial loss only to remain in a business they love and enjoy. Go to Shane and Harry Ritchies if you want cookie-​cutter designs and usually cheap diamonds (yes, we shopped Shane before finding Ari — Shane has expensive diamonds on site, loose but at the time the cut and clarity was poor).
Go to Ari if you are looking for art or something personal and a chance to build a relationship with a family businessman. Scott is as much the character of the store as is its quirkly location and odd parking lot. Vote with your dollar, spend it with locals.
Someone asked if i actually shop here. Yes, i have spent well over $ 20K in rings, pendants and stones. If the economy cooperates, i’ll be having Scott watch for a special upgrade stone in the next couple of years…

It saddens me to write this review because I am a small business owner myself and I pride myself in doing business with the «little guy».
Scott’s professionalism is lacking. I came into purchase a diamond for a setting I already had. He asked if it was for myself and I said no, it was for my girlfriend. His cheery, eager demeanor changed immediately. He then proceeded to bring out several uncertified diamonds and one that was nearly yellow. All of them well below the standard I gave him in my initial request.
To make matters worse he burped. Yes, burped in my face. He said oops, there’s that Costco hotdog for lunch.
What did this kind of customer service get his company? Nothing. I went to Shane Co. in Tigard. Dropped $ 4500 on a certified diamond and got top notch service. Sad for Scott and his small business for not putting forth more effort and hiding his homophobic slant. I would have preferred to spend this kind of money with a small business.

Great family run shop, they’ll work with you to design whatever you want or they have samples and software to help come up with ideas if you’re not quite sure. It’s not the cheapest option for all items since you do pay for upfront work and sample creation but for unique and higher end items it’s an excellent deal and definitely worth investing the time.
