Just discovered this hearty gem. What a treasure it is. Professionally guided and run, it gives the visitor a great sense of Portland’s architectural heritage. Besides the restored 1890’2 building it is housed in. Current show of Architectural Metal decorations from late 19th Century is a wide ranging collection of classic images. Lion heads, owls, musical instruments, flowers, vines, chandlers, building trims and gargoyles, etc. all formed from various metal materials. It is wonderful and outstanding. Show up till end of Feb. Don’t miss. PS. parking can be challenging, just keep going around the blocks or walk in from MLK.

Membership and event fees help support a wide variety of interesting educational seminars, tours and events. This fine organization promotes greater understanding and appreciation for our region’s architecture and history. The Sat. morning seminars and Thurs. evening walking tours are especially fun and informative. Held in the early evening, the tour guides take small groups of congenial and curious people through neighborhoods and review the buildings, throwing in a good amount of interesting historical details. How interesting to find out how the villages that comprise our city evolved into the charming neighborhoods they are today. Where else can you find compelling and accessible information like this? Try an event and see if you like the program, then join and get a good discount on future events.
