This is my go to take out Chinese food joint. I work in Port Washington and I tried a few places and this one works for me. They are quick and food is always tasty. The restaurant really is for just take out– they do have some tables to sit if you want. The dumplings are great and their sesame chicken is the best I’ve had on Long Island to date. It is very flavorful and crispy. Other dishes I have tried and enjoyed are: boneless ribs, egg foo young, shrimp and lobster sauce and mei fun. I don’t call ahead. I walk in and order because I’m never actually sure what I want until I get there and I usually only wait about 5 – 8 minutes for my food after ordering.

We parked the car and Scott H. said, «This doesn’t look promising.» I protested that it looked just like any other cheap takeout place — mildly dingy, with a feel of greasy air and the smell of hot woks and fried meat. We were hungry, and found the lunch special’s pricing fair enough to place an order. He got boneless spare ribs with fried rice, and hot & sour soup. I got shrimp with broccoli, my usual order everywhere, with white rice, and a shrimp roll. I’ll give you the positives first: the shrimp was properly de-veined, the white rice was fine, and Scott said the ribs weren’t bad. Everything else… WELL. I am a fan of hot & sour soup, usually. In fact, the first thing I ask every Chinese takeout place I go to is whether they have pork in their soup — I don’t eat pork. Eastern Strawberry does not have pork in their soup! I rejoiced, and told Scott I was going to steal some of his soup. I did. It was hot, temperature-hot, but neither sour nor spicy-hot. To make matters worse, it was… sludgy. No soup needs that much cornstarch! I finished my few spoonfuls I had set aside, even after calling it disgusting within the first sip. Scott tossed the rest of it straight into the trash after a taste. The«fried rice»? Fried rice is supposed to be made with day-old(ish) rice, so that it’s dry enough to separate and toss well. A tip for Chinese takeout chef hopefuls: there is more than one ingredient besides«old rice.» Your rice shouldn’t taste like it was microwaved and stale. The shrimp and broccoli I thought was passable, until my tummy did some somersaults about an hour after I finished my food. It wasn’t great, and I certainly wouldn’t get it again, but I thought it was safe enough to eat for the time being. If you’ve been keeping track, I’ve been wrong about every«This’ll be okay» assumption I made thus far. The shrimp roll was just plain bad. I fished out the shrimp, then tossed the rest. Old roll or overused oil or a combination of both made it taste vaguely rancid. The very first time we passed by this restaurant, I commented aloud that a name like«Eastern Strawberry» didn’t instill a desire to eat here. I’d never had a strawberry in any Chinese restaurant setting, and didn’t associate this fruit with East Asian fast food. Next time I’ll go with my gut, away from here.

This is hands down my favorite Chinese take out joint in the area. I order from them just about every Friday. The staff is super friendly and the location is incredibly clean. I’ve never had delivery so I can’t comment on that. They have brown rice option with no added charge(can’t even find that in most places). Parking can be a little bit of a pain since the street is so busy.

Excellent for what it is: basic, inexpensive Chinese fast food. The staff is happy and friendly, and delivery is fast. The restaurant is spotlessly clean.

ORDEROREATELSEWHERE Called for a delivery and had no problem placing order. Food was delivered promptly but received the wrong item. Ordered a Triple Delight and received Chicken and Broccoli. When I called to tell them I received the wrong item all of a sudden they didn’t understand english and had me repeat four times that I didn’t receive what I ordered. To make it worst the food wasn’t fresh or any good. Fortunately Port Washington has another ½ dozen choices and they are all better. Won’t be ordering from here again.
