Steak ‘n Shake

If you got an hour to spare, use the drive through. The guy at the speaker really makes you feel like he’s isn’t even there. Really awesome.
Also if you don’t like your card and you want it to be swiped a hundred times out of spite go here

Ridiculous lack of customer service. Three groups of people ahead of us waiting in lobby and all wait staff going out of their way to avoid even looking at the wait list, which we had put ourself on. No hostess and 2 people had stepped out for break… At 6:45 — prime dinner time. Apparently no one to bus tables and no one willing to step in. We left after 10+ minutes of absolutely no acknowledgement.

The worst Steak ‘n Shake place ever. There wait is for ever!!! When I went last time they served me straight carbonation!!! When I asked for water. And the food always comes out wrong. Have to wait forever on servers. If you eat here it’ll take a good 2hrs or more. And the drive through is so long of a wait I had enough time to write this review… Pathetic. I’ve always had problems with this place.

I’ve been coming to this location every December since I can remember (about 20 years) and this year it has really gone down hill, it has always been very clean but this year the floors are sticky, the servers and rude and the bathrooms look like a bomb went off. I love Steak N Shakes and will not stop going to other locations, but I’ll probably go to Culvers from now on as I’m sure that new building won’t look like and smell like a barn.

This is my favorite place to eat when I visit Florida! I fly out often from Los Angeles to Florida to visit my dad and the first place I ask him to take me to eat is steak and shake. They have the best burgers in town! Their shakes are amazing as well, there are so many different flavor a to choose from. I can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner here it’s that good. The ladies that work there are always so nice and friendly and always take a minute to talk to my dad and I. The price for this delicious food is so cheap. I always look forward to coming to this location. Great customer service!

this was my first time back at this steak and shake in 6 years and I still love it.
You can’t beat the prices — they have a menu specifically for their $ 4 meals which includes fries!
If you’re looking for a great milkshake, this is the place to go. they even have side by sides which mix two flavors (strawberry, chocolate, banana and vanilla) but there are so many others to choose from too including Oreo and Nutella.
The burgers (made with steak) are delicious and so are the buns they come on. My only suggestion is to order the double burger if your hungry because the burger itself isn’t huge.
Also shoutout to our waitress Fannie — she was so pleasant and patient with my 78 year old aunt.

Took my son today for a quick bite. It was mostly empty and our waitress was personable. Food came out within a reasonable amount of time.
However, the quality and cleanliness of the establishment leave a lot to be desired. The ketchup bottle was greasy and the table had dried up food stains that were under our menus as we were seated so I didn’t notice until after we ordered drinks. The food itself was forgettable, nothing special, in fact it was reminiscent of heating up leftovers.
Sadly the filthy environment and low quality food ensures this is an establishment I will never visit again.

this place is a JOKE we were seated and 30 minutes later still nothing until I decided I should say something which i finally got one of the servers or what ever they are called and asked what is taking so long to get a simple hamburger order and fish sandwich order. TO MY SURPRISE THE ANSWER WAS THE FIRST I HAVE EVER HEARD IN 60 YEARS OF GOING TO SOME KIND OF A RESTAURANT OR WHAT EVER THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE, here is the answer your going to love this: «Your waitress is on break»!OH and we are very busy! Now that just floored me so waitress goes on break so now screw the customer they have to wait have you ever heard of such nonsense as this? I never have, and being its SOME KIND OF A EATING ESTABLISHMENT I would say ONE MILLION PERCENT UNACCEPTABLE. Then she also said they were very busy ! MY question is you have never been busy before? Wow if there is indeed a manager there which I could not find he, she should be fired NOW! He or she needs to know whats is going on and make a effort to make sure the lines of communication are always open or why is she or he in a management position a 12 year old would know better. This has to be one of my biggest disappointments of any eating establishments in my life what a joke. I strongly recommend you avoid this place as there CAN not be a worse place in PORT CHARLOTTE FL I will admit it was only $ 15.00 of which I should of not payed BUT I DID FIRST AND LAST TIME!

Milk shakes take forever to come out. Never with the food. The managers have their heads up their asses. The place runs like shit… Total mess.
The food is cheap and isn’t half bad. Happy hour is half off milkshakes. However, nothing happens fast here.

Well… I am going to chalk this one up to a bad night with staff and shortage but I don’t know that for sure. We waited 45 mins to get our order. Shakes didn’t come out early… came about 2 mins before the food. 2 of our burgers were not right which were corrected only by bringing condiments to the table vs making the burgers right. The check was dropped off at the same time our food was and we never saw our server again. Food wasn’t bad and the shakes were good but the service and customer concern was bad. One guy near where we were sitting threatened to leave or punch the cooks lights out if he didn’t get his food soon. So we weren’t the only ones having a bad experience which leads me to believe that it was a bad night staffing wise and they were trying to make the most of it. When I calmly spoke to the manager while paying… she knocked a couple of meals off and gave us some coupons for future visits but you could clearly tell she was at the end of her rope and the shift couldn’t get done soon enough. We will go back maybe… only in town a few more days… but chalking this experience up to just a bad night.

I have been to many Steak N Shakes and will NEVER go to this one again. The first time we went was a busy friday night and we got there 45 minutes before the rush. It took over an hour to get our food. I knew it was going to be Bad when i saw the black/​white checkboard floor was nearly all black from lack of cleaning. I ended up with horrible stomach cramps for 2 days after eating. The second and final time we webt was a Wed. Around 1−2pm. There was 3 tables of 3 – 4 people there already with food and 7 – 8 servers. It took 5 minutes for us to be acknowledged and sat down. Then another 10 minutes for our waitress to show up to take our drink orders. Then 10 more minutes for the drinks to show up. Meanwhile during all of this waiting, all of the employees were goofing off behind the servers station which was right beside our booth. Finally after being here for 45 – 55 minutes our food finally arrived… Cold… And the small milkshake we ordered for a 3 year old came as a large bc it was «accidently» made that way AND the check was left on the table when the food arrived and our waitress never to be seen again. Oh that small milkshake, it wasnt an accident it became a large, she rang it up that way!
Now well past an hour to eat at this place i go to pay. I then stand there for 15! Minutes waiting for someone to come take my money, meanwhile at least FIVE employees walk up to the cash register and get change and turn around and walk away. Not one of them acknowledged me waiting or bothered to tell anyone that someone was waiting.
I should of just walked out with a bill for them wasting my time on the bill for my food.
Needless to say, if you enjoy shitty food, bad/​non existant service, horrible cleanliness, probablt food poisioning and long wait times, this Steak N Shake location is the perfect place for you!
For everyone else, go somewhere else.

DONT GO THRU THE DRIVE THRU. And forget about getting in and out quickly. We went thru the drive thru twice in one week… for shakes only. Took around 10 minutes each time to get thru the drive thru.
The third time was the charm of all charms… too many cars in the drive thru so we made the crap decision of going inside to order 2 shakes… and it took 25 minutes! I almost walked out but couldnt because I had already paid.
Shakes are good but not worth the wait. This is a «fast» food joint but not quick at all. If you are extremely patient I’d give it a shot but otherwise, go elsewhere. Can’t say how the food since all I had from there was a shake. Not impressed and walked out very irritated.

Don’t go thru the Drive-​Thru, Don’t go thru the Drive-​thru, unless you have an extra 10−15min. to spare. That’s with no other cars in the Drive-​thru. Workers have told me the same thing, and it was from more than one employee. When we go inside, besides being chaotic and times, the food is quite good. Great place to take kids and families especially if they like to make noise. I don’t know why the drive-​thru is even there if you ask me. Prices are good for what you get, and the service and staff are friendly.

took forever get my food. when got it was cold and mushy and WRONG. when asked for the rest of the ingredients it was suppose to come with still came out wrong and added pickle. not a restaurant environment. a fast food joint, but with waitress/​waiters. Had to pay at counter. Dirty.

I’d have ro say this place is just «ok».
I don’t care for the fries, they’re the skinny matchstick type and no matter what they’re never going to be piping hot the way I like my fries. They don’t give u many either. The shakes were good but not line you’d get at a malt shop. I only went
here because my MIL likes it. To many good burger places around. Is skip this one.

What a horrible experience and meal! Took over 30 minutes to get our meal and when it came it was wrong. Not only that, but the bacon was like shoe leather and the «Farm Fresh» scrambled eggs looked and tasted like a rubber chicken.
We’ve had such terrible experiences and food at restaurants lately, that I’m swearing off restaurants forever. These people should be ashamed of what their serving because it isn’t food or anything I would even feed a dog! I’m sick of eating crap at these restaurants! How are they getting away with it? Do people just not care what they get anymore???

I have been eating at this chain since my college days at Rollins College. Then an old worn place the concept has renewed it’s shine. Service once sling and toss, is now awesome at most locations.
The food is timeless comfort, fries are awesome! The Frisco melt still a menu favorite and the shakes are a 1950’s treat that are 2010 crack cocaine.
