The best thing I can say about any health care professional is true here: no scare tactics have ever been used on me and I’ve been given choices in treatment options. Another very nice quality is that everyone in the office washes their hands. There’s tons of warnings out there that patients should demand health professionals wash their hands and I’ve always believed patients should not have to ask or demand. It’s a best practice and I appreciate it.

Comment on the Dental Practice of Dr Scharf in Port Townsend:
This is wonderful office located in Uptown. I have been treated there for over a decade. I have always been impressed with the quality of care. The staff (all women by the way) have been competent & seem to enjoy their work. There is always new artwork displayed throughout the office. Beautiful, exotic wood used throughout. Re: the dental work. While it is difficult for a lay person to assess the quality I have always felt well cared for.
One side note: presently I am entering my fourth week of having a numb tongue after replacing a crown in the lower jaw. Apparently nothing can be done about this nuisance. So even with good dental service s. – t can & does happen.

Writing about my SF dentist made me think fondly about Dr. Scharf, back in Port Townsend. He always made me laugh, and his staff always seemed to enjoy their work environment. He has all kinds of music you can listen to, in headphones, while you’re there — — a really good and interesting selection.
And he’ll never patronize you the way my new (now former!) CA dentist did. He’ll tease you, fondly — — ever so much nicer! He always worked with me, helping me to make decisions about what needed to be done, STAT, and what could wait.
