The egg rolls are really weird tasting. The dishes that typically have a crispy kind of meat are very soggy and soft. Fried rice is very bland. They only accept cash. Lame

Terrible quality food. Even saw a cockroach crawling from behind the station. Disgraceful.

Delicious chinese take-out. Had the half fried chicken with pork fried rice and I was impressed. The chicken looked cooked scrumptiously and professionally like the chicken was out of a gourmet magazine. The pork fried rice was scrumptious. Gum How is the place to go in Port Washington to get your Chinese food. Living in Flushing, Queens for all my life, Gum How passes the muster for good chinese take out, and reminded me of home in Flushing.

I love this Chinese place. Granted, it’s not really a sit down place(there are tables but it’s not that nice inside), they only take cash, and it’s probably full of MSGBUT the food is great. Really great. And the prices are reasonable. My go-tos are the chicken and broccoli, chicken fried rice, and wonton soup. The brown sauce is great. The chicken fried rice has a bunch of shredded onion that makes it savory and wonderful. And the pork in the wontons is high quality and tastes very flavorful. I’ve never found a better Chinese place then here. Excellent take out Chinese!

Best ribs ice ever had. Swear to God. It’s ungodly and unfair how good they are. Almost disgustingly good. Mouth is watering as I sit outside their restaurant typing this review waiting for my bag of ribs. Go here now.

Best Chinese takeout ever, period. This place never disappoints and keeps me coming back for more. Reasonably priced menu too. My girlfriend and I refer to it as «crack Chinese» since it’s just that good! Highly recommend if you happen to find yourself in the Port Washington area.

This is not just the worst Chinese food i have ever eaten, it may well be the worst food of ANY kind I have been served. Everything smelled rancid and tasted burned. The chicken wings had feathers, thanks a lot. I have never done this before but after $ 60 and a couple of bites i threw everything out. This was truly disgusting. If you are the owner reading this you should be ashamed of yourself for serving this dreck.

I used to order from this joint frequently but had stopped for no real reason, and I ordered out of the blue the other day, they must have changed cooks or something, it was not that good and the forgot to put sauce on someones sweet and sour. Egg roll’s were solid greese. brightside was a very good fried wonton.

OK Updating again. After trying just about every other Chinese place in town We went back to Gum How. It was very good as it was before. Maybe they just had a bad week or something. I will say you have to ask for mustard, duck sauce, and if you want extra of something like hoisin for your moo shoo you probably wont get it. They are really cheap with that stuff. Im updating my review because the last two times we ordered it was not very good at all. Very greasy and the taste was not the same. We are searching for a new local Chinese to no avail yet.

There are a number of Chinese restaurants from which to choose in Port Washington, and Gum How isn’t exactly high on my list. Although I wouldn’t consider most Chinese food to be low fat, particularly noodle dishes, they needn’t be swimming in grease either. But that’s exactly how they serve them at Gum How. General Tso’s Chicken — the chicken that actually was in it – was gristly and tough; the remainder was mostly coating and very, very slick. The egg roll was tough and overfried. The fried rice was just okay. Even the wonton soup left much to be desired. The soup was dark and cloudy, and the wontons that were in it were cold inside. That was but one experience; I had tried them a couple of other times prior to that, and although I had been less than impressed, I wasn’t so turned off that I wouldn’t try them again at some future date, especially if I found myself in their shopping center and in need of a quick meal. That last meal, however — with the awful General Tso’s, etc. — was the clincher. No credit cards, by the way — cash only. Service, however, was fast and and very friendly. However, the food is the main thing, and in my opinion, it just isn’t very good.

Having been living in the area, I’ve been a big fan of Gum How. A standard chinese menu that is reasonably priced along with a fast and friendly service makes this a definite choice when one wants to take a break from cooking at home. I’m a big fan of the curry chicken with onion, along with their shredded beef. Also the vegetarian hot and sour soup(not on menu, but can be made to order) is great as well… Overall, great food prepared quick makes this a spot not to be neglected on the North Shore… Drawbacks include, No Delivery and No Credit Cards. Also, i do wish that longer hours would exist.

Ordered their General Tso’s chicken combo dinner with pork fried rice, hot and sour soup and steamed dumplings. Speed of service was ok… probably quicker than it seemed since I didn’t call ahead but waited for it. General Tso’s chicken was HORRIBLE to say the least. How does a chinese restaurant screw up General Tso’s chicken, one of the most ordered dish? There was not a hint of spice at all which is what it should be made with, spicy red chili peppers. There was also very little chicken as all you tasted was fried dough. I’m giving it two stars bc the fried rice was actually decent. So if you’re looking to eat chicken flavored fried batter in a sweet BBQ sauce. order General Tso’s chicke, otherwise keep on driving.
