ABC 24 Hr Towing & Repair

My experience with these people was absolutely terrible, and I’m still not sure it wasn’t a scam due to their unprofessionalism.
On Saturday, 12/​26/​2015, my mom and I parked in the parking lot of the white plains stop and shop with the intention of going in. However, since it was near the Addicted to Ink Tattoo shop, we decided to stop in for some piercing cleaning supplies first before shopping in Stop and Shop. After ten minutes we came back to find a boot on our car (as well as several other cars). Right when we got there, a young girl with blonde hair carrying a clip board came over and informed us that we broke the rules by leaving the property. Similarly to the experiences of the people who left the other reviews, we explained that we were literally about to go into stop and shop but she kept saying we would need to pay.
This I understand; we did leave the property. However, this is where things got strange and started feeling off.
She asked us to open our car door so she could check the weight of the vehicle. We own a jeep, and she said since it was over a certain weight and was not considered a «compact car» it would be DOUBLE the usual price, making it $ 140 plus tax. This didn’t make sense to me — if our car was actually being towed, yes, weight would matter, but the boot on our car was the exact same as everyone else’s, so why should it cost more to have it removed? In addition, the signs around stop and shop did not say anything about the prices so they could have said anything and we would have been forced to pay it to be able to leave. It seemed very strange.
At this point we started feeling uneasy and asked the girl for some form of ID. She said «I can give you a business card» (which she did end up doing, but it said Mark on it and it honestly looked like something anyone could print at a staples), but my mom requested an employee ID. This is where things got even stranger– it was a complete 180 in her attitude, almost like she was spoked by the request. She immediately became extremely rude and literally began power walking away from us, telling us we can call ABC towing to confirm her identity or call the White Plains police department. My mom said «Okay, can we have your name?» And she absolutely refused to give it. When we called ABC towing to ensure this was real, even the man on the line asked for her name, and we didn’t have it because for some reason she refused to give it. He said to ask if her name was Kayla.
In the meantime, an older man (the one described by the others as wearing a dirty jeans and having rotted teeth) was walking around. He said to my mom «isn’t this unbelievable?» My mom asked him who he was, and he stated he was «just the guy who takes the boots off». This was even more confusing to us, because he seemed to be annoyed like us and trying to be friendly but he actually worked for ABC towing.
At this point, we were ready to go, so my mom and I were looking around for the young woman again. The man said she was in the truck (an unmarked truck like the others had described) and said he would get her for us. We waited about five minutes (we could see the truck) before walking over. Presumably because she was angry that we asked for employee Id, she was extremely rude and refused to look at our face. This is how the conversation went:
–after a moment of silence–
K: Can I help you?
Mom: are you Kayla?
K: Yeah
mom: we’ve been waiting for you by the car.
k: well I wasn’t by the car
Me: the man said he would get you to take our credit card.
K: why? He doesn’t take cards.
Me: But you take cards?
K: Yes
She then took our card and informed us we would get a receipt emailed to us (we did, but again it didn’t look official in any way). She didn’t look at us the entire time, and was very snippy. It was extremely unprofessional, and the man informed us as we walked away that «It’s her boyfriend’s business».
We finally left, and my mom called the White Plains Police Department to see if that was legitimate. It was, and even they expressed how awful these people are, but said they can’t do anything about it since Stop and Shop hires them as a private business. But we asked if there was a Kayla listed with them, and he said there wasn’t a Kayla on file, making this even shadier. We also called News 12, who said that they had received various inquiries into the professionalism of this business and will be investigating.
I still feel we got scammed. Again, I understand we did something wrong, and we were willing to pay, but the workers were so unprofessional and rude, and it was so weird how we couldn’t even get an employee id or a name without the woman freaking out. I would advise not going to this stop and shop in case you have the unfortunate run in with these people — it’s just not worth it.
UPDATE: DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE CHARGE MORE THAN $ 70! apparently the law is that it cannot be more than the stated price on the sign unless it’s a commercial vehicle!

This place first and foremost does not even deserve a star. Let me explain this clearly along with pictures that I have to support everything that happened:
I went to meet a friend at Westchester Burger Company and while their parking lot was alittle packed I know that you can park in Stop n Shop with a receipt from Westchester Burger. Great, I go park at Stop and Shop.
I walk to Westchester burger and waited for my friend to arrive, which she ended running late and I decided to cancel since it would be running into my schedule for the rest of the day. I walk back to my car no more than 30 minutes later to find a boot on my driver side tire. Seconds later I was approached by a man that said I had gotten the boot because I walked off the premises. I said wasn’t I allowed to park there because I actually went to Westchester burger? He actually agreed and said I’d have to speak to the person in charge. The person in charge was a rude young girl with blonde hair, a grayish torn up vest that began walking my way. I explained the situation and she said (jess or Jessica whatever her name was, who also didn’t want to give me her last name) I would have to still pay the 70 something dollars because I was not parked on the side where the sign was and I did not have a receipt. I went back to get my receipt from Westchester burger, my car was literally on the other side of the sign. She began avoiding me and walking in all other directions besides mine in order to address me. It was a back and forth thing until she finally decided to ask the guy standing next to me «Is she ready?» I was standing right there the whole time. I gave her the receipt and it still wasn’t good enough.
I was already upset because 1) My Plans were cancelled 2) it’s the day AFTER Christmas and you have nothing better to do than to give people boots for money and to top it off she began giving me sarcastic answers amongst avoiding me the whole time. I have pictures of everything. I paid the fine because I just wanted to get out of there already. I go to sign my name on the phone and she snatches it out of my hand. Nice, great customer service! Get a real job.
I called their office and the guy told me to call back tomorrow. I called my credit card company and they told me to get more information for my claim. I call back to get recieved by the rudest person on the phone. He kept giving false answers that I «admitted to» when all I said was so if I was in the spot in front of mine I wouldn’t have gotten a boot?” «He says there you go you got caught». No I didn’t agree to anything and then he says I don’t have time to go back and forth I have to tow a car, call back on Monday and argue with whoever is here. Unbelievable. I will be pursuing this case and it’s unbelievable that they would think its okay to do this on false accounts.

First off, if I could give less than 1 star I would.
My brother in law owns a towing company and I have nothing against people doing their job, but at least be professional about it.
The woman Michelle something booted my car and was extremely rude to me to the point of laughing in my face. She refused to give me her name. I had to ask her partner. He refused to give me her last name.
As the previous comment says they are EXTREMELY sketchy. I wasn’t sure I wanted to give them anything besides a call to the police. They sit in an unmarked car and boot you and say it’s $ 74 and change to get it off but they only accept cash. They did not offer a receipt. I thought they were just hillbillies that brought boots to a parking lot.
The female — Michelle — practically bum rushed me at my car and blew her cigarette smoke in my face and told me I parked illegally and got a boot. I asked how much it would be and said it won’t happen again. She laughed at me and told me the amount. I asked who she worked for and she looked confused as if I was speaking another language all of a sudden. I gave her my money after more smoke was blown in my face and then a man with rotting teeth and tattoos took off the boot. He was not as rude as Michelle.
After I was going to leave I decided to tell her «thanks for blowing your smoke in my face — that’s really professional of a tower.» And she simply replied with «no problem. Any time!» And gave me the thumbs up. I stopped my car and called over the male. I told him what happened and asked for a receipt and who they worked for. He didn’t seem to want to tell me either. And he didn’t want to get me a receipt. I told him I didn’t want to go to the female because she was so rude and would keep blowing her cigarettes in my face. Finally he got the receipt for me. When he came back I asked for their names. He wouldn’t give me them. He said they’re on the receipt. Only one name was on it but it was a signature that consisted of two letters so I told him to tell me her name because I couldn’t read it and she was the only one I cared about that that point. He told me her name was Michelle.
I immediately called their company to file a complaint against her. The woman I spoke to told me «maybe if you learned how to read people wouldn’t talk down to you.» In the nastiest voice I’ve ever heard. I was appalled. I told her no one deserves smoke in their face. Especially when they have family who have died from lung cancer from smoking. Which I do. I ended up hanging up.
This was the absolute worst towing company I have ever heard of and dealt with. I hope they go out of business or at least hire a new staff and work more professionally. I’m sure they will be going no where with their lives though and be towing cars for all eternity and I’m fine with that.

I received a boot on my car in the CVS parking lot of North White Plains from an unmarked car that had no labels identifying it as being affiliated with ABC Towing. They also use generic receipts that are simply stamped with «ABC Towing» and are the same type you can buy at CVS or Staples for any business — even a lemonade stand on your front lawn or a tag sale! Totally unprofessional.
Also, the gentleman who booted my car did not care that I was using the business in which I was parked (CVS) in addition to another location (the post office next door). He said the fact that I used a business other than CVS while parked there (even if it was for less than five minutes) was justification to boot my car. Apparently the manager instructed them to do so. I also Unilocal!reviewed that CVS (at 601 North Broadway, North White Plains) to be fair.
Conveniently, he only takes cash (so if you only have credit cards, you’re out of luck) and he also conveniently accepts $ 70 when the quoted amount is $ 70.44 including tax. Allegedly. This business sketches me out.
tl;dr — negative review due to shady business practices that would stop me from using them or any company they «represent» in the future. Towing is a justifiable action for a business, but a business should use a professional company that identifies itself as such on business correspondence (such as receipts) and enforces a uniform amount for the same infraction. ABC Towing fails in both these respects.
