Jimi’s Tattoo & Body Piercing

Love this place! Very warm and welcoming people. My tattoo was drawn up amazingly and came out perfect. Very reasonable priced. We were vacation in Oxnard and I wanted a tattoo on our trip. I got an awesome starfish tattoo that couldn’t be more perfect. Thank you Jimi and crew– all the way from Minnesota.
As for the people saying they had a ‘creepy’ vibe. Please! Not once did I sense a creepy feel. Get over yourself!

So, you’re going to a tattoo parlor in Port Hueneme by the Seabee Base. You’re getting a tattoo on your lower back, and you’re asked to lower your pants or raise your shirt a little so the guy can do his job, and you’re unprepared for that? Could the «pervy vibe» be your own insecurities? Was something said or done to reinforce that opinion? I’ve known many women over the years that have gone there, sometimes alone, with zero complaints among them. Thats quite an accusation to arbitrarily lay on someone who’s been in business over 40 years. I have 2 of his tattoos on my forearms of my own design that have perfectly straight lines, awesome definition, long lasting bright colors, were executed exactly as requested, and never varied from the stencil I approved. If a tattoo place has a problem making changes to a stencil, then i’m outta there, pronto. I’ve only known Jimi to be professional, respectful and accommodating at all times, (and a helluva guitar player!) I’ve seen the local competition, and it ain’t pretty, so unless you’re prepared to drop the mortgage at Sunset or another L.A. hotspot, and granted their work is incredible, I’d strongly recommend you check him out. 4 stars because sometimes you have to wait for him to finish shredding some Ted (Nugent)in the back room before your appt.

I got my first tattoo here about 3 years ago and it was a small pink bow on my finger. It took about 5minutes. First of all they tattoed me while i sat down on a desk that was old and gross it didnt look clean at all. The tattoo came out okay but you can tell the outline is messed up on one side like how could you mess up such a small tattoo.

My uncle and my brother both got their first tattoos here eons ago, so when I got mine done in 2007 it was sort of like continuing a family tradition. Their tattoos have stood the test of time, and so has mine. I’m a typical California beach bum, in the sun all the time with minimal sunscreen, and my tattoo hasn’t faded or suffered any ill effects.
My mom took me to get it done, and she was pretty nervous. Jimi took the time to show her all the instruments they use, the needles in their packages, etc. to assure her that everything was clean and sanitary. I brought in a picture I drew of the wings that I wanted, and the artist did a beautiful job of rendering it how I had it. Since it was my first tattoo, Jimi did a line without ink first just so I could feel the sensation and know what I was getting into. He and the rest of his team really took the time to make me feel comfortable, and they joked with me and talked to me throughout the process to distract me. They also gave very clear, detailed instructions on after care, and they worked well because my tattoo still looks beautiful.
More than anything, I can’t speak to the «pervy vibe» some of the other reviewers got or the liberties Jimi took with their pictures because I was with my mom so obviously nothing like that was going to happen. Personally, I give Jimi’s five stars for the experience. They really took the time to make sure I was comfortable. If I ever decide to get another tattoo, I’ll definitely go back here.

They are very nice people. Good prices and good sense of humor. They try to give you exactly ehat you want.

I was interested in getting a piercing so I did a little Facebook research and found a pretty sweet deal of $ 20 for any piercing including jewelry. I saw pictures of this guys tattoo work and I go EW. He can’t tattoo for crap! However, I decided to check the place out.
STRIKE ONE: Called to get a piercing and I used its proper name. The guy I talked to didn’t even know what it was until I flat out said what body part it was on. You are a PROFESSIONAL tattoo and piercing shop you should know what the technical names for piercings.
STRIKE 2: I walked into the shop and it had a creepy vibe and weird smell. It didn’t exactly look like the cleanest place in the world.
STRIKE 3: Jimi is creepy as hell. I don’t understand why I even let him touch below the belt if you know what I mean.
STRIKE 4: one of the guys that work there started smoking a cigarette right next to me and was blowing it in my face. HOW RUDE!
Thankfully, my piercing turned out alright.
Unfortunately for Jimi, I will never go back.
However, if you don’t care about crappy tattoos or creep alarm jimi sets off and just care that your piercing looks okay… then by all means go here. However, if you do I highly recommend Bone Deep Tattoos. They might cost a little more but I definitely feel more comfortable walking in there than I do to jimis.

I got my first tattoo here 6 years ago and am still unhappy with it. I brought in an image with me of an art nouveau woman in a fabulous dress, but it was only half a woman. They (I believe it was Greg) drew up a sample finishing the dress, adding legs and feet to the woman. The drawing itself was amazing and I couldn’t wait to get it done. I went to Jimi’s because it had been voted Best Tattoo Parlor in Ventura County, I thought, «hey, all these people can’t be wrong!» Well, they kinda were.
It’s a fairly large piece on the bottom half of my back, and it took 6 hours and two sittings to do. I immediately felt the pervy vibe as some others had mentioned, but I thought, hey, he’s a tattoo artist, I’m not here to judge on character, I’m here for a tattoo. I should have listened to myself. Jimi took some artistic liberties with the woman and gave her huge Double D boobs when in the original drawing, and the stencil only had her with normal sized boobs. And the face, oh god, the face. The face has no distinguishable characteristics. It’s all just a mash of black lines. Her jaw, her neck, her nose, her lips, all just a MESS. No details, just messy. It breaks my heart. The first tattoo was extremely symbolic (as I’m sure most people’s tats are) and it’s all a mess. I hate showing it off, I hate spotting it in the mirror.
However, the dress is done very nicely, and the shading is done very well, and it has stood up very well in the past 6 years. (although I suspect because it never sees the light of day). I wanted to have it colored in when I first got it, but Jimi said that he couldn’t do the colors I wanted. He only had very bright colors, and all I could think, was «no way I’m getting these clown colors on this piece of art nouveau!» I stuck with just a black and grey tattoo and hope to find an artist somewhere that can color it the way I want it, fix those horrid Double D boobs that no one asked for, and that mess of a face.
Sure, go to Jimi’s for a tattoo, a brightly colored shape, or some classic old school tat; he seems to make lots of people happy. I’m not one of those people though. I wish I would have done more research and found someone who could accomplish the piece of art I wanted. Oh well.

Love Jimi’s I have several tattoos by him, and some from others. I took my daughter to Jimi for her first tattoo and have had no problems, would recommend Jimi with no hesitation. Jimi did my first tattoo in 1994 I moved back and brought my daughter in, in 2010 for her first tattoo. He remembered me, which tattoo I got and the tattoo and piercing of the two people with me back then. (I had not been there since the tattoo and was surprised that he remembered.) Thanks Jimi!

It seems that almost everyone that has a tattoo that I know has been to jimi’s and almost all of them have had a similar experience. I, of course had my first tattoo (back when I was inexperienced and a naïve 18 year old) and at that time there were slim pickings of tattoo shops around. First off jimi, isn’t the one drawing the tattoos, his brother is, he just traces them on :/​
Girls beware, if you get a tattoo you may be asked to remove or lower your pants and pull or lower your shirt far away from the spot that’s being tattooed and told it’s «in the way» He is also known for signing the tattoos with starbursts even if you say no… an old friend wanted regular stars and he thought these would look better… and I’ve seen the same thing on countless of people, perfect!
Also, he uses sharpies for marking where you will get pierced… um how do you sanitize a sharpie? bleh.
There are numerous of shops on main st in Ventura, I’m sure you can find a great artist. If you’re considering a tattoo and you’ve never had one before, research your artist, look at portfolios, talk to people with other tattoos similar to the style you’re looking for, just don’t walk in and point to something on the wall– it is forever!

I have two pieces from Jimi’s, a Seabee and a petroglyph. Both are clear, concise and still colorful as the day I got them. It was so good, I had it signed! Jimi’s is recognized all over the world in the military. I finished one piece and was able to catch a ride back to the base. Every deployment, Jimi’s adds a piece of artwork to commemorate.
