Save A Pet Animal Rescue

They gave my friend the complete runaround. Bold faced lied to him about the animal being adopted. Told him to neuter his dog in order to adopt their dog and AFTER they tell him he’s been adopted. Then «poof» suddenly not adopted. Ok, so he tries again. Has successful meet and greet with his dog and theirs. Again, no. Then they tell him he has pit bulls and they want him going to a home without dogs. REALLY?! After all that? Why not say that upfront? Why LIE?! Why do this to someone that simply wants to offer this pet a loving caring home? Can anyone say DISCRIMINATION? Thank you for being a part of the reason that pit bulls have a bad rap! Bet you don’t feel this way when YOURE trying to adopt OUT a pit bull! SHAME ON YOU!!!

A huge thank you to the ladies who patiently waited on my eight-​year-​old son as he picked out his first animal. The professionalism and courtesy of the staff is on matchable. Clean, kind, and full of love. Absolutely love this establishment and will return to support them. This is a great place and should be known to everyone in the area as a safe adoption space.

Would have to give an OK rating. Seems like they are doing right by the animals there and the staff seems knowledgable — however, I have to agree with an earlier commenter, while we are both near 30 yrs old, my husband and I felt negatively judged because we were younger as if we were not «ready» for a dog. I was happy to see they screen the people that come in to adopt for the welfare of the animals, however i felt some of the questions were invasive (like, «are you having children soon») & the fees were quite high for the small dog we looked at. Their whole «application» process seems a bit pretentious– we waited over a week to hear that we ended up not be «qualified» enough for Save-​A-​Pet to adopt the dog, but we are very happy to hear the dog went to a good home (hopefully).

To update this review my dog turned out to be Mountain Cur puppy that is now 2 years old. Everyone including our vet remarked that she was in near perfect condition when we got her. Thanks for putting us together with Molly our new best friend.

We adopted our «furry son,» Sawyer, 3 years ago from Save-​a-​Pet. They are the sweetest, kindest people and clearly love their animals. They take pride in finding good homes for the animals they rescue. We had such a positive experience with them that my parents decided to go here to rescue a dog. They ended up adopting «Amigo,» now Milo, a 4 year old Chihuahua mix. He is an absolute doll! I will ALWAYS recommend Save-​A-​Pet for those looking to adopt. I rescued a cat back in 2006 from Save-​A-​Pet and had a terrific experience .
This past October we came to Save-​A-​Pet a second time and rescued our dog.
We received excellent service from all!
This is non for profit run. So many people make donations to keep it up and running. Whether it be monetary, newspapers, blankets, treat, food, toys, supplies etc. They spay/​neuter/​micro chip, have clinic in the back building with excellent vets.
They love and care very much about all of the animals. They do extensive backgrounds, not giving the animals to just anyone. which I love.
I read in some above reviews that the workers ignore the customers. I myself try and visit as often as possible to spend time with animals and to make donations. I’ve personally witnessed their phones ring off the hooks! They’re not about being rude to anyone. They’re doing their very best to solve a million problems, find animals loving homes and deal with the horrific stories of some of the animals that arrive at shelter.
They have long days & aren’t appreciated enough.

I wish I could rate this company ZERO but unfortunately Unilocal only lets me put as low as 1 star! I have been to this place 3 times over the past few years and to be honest, I don’t even know what kept bringing me back, but I will never go there again after this.
The first time I went in with my mom, we were looking to adopt a dog and didn’t know where to start, so we tried here first. From the second we walked in, the people working clearly showed absolutely NO interest in the fact that we were there. Im sorry but I work in customer service and if you’re standing behind a counter I’m pretty sure it’s a standard rule to say «Hello» or maybe even SMILE! They avoided eye contact and kept their own conversations. MIND YOU this place is the size of my CLOSET! So it’s not like they couldn’t tell we were there. We paced around for a little and looked at the cats until my mom finally approached the associates herself, having to interrupt them. They seemed bothered by the fact that we were there. She asked about dogs and they gave us such an attitude. Handed us the book and asked why we weren’t considering an adult cat. Not that we have a problem with adopting a cat, we love cats but my dad is highly allergic. But they were basically looking down to us and not treating us like customers because we weren’t looking to take home one of the cats in the main room. Before they left us at the counter alone to look at the book of dogs, we were asking if they had any smaller dogs in which they replied, «You have to see what is in the book you’re looking at» Excuse me! We left in disgust.
The next time I visited this place I had hope that maybe my last visit was on an off day, this time I went in with my boyfriend. We had been living with each other for a year and wanted to adopt a kitten. I remembered this place as being rude, but i did remember they had quite the variety of cats. When we went in, same deal as last time. The staff was cold and unfriendly, unwelcoming. This time we showed interest in a lot of the adult cats, they still didn’t bother to treat us like real customers. My boyfriend and I are both 21 years old. They were giving us these vibes that they didn’t want to do business with us because they assumed we were irresponsible and young. If I can pay my rent, utilities, phone/​cable/​internet, cell phone, medical/​dental/​eye insurance, car insurance, gas, etc… plus the clothes on my back, you don’t have ANY right acting as if I am too young to take care of a pet. The last time I felt they discriminated my mother and I because we were looking for a dog, this time we were looking for a cat and they discriminated us because of our age??? I was livid but being 21, you’re used to people looking at you still like a child, and treating you differently in public situations. So my boyfriend and I bit our tongues and left.
Now lets fast forward now a year later. We managed to find a perfect kitten over the summer, he was everything we were looking for and he walked right up to us outside, we could not have been more thrilled because since our experience at Save-​A-​Pet, we were discouraged in going to other places and being proactive about finding a kitten, we basically gave up. So we were THRILLED when this little kitty claimed us as his owners! We called around looking to have him fixed. We ultimately decided to go with Save-​A-​Pet, despite our past experiences we figured «We’re not adopting, just having him fixed, what could go wrong?» Well I’ll tell you, from the second we got there the woman behind the counter had an attitude. The lady in front of us in line had an issue because they filled her information out on a different sheet and couldn’t find her appointment (PROFESSIONAL, RIGHT?) We noticed the hostility and rudeness immediately upon walking into the door. We waited patiently and finally it was our turn. She had seen us the WHOLE time standing there with our cat in a cardboard carrier. We had been told on the phone a week before that any carrier is fine, just as long as it’s not a cage. Well what do you know? We’re not allowed to use a cardboard pet carrier. The woman was rude and said she didn’t know why we would bring him in that type of carrier, considering he can fight his way out. He is so calm and sweet, he couldn’t even fight his way out from under a sheet! We explained to her we didn’t know that and we were not previously told it needed to be plastic. She continued with her unnecessary attitude and told us we spoke with her manager and she «doubts the manager wouldn’t have told us this» She was quick to move on to the next customer, acting like she didn’t have time to deal with us anymore. When we turned to walk out the door she came running from behind the counter to us asking us to schedule another appointment… again, rudely. And looked at us crazy when we said we would be going somewhere else. WHAT IS IT WITH THIS PLACE? Why are they always so RUDE!!! As if we would reschedule with you!

Inside Save A Pet, you will find these animals live better than some humans! Almost every cat has an individual large cage — which is ultra clean and includes a comfy high end bed! Wow! They also have a huge cat room, where they can lounge, hang on their many cat pillars, and even allows groups of kids to come in and get acquainted with the cats. They have many adorable cats and kittens for adoption. However, many of them have special needs, disorders, and other variety of health problems.
Save a Pet mostly have cats, about a good 75%, there are some dogs but they are more in the back room — where they do not have the amenities as the cats do. Do not expect to find many small breeds here, most are pit bulls, medium to large dogs. They too have special needs and/​or health problems.
They do have a price tag (adoption fees), you should call them and ask. But they are very selective, as they want to ensure these pets are going to right hands. For example, if everyone in the household is working and won’t be home for many hours — they will be reluctant to let you adopt.
But, if you are in need of a special friend, please come here and adopt a pet — instead of supporting many animal mills/​pet stores. If you really need a specific pet, please get them from private breeders as recommended from many pet forums. (like
