If you’re seeking award-​winning designer desk adornments, antique cufflinks from around the world or necklaces made from melted bullet cases that support women from Ethiopia, you will not be disappointed! Equally whimsical are our shaving kits and coaster sets made from recycled fire hoses and an original 1920s NYC courtroom table. You will always find something you’ve never seen before at wit & whim!

One added twist: each month we donate our profits to a different charity that benefits individuals, communities & our world. «Fun raising,» our original way to gift & give back!

History

Established in 2012.

Wit and whim’s cleverly edited collection is housed in a recently restored, 1885 hallmark home along the waterfront town of Port Washington, N.Y. The goal is to create a beautiful setting with a relaxed atmosphere where shoppers can treat themselves and others to an international selection of art, design, craft and fashion. More than just a shop, it is a community hub as well. Wit & whim hosts a variety of events for children and adults including spirited cooking contests, craft projects, art exhibits & themed shopping nights.

Wit & whim also offers a concierge service to help customers always find the perfect gift! This is available during store hours (Tuesdays-​Saturdays, 10 – 6), and also by appointment on Sundays & Mondays.

Laurie Scheinman, veteran family therapist, redefines the meaning of «retail therapy» with her fresh new concept shop she aptly names, wit & whim. After spending her career connecting with people, Laurie takes that connection to a new level — one that is visual, tactile and certainly fun. Wit & whim is an extension of her long-​term commitment to support, foster and fund organizations in need.

I’m not normally a boutique shopper (because I often find boutiques somewhat intimidating, and also enjoy hunting for the unusual rather than stepping into a store), but «wit & whim» is my exception. I’m glad I finally decided to stop by after visiting my neighbor, Dawn, at her adjacent store (Initial Stop). The sheer variety of beautiful, decorative, and very much useful merchandise is not only staggering, but is displayed so artfully, that one can’t help but be amazed and delighted. I’m a fragrance junkie, and not one for the usual department store fragrances, so stumbling upon the Mélange line there was like hitting a gold lode. Krissy is a gem; helpful, welcoming, a pleasure to deal with, and her sense of style is a joy to behold. Kudos to Laurie Scheinman for creating this incredible store, and if that weren’t enough, 100% of profits go to a different charity every month. Kudos!

It’s like SoHo meets Long Island… awesome store!!! Every visit feels like i’m stepping into an ultra cool gallery with gifts and clothes that I can actually afford to buy! The best part is knowing that i’m giving back with every purchase because all proceeds go to worthy causes. Something for everyone… LOVE IT!

Wit & Whim is truly an amazing store. Every time I stop by they have new items on display and everything is unique made from local designers. All the display furniture are also up for sale. A percentage of their sales proceeds go towards a different charity each month. If you have a difficult person to shop for, you can truly find something in this store for them!
