This hotel really doesn’t seem to be in the hotel business. It is ‘managed’ from the restaurant below with no real lobby; no reception; no real staff other than the wait staff in the restaurant. It is tired. Windows, of dried wood and barely operable(one out of 3 worked) have a hazy historical patina of dust, from seasons and years passed. The view is punctuated with many white splatters, courtesy of the copious seabirds in the area. We found the space ample but it has seen better days. The long time ignored finishes, all sported dings, dents, missing paint and nail holes. After climbing the stairs covered with ancient, loose and worn carpet, passing a poorly lit lobby and hall with a ladder, construction frame and table barricading a door we entered our room where someone left a pair of dirty socks on the floor to greet us. I gave them 2, instead of 1 stars because the nightly rate was not high.

The menu was enticing and pulled us in… however, the food was just ok and served lukewarm. …I had lobster bisque soup which was excellent but lukewarm; the blue cheese apple salad was also delicious but I would have preferred some blue cheese dressing. For my main course I had an appetizer of baked oysters Rockefeller which were good but not great and served lukewarm. My dining partner had a burger with sauteed onions and mushrooms which was about a 6 out of 10 due to the bun disintegrating but he said it did taste good. Save your money or go to Docs marina grill instead… the food there was sublime.

The view and location were great. I think the place has a lot of potential because of that. Unfortunately our experience was not the best –our waiter didn’t speak to us only to say«what do you want». We actually thought he was the bus boy. We over heard another table receive recommendations — which we would have definitely loved to know about(the crab and artichoke sandwich was not what we expected). It was also unfortunate to hear the waitstaff speak about guests on the floor. I used to work in the food industry and am very lenient of those who work in the food industry but this was a «different» experience. Hopefully it is not always this way.

The shellfish is fresh and supurb! Sean’s service was exceptional nd the staff freindly. Ambience was wonderful and view was spectacular! I’ll be back to bring family and friends when they visit, in between my fix for the steamed clams, and the wonderful mussels!

The food was terrible. Ordered the chowder but couldn’t eat it due to the smell. The waitress came back about 20 minutes later but by then I was so angry I didn’t want a replacement item. My family left without eating a good portion of their food. We received no apology. Won’t be back to eat. Terrible food and awful service. Too bad because the view is beautiful and the hotel is very cool.

We’re locals, so we were disappointed when there was a $.50 charge for two olives in our martini. Also, the crab louie used to have plenty of crab(up to ¾ cup), but this time it wasn’t even ½ cup. The lobster bisque was amazing as was the calamari. We just won’t have olives next time and certainly won’t have the louie. Our server was Claire and she did a great job. We mentioned we’re dining Paleo, so she made mention she wasn’t bringing us bread and also mentioned she wouldn’t tempt us with the dessert menu. Smart gal!

My family went to your restaurant for Thanksgiving, 10 of us. We came from Whidbey, Sequim and Shoreline. Some of ordered the holiday meal some ordered other meals. No one had a good meal, in particular my son and myself. We ordered the mushroom pasta… it was the worst meal I have ever tried to eat, there were like three mushroom bits in it, it was full of huge green beans I even got a huge chunk of VINE in mine. The tomato based«sauce» was gross, like diced tomatoes dumped out of the can. It tasted like tomato gunk with green beans. I tried 4 bites and sent it back, the girl didn’t even ask why I was sending back a full plate. My son’s was just as bad, he also sent back a full plate. We told them when our reservation was made that we had a senior with a walker who couldn’t do steps, you sat us upstairs! We barley got my mom up and back down. What a nightmare! The only good food on our table was the crab cake appetizer my daughter ordered. We were all so excited to meet and have dinner in PT, but now I really wish I would have just made dinner at home. We ended up going to the store and getting Mighty Bites.

I am giving 3 stars because my friends were very complimentary of their meals, and because the service and the staff was friendly and prompt. I was disappointed that my meal was not served hot. The shredded potatoes with cheddar and sour cream sounded delicious, but it was served cold not even at room temperature, and my filet mignon was only slightly above room temperature. It was a busy Saturday evening and everyone was working hard. I would give it another try if in the area again, but I since I am not a seafood fan, I would be ordering the same thing with my fingers crossed.

We entered the restaurant and everything looked great. Elegantly decorated and classy white tablecloths. We noticed the prices were a little high but were counting on the food being delicious and so far the atmosphere was perfect. We asked to sit outside and were promptly escorted out onto the little deck. In absolute horror we were seated at a hideously filthy looking plastic table with horrendous stains and cracks! Our silverware was dirty and the disgust in the look of the table just ruined my appetite. After looking at the menu and trying to stay positive since our waters were served I just thought to myself, 40.00 a person served on a table like this? HELLONO. I wouldn’t even serve my worst enemies on a table looking like this. Jeezus, get some tablecloths out there for heaven’s sake! Totally disgusting.

We went Friday night for our anniversary on 7⁄31. I had made reservations, but they got the day wrong(had us down for the 1st), but the host found us a table out on the deck as I had requested when I made the reservation. Nice. Only reason not a five star; I am such a Unilocaler — check here for everything! But I didn’t think to do this for the Belmont and went to their website. The picture they have of their deck differs greatly for what it truly is — plastic tables with no tablecloths, dirty, in need of paint. Very nice view, though — we still enjoyed ourselves. But they shouldn’t have a picture posted making it seem a lot nicer than it is. Having said that, the food was wonderful! We had the lobster bisque — very nice; very rich. Would have been better with some lobster chunks in there, but very tasty. We had the crab cocktail with the wasabi cocktail sauce — one of the best crab cocktails we’ve ever had! The crab was plentiful and very fresh. I had the special of the day — it was a lobster tail with scallops and halibut sitting in a very nice broth/sauce! Loved dipping their wonderful hot herb rolls in that sauce. The only thing with this dish — the scallops were rubbery, but the lobster and the fish were very, very good. K had the split filet Mignon; one side with a brandy demi-glaze and the other with Bearnaise; very, very tasty and flavorful. Filet Mignon has a tendency to be flavorless, but this beef was terrific and the Bearnaise — über wonderful! I got Naked on the deck :) They have a wine line from the Naked Winery and I had a glass of the Pinot Noir. Very nice wine — bought a bottle to bring home. The house let us choose a desert for our anniversary and we chose the Banana Belt; a very tasty concoction of caramelized bananas, Myers rum with vanilla bean ice cream with toffee and espresso sprinkles — major yum! And our server, Colin — very pleasant and friendly. He helped make the dinner a wonderful experience. We will definitely be coming back to the Belmont when we visit Port Townsend again. And just a note; K ordered the soup, but we both ate from it(Colin brought me my own spoon), we shared the crab cocktail and we split the desert(again, two plates and two forks) and we did not get charged for a «split plate» — wonder what that was about?

This place is really weird. Yes, its on the water. But that doesn’t make up for overly-familiar waitstaff, plastic tables, bad food and unreasonably high prices. What restaurant has a fee for splitting a plate and a waiter who says«yous two need anything else?» TOURISTTRAP. Don’t waste your time.

We recently moved to Port Townsend and thought the Belmont looked like a great place. We have tried three times to have lunch there. The first two times we waited at the hostess stand for ten minutes, no one came so we left. Yesterday we thought we would try again, even worse. Two employees saw us standing there and continued their conversation had something to drink and ignored us. Again left after waiting for over ten minutes along with two other couples. Don’t waste your time here.

We had a great time at The Belmont! After a day touring Fort Worden, it was time for a great dinner on the waterfront while my dad was visiting. We had our two boys with us and didn’t want anything fancy or super expensive. When I walked in The Belmont, the appearance was upscale and I worried we might not fit in too well, being all scruffy from walking around. The host welcomed us warmly and reassured us that we were very welcome to dine there, and that the kids could eat from the lunch menu, and that any dietary issues would be happily accommodated. Plus, there’s a staircase to the beach. SOLD! We had a great time. The staff could not have been friendlier and the food was very good. I enjoyed the chicken caesar, and my two boys really liked their pesto clams. Yum! Thanks, Belmont!

We were looking for a good seafood restaurant in Port Townshend that served oysters. We found this and more in The Belmont. My young daughter raved about the oysters rockefeller. My son had the filet with prawns and dungeness and was equally happy. We tried the local clams and mussels which were the perfect consistency. I don’t recall ever having mussels this large before. The décor is very dated, but comfortable. No pretense at all. We had a nice water view and the service was impeccable. The only negative is that they won’t be open for the second night of our visit.

I read a bunch of the reviews for this restaurant and most seemed good so we gave it a try. We visited on a Fri night around 7:30. The restaurant wasnt busy at all, but there were 4 or 5 tables with patrons. The view from the oceanside room was picturesque. There were even several sailboats on the water. The herb rolls came out warm and soft and seemed locally if not home made. My husband had the filet mignon with the blue cheese sauce. He ordered it medium. He always orders it medium but rarely does a chef get a steak actually medium. However… the chef working this grill must have known what he was doing because the steak came out PERFECT! We were shocked. The shredded potato/sour cream/cheese side was very delicious as well. I had the cesar salad. The waiter said the dressing was home made. I believe it because it was one of the best i have ever tasted. The wait staff was very nice and the kitchen we walked past seemed clean, which is always a good sign. One of the chefs nodded to us as we came in, which we thought was very nice that even the chefs seemed to appreciate our patronage. The tables were nicely set and the lighting was romantic. Sadly, this reataurant is dated. BUT, it IS in one of the old historic buildings downtown so that is to be expected for sure. The booth seat we sat on was cracked a bit and the tablecloth had what looked like a burned spot on it. Neither of those things detracted necessarily from the great taste of the food or the experience. It is unfortunate that The Belmont has to compete with so many equally as good restaurants in town because it really is a good place to eat. Would have been 5 stars if the décor were a bit updated. Belmont…you should hire a string quartet or jazz band to help draw in more customers on Fri and Sat night maybe. I think it would draw in some patrons for your upstairs bar as well. Overall great experience.

My son and I were in town for a weekend getaway, and came here for dinner. Honestly it felt a little weird to be walking in here with a small child, but the waiter was great with him. They didn’t really have a printed kids menu, so he let my son make up what he wanted. My son voted for fettuccini with butter and sprinkle cheese on the side and they were happy to accommodate :) I ended up going with the filet with blue cheese sauce. It comes with caramelized onions, potatoes, and vegetables. I ordered it «blue rare» and it came out cooked perfect and was beyond delicious. The sauce was incredible. Before the meal though we ordered some raw oysters on the half shell. They were HUGE and tasted so fresh. I often have found that the bigger the oyster the more gritty it usually is, but that was not the case with these. They were super fresh and had great flavor. Dessert was the key lime crème brulee and it was really good. Nothing on the dessert menu appealed to my son so he asked if he could just get ice cream with cherries and they were happy to whip that up for him. Overall the dining experience was awesome and our waiter was great!

The seafood linguine is delicious! The thought«I could take a bath in this sauce» came to mind; a sign of a good entrée. It’s a white wine sauce leaning heavy on the garlic albeit you don’t have to eat the chopped bits of garlic but I enjoyed them. The muscles had excellent flavor as well as the shrimp. The clams not as much but that’s right on point for clams in my experience. Salmon, and halibut weren’t as flavorful but because of the sauce I was impressed. And the side of grilled toast was superb.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review for this restaurant before. We pretty much always come here when we visit Port Townsend once or twice a year. I wanted to try another place in town that had poutine in September of 2013 and I still ordered for take out for home of my favorite dish, the hot and spicy chicken fettuccine, 5 star spice. We have always had great service and if it is a nice day eating on the deck is wonderful. My family has had the burger, crab cakes, sole, Belmont salad, and fish and chips that I can remember. Everyone was always happy with their dish. The hot and spicy fettuccine is all I can order here now. I love it and have tried finding a recipe to make it at home, but I haven’t had any luck. Also, this is the oldest hotel in town in response to others reviews on the state of building. It might seem a little out of date and need of a bit of repair, but it is a building that is extremely old and everything adds to the ambiance. I am picky about smells and I think they smell fine. Their fries and tarter sauce are quite good as well as their water.
