OK, first things first, I’m biased. I grew up eating great BBQ in Broward county. From the original Sonny’s BBQ on SR84, to the Georgia Pig on Davie Road to the original Tom Jenkin’s BBQ stand that was set up in the parking lot of a gas station on the weekends. So I tend to have two categories for BBQ, 1. Really, really good(4 stars or more) or 1 star for everything else that tastes like a McRib. Being hearing people rave about The Hog and got excited about the idea of good BBQ, but I was also fully aware that most people haven’t tasted actual BBQ in Broward in the last 20 years. They are the same people talking about how great the seafood is at Red Lobster. Well if you know what real BBQ is and have lived here long enough to remember it, or you are from someplace that still does real BBQ this is the only review you need to read. Real BBQ doesn’t exist here. Not sure exactly what they did to the ribs, the only thing I know for sure they didn’t do was smoke them properly. Got the Baby Back ribs and they are actually worse than what is served at Chili’s and those are horrible. Not sure how you manage soggy baked beans, but they have them. One of my favorite things to eat and I had a couple bites and just tossed them. Got the seasoned fries, they were also a horrible, soggy mess that tasted bad. I often ask myself«How can you screw up french fries?»…sadly I’ve been getting the answer more and more. If you love good BBQ, or even just enjoy average BBQ, this isn’t for you. This is for people who think putting Heinz BBQ sauce on some ribs they just cooked in the oven constitutes BBQ. In fact some oven ribs with some Heinz BBQ sauce probably would taste better.

The food is really good, fresh and authentic bbq, we got the party meal and there was so much food that we couldn’t even finish it, they serve really good portion sizes. Service is amazing the girls there really try to give the best of them, the only reason I am giving 4 stars is because the location is not desirable for me, but if you are craving good bbq place this is worth to try.

Ordered beef brisket with fries and baked beans. Fries are great, beans were good, beef brisket was… not like any beef brisket I have ever had. And it was recommended by the server out of two choices I asked her about… It’s very thinly sliced and seems to have been boiled or something and then steamed maybe before being plated??? Absolutely no flavor to the meat. There was nothing BBQ about it. Except for the sauce they squirted on top. The longer it sat on the plate the more water pooled underneath it on the plate! I took half home with me but it just sat in the fridge uneaten… BF had the BBQ pulled pork. It was pretty good but a little dry even with all the sauce. Kids had chicken finger meals. They loved it of course. Nothing special just your typical chicken tenders. We also had a single rib each just to try them. I think they were boiled and then fried and then drenched in sauce. Not the best. The atmosphere and the workers are great. A little more effort needs to be put in the food and this would be a great place. I had a Philly there once before late at night and it was yummy but my BF and I were sick the next day. Not sure if it was the food or just a coincidence. I want to like it because I live a few blocks away but I’m not sure if I’ll be giving it another shot.

Awesome smoked wings that you can have them grill or fry too. Their ribs are fabulous also. They just added Lemon Pepper Wings to their menu. Tangy!

Best baked beans and have heaps of cool sauces you can slather on your bbq. Kids eat free on saturdays too. Staff were very friendly and good service

I found this place on Unilocal and knew I wanted to try it. I felt like having BBQ this past Sunday and my BF told me that their food is really good. I’m so happy that I tried this place! People rave about the mac and cheese aside from amazing BBQ of course. When we arrived, we were greeted and felt welcome. We were told we can sit where we like and so we sat at the high top table. The waitress was really nice and definitely suggested their Sunday special. The special is 9.99, ONLY9.99. What a deal! I’m so glad we had their special, as it included three wings, ribs and a filler. The wings are smoked with their dry rub and then tossed in the sauce of your choosing. The wings happen to be some of the best I’ve ever had! You can add as little or as much sauce on them to your liking. Their ribs are so juicy, flavorful and tender and fall off the bone. We had fries and their homemade potato salad as the fillers(sides). We ordered a large mac and cheese to share and it was creamy, cheesy and really delish! The entire meal was more than enough food for the two of us; we ended up taking some home. We even found out the former owner of Spanky’s runs this place; which is why they also have cheese steaks on their menu. We will definitely be back to not only have the cheese steaks from the man himself but because it’s just really good BBQ.

The meats are not infused with the rich smoked taste of most BBQ places. I found the sauces to be overwhelmingly mediocre. What’s up with the one average side dish and a tiny why bother side dish? It makes no sense. You would be better off avoiding this place if you are a true fan of BBQ

I had a pretty good experience there. Had a pulled pork sandwich and was tasty. Décor is perfect for the place and wait staff is very nice. BBQ sauce was also quite tasty. All in all was a nice experience. I would come back and try some more items.

Boiled ribs, frozen and baked wings. Not real barbque, should’ve known as there’s no smoke.

Wanted to really like it but have to say the food was just OK. I had the Grazer, a sampler BBQ plate with ribs, pulled pork, and wings. Meat comes dry with sauce on the table. The BBQ sauce was sugary sweet. The ribs were good but everything else was just OK. Service was friendly but overwhelmed and disorganized so everything took forever. Overall OK food if you like sweet BBQ with an OK price.

I’m so glad I found this place!!! I love good BBQ and this is it!!! The ribs fall off the bone and have a sweet tangy BBQ sauce that is awsome. The beans and mac and cheese are out of this world. The staff is ALWAYS nice and it’s easy, convient and $$ friendly. Great menu with lots of options. Try the mango BBQ sauce it amazing!!! (but they shouldn’t charge extra for it) I would recommend this place to anyone that’s tired of all the«other» BBQ restaurants here in Pompano beach that are over priced with bad service and yucky food!

Being a BBQ fanatic, I just had to stop at spanx. Upon walking in we were greeted by a lovely waitress, and waited for the server. While waiting I looked around and enjoyed the rustic atmosphere and country music. The server came over and walked us through the menu quickly, I was hesitant to begin with but proceeded to order. I got the half rack or ribs and my girlfriend had the small sampler. I was VERY disappointed with both dishes so much that we didn’t finish anything. The meat lacking on a multitude of levels. First, they claim BBQ but it should be labeled soggy ribs and dry pulled chicken. Second, the sauce tastes store bought, and the Mac and cheese was velveta. However the ONE small positive was the collard greens(warmer then the Mac and cheese). Needless to say we will never return to this establishment. Maybe I’m being too picky but I grew up with BBQ, it entails a smoker with with fresh wood and fire and succulent and crispy meat. This place has none of the above. This is boiling meat at its absolute WORST! Don’t be fooled by the sign people if you don’t smell smoke don’t try the food !

They do not have BBQ here it’s all steamed /baked meat and it is gross. I would never go back here again. Just be a grill and don’t try to portray an image of serving BBQ. We have it two chances and when we are the last time — not a single person at our table(6 of us) had anything positive to say about the quality/taste/of the food — nothing!!!

It’s a nice looking place but the tables and chairs are super uncomfortable. That shouldn’t be a problem though since you should definitely skip this place. The food is so bad. It looks and tastes like they don’t make anything themselves. They probably just heat things up. Food took forever and was very disappointing. This was puzzling since the place is mostly empty. It looks like the only people coming here are people that perhaps know the owners. They were all walking around like it was their living room. Do yourself a favor and go to Blue Willy’s down the street. We only tried this place because they had sold out.

Tried this friendly strip mall home-style BBQ spot. I opted for heir«special»(I think it was appropriately called«when pigs fly»): a chicken breast topped with shredded pork sandwich. Wow, this former vegetarian pigged out and enjoyed every bite slathered with my generous squeeze of BBQ sauce. The chicken was tasty as it was rubbed with some tasty seasonings that spruced it up. Good menu, good food, a casual southern atmosphere and classic sweet tea. A-OK sums it up nicely.

Located at the end of a little strip mall is The Hog, a barbeque restaurant. Once you step inside you’ll find a sort of western, might I say Texas type of décor about the place, plenty of big round wooden tables that look like those huge spools that the electric companies use to wrap and transport cable wires, western type of country background music, a selection of three sauces(all rather tasty), some hot sauces and a roll of paper towels. There are three large flat screens on one wall, what looks like the stuffed head of long horn bull on a support beam along with various other western decorative items. A couple of nice pluses are that the there is plenty of parking in the parking lot, it’s located in a safe neighborhood and the place is spotlessly clean. As for food and drink, they only have beer by the bottle but a rather decent selection. I had the ribs which are sold not by the rack or the half rack but by the bone at $ 1.50/bone. Ordering by the bone was something new to me but I really like the idea. Figuring that there are about 14 bones to the rack, it enables you to order just about the right amount for a snack, a lunch or a full meal. Though you can order them with spicy or sweet sauce I ordered mine dry then applied my own sauce from the three on the table in order to have some variety. My ribs came as order, dry, and had a perfect, just the right taste of smoke about them. As sides, the coleslaw was also good as were my collard greens. Since I arrived at an off hour, around three o’clock in the afternoon I wasn’t surprised that I was the only patron but it gave me a chance to speak with the new owners who had just taken over The Hog in May. In speaking with them and later on with others it would seem that The Hog has improved with changes in recipes and as for service, really nice and friendly.
