JD’s Bistro & Grille

One of the very best in Charlotte County. Great for those special nights out. Music is great and so is the service. Steaks are exception.

The jazz was fun and great talent. The goat cheese and eggplant were great menu options. But:
Sorry to say, but the dining area smelled like sour toilet. Literally. Nauseating.
Service was spotty and the server’s attitude was clearly and unapologetically apathetic. No welcome, no introduction, no suggestions, no specials. We had to ask for several things including water refills and it was as though we were putting her out. Maybe she was stressed without enough help (understaffed), but this was not what a restaurant experience should be like, expensive or not. She got mildly friendly at the end (tip time?) though.
Our table was disappointed.

Stopped in for a bite to eat while visiting Port Charlotte with a group of 4 and this place was simply ridiculous. The waiter was great, music was awesome and the food was in a league of its own. This place rates top five all time on my list of many restaurants. If you like amazing food, good music and great service there’s no better place that I can recommend in the Port Charlotte area. Gotta try the filet mignon and the apple crisp. There is no doubt that I would make a special trip to Port Charlotte just to go to this bistro!

Let me start with an apology! After the Manager read my review he contacted me and asked for more information. I thought this was great follow up by the way! When he saw our receipt, he immediately knew what has happened! The glass of wine that I had was called BREAD AND BUTTER!!! Well after I wiped the egg off my face (which they didn’t charge me for either! Haha!) I apologized to him! He assured me that they do not and will never charge for bread and butter! And they where going to correct the way that the Bread and Butter WINE was listed on their receipts! So dear people, PLEASE ignore my stupidity and go to this fabulous restaurant! You will not be disappointed!

Very upscale place. Great music nitely and neat bar menu. Reservations recommended. Lamb good hearty salads. Prime rib very good. Staff very helpful. Bread and oil was addictive and delicious.

Had Christmas Eve dinner and 3 out of the 4 meals were good. My wife ordered the small cut of the prime rib medium rare. It came out too rare. Meanwhile the rest of the table had our meals and they were fine. She sent the prime rib back and it came back over cooked which should have been caught by the chef and the waiter but was served. My wife chose to keep it because everyone else was well into their meal and didn’t want to wait for another meal. She just couldn’t eat it and left most of it on the plate. You guys definitely dropped the ball on this one and could have been handled much better. We have always recommended this place but not sure we will anymore. We even had to pay for it which was the clincher. Maybe we should have complained but that’s just not our style. It’s a shame because there is not a lot of good choices for fine dining in Charlotte county and now one less.

Great every time. Friendly staff, excellent dinner music and entertainment. While many locals like myself consider downtown Punta Gorda to be the restaurant scene, JD’s really is the best high end meal in town.

This is certainly not an everyday type place as it is pretty expensive but the food was phenomenal. I took my company here for a meeting and the bill was close to 50 bucks per person.
It looks like a dive from outside but it is actually a very nice place.
I can say that the band that was playing was absolutely awesome. My daughter danced and danced to the live band and the band interacted with her pretty constantly throughout the evening. For a 3 year old this was a dream come true. This happened over a month ago and she is still talking about it.

Second time we have visited this restaurant and it is great. The ambience is so romantic and comfortable. Both times the service and food have been exceptional. The entertainment has been top notch each time and although a bit pricey it’s well worth it.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday with 5 friends. We all had a fabulous time. The osso bucco pork I ordered was so delicious. Love the atmosphere – felt like we were at a restaurant in Chicago on Rush Street or in Manhattan. This restaurant is by far the one to visit when you are looking for a great meal and time. The band/​singer were terrific, singing «our kind» of music. Yes, it is a little pricey, but well worth it for all the amenities as far as ambiance and great food. We will definitely make this our place to celebrate special occasions. It has to be the classiest place in Port Charlotte and surrounding citites.

Absolutely perfect evening! amazing food & entertainment

It’s really 4 ½ stars. Ambiance, & décor is very pleasant and inviting. For a higher end restaurant, we felt the prices were competitive. One person in our group ordered the white mussels, which were fabulous. One other ordered the Venison, which was cooked perfectly rare with a raspberry sauce. Served w/​asparagus & potatoes too. Over the top delicious !!! I ordered the Beef Carpaccio w/​truffle oil. I must say, I don’t care much for Truffle oil because of the «musty» aftertaste but this was lightly drizzled and it did blend with the arugula very nicely. I enjoyed it and would order it again. Our only negative… The trio playing music that Thursday 5÷21÷2015, night was playing WAY TOO LOUD. We had 4 people in our group and we could hardly hear each other speak across the table. We were seated in the middle of the room. When they took a break, we all took a sigh of relief because the music was a good blend, just too loud. We all would go back again.

Absolutely the nicest restaurant on Port Charlotte. Our dinner included fabulous mussels, pork osso bucco that was sublime & wonderful chocolate torte & crime brûlée. Good wine list, great jazz-​that kid can sing ala Buble & dare I say Frank?

Made a res for 730 Mgt called and asked me to change to 745. Got there and seated. Waited 5 minutes with no response from anyone. Got our own pitcher of water, still no server. Drank a glass of water and left. Very disappointed. At those prices, expected much better. Won’t be returning

We have dined here many times and the food and the live jazz gets better every time. Highly recommended. We are from NY and very picky foodies! You have to try it!

Brought some friends here that have never been, wasn’t as impressed as the first time but it was still overall very good. We were able to get an early reservation before a comedy show, be sure to make reservations on the weekends. The mussels were as amazing as the first time I’ve had them, the biggest disappointment of the night was the ahi tuna appetizer, was NOT fresh, was completely 100% frozen, bland and awful. Our guests enjoyed their duck very much, my fiancé also enjoyed the scallops while I decided on the peppercorn New York strip steak. Service was a little slower this time, but the live music of course was excellent.

JD’s never disappoints.
My husband and I have eaten there several times and each meal is consistently delicious. Although it is a bit pricey the hospitality, cleanliness, entertainment and wonderful food make up for it.
Our last dinner there we noticed a couple with a child who was probably 6 – 7 yrs old.
Although JD’s does not discriminate against children let me just say… this chid was obviously bored! He did not stay in his seat and was an obvious distraction to the patrons.
PARENTS please do us a favor and take your child to «child friendly «restaurants, there are plenty of them out there.
That being said JD’s is the best place for a wonderful dinner!!!

Another great meal at JD’s with wonderful music. Excellent food, I ordered bouillabaisse and asked they hold the calamari, which they did. It was delicious, the Martini was good, a good wine list for my sister. We like it here so much we are making it a tradition. Whenever we come to visit our mom we go to JD’s. Danny our server was warm and fun. And if you love the great American Songbook, this is the place to eat and listen to the music! I love the supper club atmosphere!

My wife picked me up at the airport on a Tuesday evening and we stopped here for dinner. We got a nice table at the back. She ordered the yellow tail snapper. I was tired and just repeated my order last time. Again the food was excellent, the snapper was just right, not mushy and delicately flavored. Nice dinner once again.
