KARATE is a game of strategy using focused and efficient movement that uses the whole body as a weapon.
The philosophy of BUTOKUKAN karate is not to fight, but to fight only in self defense of yourself or others.
Our instruction includes how to avoid fights and the appropriate use of force.
History
Established in 1974.
Kitsap Karate is a member of the Japan American Butokukan Karate Association. Our history dates back to Japan in 1948 when our late grand master, Yoichi Nakachi, began karate. In 1959 Nakachi moved to Seattle, WA. In 1961, Nakachi began teaching at Olympic College in Bremerton.
When, In 1965, Master Nakachi returned to Japan, he promoted Sensei Robert Hill as Master. Master Hill has led Butokukan Karate ever since. Master Hill taught Sensei Bill Olson who taught our current black belt instructors. Collectively they have over 40 years teaching experience. We are also active in Port Orchard community events.
