Spruce Hill Lunch

Spruce Hill lunch is out of business.

First, do NOT believe the google maps location. Spruce Hill Lunch (it is actually open many more hours than just lunch) is NOT in downtown Port Royal. It is located about 7 miles west of Port Royal on Rte 75 and about 2.5 miles west of the intersection at 74 and 75. You can’t miss it. It is located in a «pie slice» of land at a Y intersection. Their parking lot is at the tip of the «pie» and the restaurant is at the end of the lot.
This is a vegan /​vegetarian restaurant set part way up the side of a mountain overlooking a lovely farming valley with vistas across to a facing mountain. As a vegetarian myself, I was thrilled to find this place in a region better known for meat and potatoes food — emphasis on the meat.
Everything is made on the site, and the people are friendly without being in your face. They also serve ice cream in a stand attached to the building.
The area has many organic farms and CSAs (community supported agriculture) farms. It is also home to a large hare krishna community. The building must have been constructed in the 1940s or so but has certainly been taken care of. It is unpretentious and simple while having a, well elegant, honest quality. You feel find just lingering there.
You can make this a stop on a drive through the mountains or on the way back from a hike. Hours during the winter and early spring are shorter. Check the website and /​or call.
