Commisso and Company

This salon is absolutely great! I live in NYC and take the train to Port Washington just to get my hair highlighted and cut! It’s very hard for me to trust anyone with my hair but I have full trust in the stylists at this salon! Each stylist is very talented and they use the highest quality products. It is owned by a family that has been cutting hair for years– they know what they are doing. If you’re looking for a high quality salon that is both hip and classy, you better make an appointment here!

If the older woman who works at the front desk wasn’t working there; I would have stayed a regular. However, I can’t deal with rudeness and this woman seems to lack common sense. The day I decided to stop going there was the day she asked me to pay while I was getting shampooed and I told her if she can wait as obviously I’m in an awkward position laying back with my hair wet and all… and she refused because she «was closing and she had to go». So she passed me my purse and to make matters worst one of the owners sons saw it all go down and didn’t say a word. Had the same issue as another reviewer with appointments claiming people are unavailable when they were.

I don’t give the salon one star but I give the nasty secretary in the front one. She is the worst. One of my friends said it perfectly: «if the front is toxic it moves to the back». She always messes up my appointments &/​says someone is unavailable when they aren’t. Absolutely disgusting! This salon has lost many of my close friends business because of this reoccurring issue.

Excellent place! Felt very relaxed from the start, warm welcome, long massaging shampoo (shampoo girl was wonderful … Stacy Escobar) they take the time to get to know you, and they make sure they are satisfying your want… Very important … I love this place! I will make this my new hair place thanks guys!

I have been coming here for years and before my most recent cut, I loved it. It all depends on the stylist though. Sarah, who I had last time gave me the perfect cut. She listened and took me step by step while she was cutting to make sure I was happy. This time however, Carlo cut my hair. I told him what I wanted and showed him a picture. He was a very nice guy but to be honest, he didn’t go through anything with me. He acknowledged what I wanted and just went ahead and cut away. By the time I realized how much he has cut it was too late. I asked for a trim and to keep it long. He ended up cutting multiple inches and my hair is not at all how I wanted it to look. I am very very upset. I know it will grow back but for a pricey haircut, it isn’t at all what I wanted. I will unfortunately be keeping my hair in a pony tail (even though it doesn’t all fit in one) until it grows out.

I first went to this salon for my best friend’s wedding and immediately loved the services provided by this salon. The wedding party were all treated like gold and most importantly, we were finished in a timely manner. Everyone’s hair looked amazing and lasted throughout the night.
I loved the salon services so much, I’ve become a client. Marco is a very talented and has literally transformed my hair. I have never gotten as many compliments on the style and look of my hair, as I do after a cut with him. Ida is a pure artist with color and I have gone from blonde to brunette, back to blonde with her guidance and skill. Its hard to find a place that is professional, honest and also friendly, so it’s nice to finally stop looking.

I enjoy getting my hair blown out one or two times a week. Noticing the updated store front I took the opportunity to venture inside and hoped someone had time for me. The store was gorgeous; very sleek, modern and clean. Upon entering further I was greeted by a lovely young girl who provided a helping hand and was able to sit me with a free stylist within a few minutes. For someone constantly on the go this was a nice relief. The blow out looked amazing! Giving great balance of body and length, it lasted two days. I look forward to returning there the next time I’m running around and need another service.

I have been coming to this salon for almost 3 years now. They offer the best services! I can always trust Ilyssa for a fabulous blow out and cut… and Carlo for the best color and highlights. Ever since I came here, my hair has been growing more healthily and I get compliments from everyone. I recommend them to all my friends and family. They are conveniently located in Port Washington with a parking lot in the back. The staff is super friendly and talented. I have never walked out of the salon feeling disappointed. I highly recommend this salon to everyone! I would give them 10 stars if it was an option. :)

I’ve been visiting Ilyssa at Commisso and Company for about 2 years and she is great! I trust her with my unruly and difficult to manage hair and always walk out feeling like a new person. She is friendly and helpful and always makes sure I feel comfortable no matter how busy or chaotic the salon is. Must try!

I love this place. Dominic is great. He did my blonde highlights with multicolored highlights which were a nice touch. My sister loved my hair so much she went back for Ombré highlights… they looked awesome. They take time on each costumer so just plan more time in your day for your hair.

I always have a wonderful experience at Commisso and Company! Yessy has been doing my hair for years, but most recently I saw Dominic for a bridesmaid updo. The result was stunning and I received compliments the whole night (my hair stayed in place the entire time without feeling uncomfortable or crunchy)! A few days later, Dominic gave me a gorgeous haircut which I am so happy with! Friendly and knowledgable staff — I left my haircut knowing exactly the best techniques and products for styling my hair. I would highly recommend this salon!

Dominic is a chemist when it comes to highlights. He took his time and I had a full head of natural looking highlights. The only other time I had highlights this great was at the Rita Hazan Salon in NYC, but it cost a fortune. Commisso and Company is a small town salon with the NYC experience minus the hefty price tag. The staff was super friendly but not fake. I parked in the back and walked in the back door not knowing and one of the staff members escorted me to the front desk without making me feel foolish. The interior of the salon was very sleek and clean. I highly recommend anyone who wants great color in a relaxed atmosphere to make an appointment with Dominic.

Tony Commisso of Commisso & Co. has been cutting my hair for 20 years; his talent is unmatched.
I have enough long layered hair for three heads, PLUS it has different textures, and Tony is the ONLY one who can handle it. When I’ve had it cut elsewhere, either because I was out of state or just looking for a back-​up, the result was always the same: choppy uneven layers — a botched haircut. I’d always wind up having to get it «fixed» at Commisso & Co.
The best thing about the cut Tony gives me is that it is LOW maintenance. In fact, because of the way it’s permed, all I do in the morning is run a pick through it and it looks like I just came from the salon. Doesn’t get much better than that.
I’ve been stopped on the streets of NY and been asked where I get my hair cut so many times it doesn’t phase me anymore. I’m not the only long time fan – I routinely encounter women who’ve been with the salon even longer than I have. Sometimes they’ve come from far away, so the 22 minute ride from Penn Station to the elegant town of Port Washington is a breeze (the salon is next to the train station).
Happily, Tony’s sons Dominic, Carlo, and Marco have inherited his magic powers, and all three work at the salon. Having been trained by the master himself, they can do it all-​cut, color, style, you name it.

My color needed refreshing and I had no time to travel into the city to my usual salon. Decided to try Commisso since I live in the neighborhood. The receptionist was very pleasant about squeezing me in. Salon was clean and pleasant, with lots of magazines :) I waited 20 minutes past my appointment, but Dominic apologized and offered me a free blowout. Very smart. I was pleased with my color, and felt that customer service was important here. Would definitely give them another try.

As I purchased my first groupon from here, I had low expectations (as I have read that most salons do not provide the best service to groupon users) but I could not have been more wrong. I had a cut with full highlights done by Dominic, and everything about my experience was amazing. He is truly an artist. The colors were beautiful and even months after, they still look bright and were mixed perfectly with my natural hair color. I have a lot of hair so coloring/​cutting it can be daunting, but Dominic seemed to enjoy doing it. He also put in a lot of layers which I was hesitant about since the last time I had so many layers it looked «mullet» like, but he somehow made them perfectly even and my hair has so much more bounce and weighs half as much (I can finally put my hair in a pony tail). Dominic is also very interesting and I was thoroughly entertained the entire time. As I will continue to get my hair done here, I recommend C3 (commisso and company) to everyone.

Dominic did a great job both cutting and coloring my hair. He was really patient and listened to all my wants/​concerns throughout our consultation. He made me feel fully confident that he would make sure I was happy with my hair. Also — the new salon is gorgeous and has a great younger, hip vibe which makes being there very pleasant. Will definitely be going back :)

Dominic is great with highlights! I felt like he did a much more thorough job the first time I came in as a new client. My color I got recently was more brassy looking than blonde. They need to learn how to better schedule clients too, someone else had to finish my hair so he could go to the next client.

Before I start the review, let me first note that I am BEYOND picky. I am the first to complain or first to compliment, depending on the situation. I went into this salon and got highlights done, deep conditioning and a style. Carlo was my stylist. He made sure that I did not walk out unless I was happy, no matter what. He genuinely wanted me to be happy. I wasn’t fond of how the color came out, he did it again. Free. He goes above and beyond to keep customers coming back. Its not everyday you find this kind of service. If you were to go here, I strongly recommend you pick Carlo as a stylist. You will know why once you experience his exceptional customer service. In addition, when he re-​colored my hair, he took his time, didn’t rush. Was very pleasant and upbeat about it. I was just shocked by the whole experience. Its very hard to come across people as nice and professional as Carlo. The service is second to none. Try it.
