B Bryan Preserve

Great experience. Friendly staff. You ride around in land rovers, feed giraffes leaves off of branches, and see antelope and Zebras. It is privately owned. Not sure what accommodations they are able to make for people who need mobility devices. There are stairs involved in feeding the giraffes but they are momentarily viewable from outside as well (they go inside for feeding).

Absolutely fantastic place. Cathy Sue was our guide and we were the only ones on the tour so it was very up close and personal. What a great cause underway here. The giraffes are amazing! The folks here are clearly knowledgeable and care about what they are doing. The animals are treated very well and the tour very informative! We did not stay in the accommodations but now that we’ve been, we may just try that next time. Thanks again for an absolutely great day!

The tour was fantastic. My daughter got to pet a baby zebra and my husband fed a giraffe. The love these people have for the animals shines through everywhere.
It’s a short drive to either the Point Arena lighthouse or Pier if you’d like to spend time near the ocean as well. If you’re looking for a weekend retreat, this is it. Loved it.

We had a great day at the preserve viewing the zebras, antelopes & giraffes with our 10 year old grandson. The tours were a good length of time & the guides were knowledgeable, friendly & helpful.

We had the most amazing experience here today! Our tour guide Cathy Sue was so knowledgeable and fun! I learned so much about the different types of zebras and giraffes and even got to check off a box on my bucket list (and my son did too)! Absolutely incredible. It is very clear to me that they love their animals and they are well taken care of. We will definitely come back and we recommend going; it’s very educational! Thanks again Cathy Sue and Judy!!!

If you care about animals, don’t go. My sense is that these animals are not meant to thrive in cold temperatures of in-​land around Point Arena. They don’t look healthy nor happy. This felt very much like a $-centered business, and we definitely got creeped out by the owner, who, I thought, was a pretty weird character. Besides the tour was not cheap, and on top of that he spent a bunch of time trying to sell us t-​shirts, all sorts of other gimmicky stuff.

Absolutely incredible! Had such an excellent experience with my family, and the hospitality was outstanding. The zebras, giraffes and antelopes (and a goat!) are all loved and well taken care of, the entire palace is truly a hidden gem!

Truly a unique experience.
The Preserve is by far one of the coolest places I’ve ever stayed. After the first morning cooking breakfast in the kitchen it was time for a soak in the hot tub. Looking over to my right from the hot tub what do I see? All the giraffe looking back at me. One of the coolest parts of the experience however, is going on the tour and getting to know about the preserve and all the animals that live on the property. The conservation they take part in is amazing. And not just a giraffe preservation but that is definitely one of the highlights for me. Such giant but gentle animals I love them all.
The cabin that we stayed in was rustic in some ways, it did however have all the amenities you could desire for a weekend away. Beautiful stained glass windows, a nice kitchen with a mini fridge and a stove. The hardwood floor looked old and well worn. There’s a tiny little fireplace a TV with a Direct TV hookup that we never turned on. The place is pretty much perfect. I got to meet the owners whilst on the tour. I really can get behind what they’re trying to do. It appears to me that it’s a passion not only for the owners but all who work there.

What a very special place. The owners have dedicated themselves to creating a preserve for some of the world’s endangered animals. This is a preserve, not a zoo. And while I have never been to a safari park and a real safari is out of my price range, this tour was up close and personal, not to mention touchy-​feely at times. Our tour guide was Cathy, one of the owners. Her knowledge and love for the animals was wonderful. We were a small group in a vintage Land Rover. The tour began with a great talk about the different species and their unique natures and habits. Then we got to pet a young zebra. Zebras being zebras, and emphatically not desirous of human companionship, this may soon end with his adulthood. We visited several enclosures of kudu, zebras and antelope. The highlight at the end was getting to feed and pet the group of awesome male giraffes. Those who wanted a giraffe kiss could hold a slice of yam in their mouth for the giraffe to take with his long purple tongue. I got squeamish about giraffe sloppy kissing and didn’t do it. Now I have to go back.

GO GO GO GO GO and experience B Bryan Preserve. I just finished my MBA and treated myself to a week in Mendocino. I can’t rave enough about this part of California. I saved the preserve for the second to last day up north. Cathy Sue was AMAZING. She answered all of our questions and I really felt the love that she has for all the animals. My friend and I were the only ones on the tour. We got to pet a Zebra and fee a Giraffe. Experiencing these beautiful animals in a safe and loving environment is so special. This is a labor of love by all involved. I can’t stop raving about my experience to everyone in Los Angeles. Even thinking about another trip to one of the cottages next time.

A great escape from city life.
We stayed in one of the cottages — arrived late on Friday night. A map and instructions to reach our cottage were waiting for us. We were happy to have a cozy place to stay after a long drive. The wood burning stove adds a nice touch (there’s also a heater, if you prefer to go all modern with your heating situation). The tour was great — I learned about animals I didn’t know existed (and in some cases may be extinct in the next decade). The owners were informative and passionate about their cause. Thanks for making our weekend memorable!

We stayed at the Bridge Cottage for two nights and took the tour twice. The cottage is beautifully and meticulously decorated. It is filled with antiques and gorgeous pictures of the animals. The jacuzzi tub is decadent and overlooks a pond. It was the perfect way to end the day. You get to see the zebras, antelopes and giraffes in their natural state. The tour allows you to touch a Grevys Zebra and feed giraffes. It was an incredibly unique experience. I would like to return :)

Spent two nights in the amazing Chapel Cottage and enjoyed all three of the tours we booked, each one was a different experience. It is just such a relaxing place to stay, the cottage has every comfort from soft linens and towels, a fully set up kitchen and frig so you can make some or all of your meals there, to blankets to throw over your lap as you sit on the porch in the morning with your coffee and enjoy the internet access. It was perfect and I can not wait to go back. In the evenings we enjoyed dinner within walking distance in the town and even a movie at the fully restored theater one night, and the other we cooked dinner with food purchased locally and enjoyed the satellite tv. while watching the lights change the cottages amazing stained glass windows as the sun set. Don’t miss Frannys for coffee and pastries in the morning. The beaches are beautiful but you could spend all day looking out over the pond and water lilies and relaxing with a book if you wanted to just relax.
The owners and staff are passionate about what they do and the love and care shown to the animals that live here will touch your heart. For those who feel that the message of conservation is harsh and the staff is not welcoming enough, please realize that this is not a zoo, and they have a mission here to try and increase the population of these amazing animals and are serious about it. We did not feel this way at all, and loved every staff member we met, learning something new from each of them.

you do break up into two groups for both vehicles. we chose to go into the Non children vehicle (and we made the right chose) nothing wrong wrong with children. love them really. but not screaming in my and not behaved.

the love that they both have for these animals shows with how they care and want to educate everyone.

a nice way to get off the grid for a bit…

To celebrate my 40^th birthday, I decided to go «off the grid» for a couple days with two friends. As beautiful as the scenic drive up the coast from San Francisco was, it paled in comparison to my experience at B. Bryan Preserve.
Our visit started with a tour, which was educational and highly entertaining. After teaching us about their various types of animals and highlighting the importance of conservation, the staff drove us around the 100+ acres in classic Land Rovers, from which we observed zebra, antelope, and giraffe enjoying the wide expanses of land around them. Along the way, we got to pet a zebra as it was being fed, stand in a field as roaming zebra surrounded us to check us out, AND FEED AND KISS A GIRAFFE. There is nothing like watching a gentle giant lower its head to take the food you’re offering, or looking up at it after it gives you an even gentler smooch.
Following the tour, we checked into the Chapel Cottage and were excited to learn that it was located on the preserve itself, just outside of the giraffe enclosure. After unloading the car and taking my first steps into the place, I immediately saw that its pictures do not do the cottage justice. Built by the owners themselves, every detail has a story and leaves you with a sense of peace. From the intimate layout, to the private outdoor hot tub from which you can see the animals roam and the adjoining pond where bullfrogs conduct an evening symphony, the stay was so relaxing that none of us wanted to leave.
And let’s not forget the people! Everyone on the preserve and in Point Arena was very welcoming and embodied small town hospitality, including those we met on our day-​trip to nearby Boonville for wine tasting. If you’re not sure where or what to eat, drink, or do, everyone is more than happy to help with a recommendation. I’ve been to other animal sanctuaries, including the very well-​known one in Santa Rosa, but B. Bryan Preserve is by far the best; my visit and stay exceeded all expectations (which, truth be told, were quite high — it was my birthday, after all). I will definitely be back.

This review is for the cottages. We stayed the weekend at the most beautifully appointed, peaceful, comfortable, little
place. The private hot tub was divine. Everything was provided and thought of — we just brought our groceries and enjoyed. Loved having a lot of privacy and tranquility. One of the best getaways ever! Although we didn’t take the tour, we got to read up on all the animals in the literature provided in the cottage, and see them every day (from
a respectful distance. The zebras were my favorite. As an animal lover and ecologist,
I have never been to a zoo. What wonder to see these animals in a safe and good setting for them! Perfect combination of romantic setting and nature!

We stayed in Chapel Cottage and took the morning tour of the preserve. The cottage is lovely and the perfect place to relax in peace. There were no other people while we were here, and you can see the giraffe barn from the hot tub. You can hear frogs from the porch at night and the stained glass is beautiful. The cabin was well decorated and very cozy. In the morning you can look across the pond and watch a zebra and goat play together. Super close to the ocean and restaurants. Judy and Frank were both fantastic! We will definitely be coming back here (especially to see baby zebra & antelope).

We will never forget our visit to the B Bryan Preserve! It was such an incredible experience!
We had a tour the morning of Christmas Eve 2014. Cathy was our sweet and informative tour guide. They have two tours each day scheduled during feeding times. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. To take the tour costs $ 30 per adult and $ 15 for children ages 9 and under. That may seem pricey to some but it is worth every penny! They usually limit tours to 8 – 10 people. There were 10 people in our tour.
First we all meet in the barn where we are told about the animals we are about to see. We learn interesting information about the different species of Zebras and Antelopes and of course, my favorite, the 5 male Rothchild Giraffes that call the B Bryan Preserve, their home.
After the informative time in barn we all jump into an old safari looking jeep and head into the preserve. We get to see three different species of antelope (Kudu, Roan, and Sable), two species of zebra (Grevy, and Hartmann’s Mountain), and one very special species of giraffes, the Rothchild Giraffe. All the animals at the preserve are endangered species.
The Rothchild Giraffe (AKA Baringa Giraffe) is the tallest species of giraffe and thus the tallest animal on earth. Sadly, it is in extreme danger of extinction as there are only 670 left in world!
That morning it was chilly and a bit rainy so the giraffes were in a 2-​story barn that day. We walked up to the second floor of barn where we got to feed and pet and get kisses on our hands from the giraffes! It was so amazing to look at them eye to eye and feel their majestic presence! Truly an unforgettable experience!
Then we went down to the bottom floor and got to see these gorgeous giants as they hovered way above us! It was unbelievable to be that close to them! I didn’t want to leave. Cathy our tour guide literally had to drag us out, lol.
Jagger, a truly outgoing giraffe has no problem coming up to you to take the apples in your hand, tickling you with his tongue in the process. I never realized how sweet and personable these gentle giants are!
We also got to pet a young Zebra and see families of Antelope. Driving around in the jeep through the acres of this place out in nature gives the feeling of being in an African Safari. Only you are not in Africa but in California. The funny thing is that in our tour was a family of four who had spent 3 weeks in Africa this past Summer. Five days of those 3 weeks were spent in an African Safari. I asked them if this reminded them of their safari and they said yes but that in Africa they only saw the animals out in the wild, they never got up close and personal like we got to at B Bryan Preserve! Imagine that! And anyone can experience this for $ 30 bucks!
Never in my craziest dreams did I ever imagine I would get to make such a profound connection with a giraffe or touch a zebra. I had an amazing vacation with my family in Northern California. So much beauty and wonder to see there. When I asked everyone what their favorite parts of the vacation were, everyone had «the giraffes» on their list!!!
They say you can see glimpses of the personality of God through his creation. That is so true, for you leave this place, at least I did, feeling in awe at God and his breathtaking creativity displayed in these animals. The fact that it was on Christmas eve only adds to that. Being so close to these gentle giants was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience! In a way, it was like getting to experience the biblical garden of Eden where man walked with the animals in peace and harmony. As corny as it sounds, you will leave here «changed» by it.
I am thankful to the wonderful people behind this unique preserve. Thank you Cathy for your love and dedication to these animals and patience towards us! The world is indebted to you and all at B Bryan Preserve in a way they may never fully realize or even appreciate! I can tell you that my family and I appreciate all that you do there! And, we will be back one day ;)
Who knew California had its own «african safari» in Point Arena, Ca. Only in this «safari» you actually get up close and personal with the animals! Pictures or videos can never do it justice. Add this place to your must do «bucket list» ! I cannot stress this enough GO HERE!

We were staying in Mendocino for the weekend, and we knew it would be an hour’s drive each way to visit the B Bryan Preserve. We almost decided against it, but that would have been a BIG mistake. We loved the whole experience. It would have been well worth driving twice as far. It’s quite remarkable to find a collection of antelope, kudu, zebra, and giraffe right on the Northern California coast. Make no mistake, this place is not a zoo — it’s a preserve — you’ll see the animals up close in something that approximates their native habitat. Judy and Frank are obviously very passionate about the work they are doing to protect and preserve these endangered animals. Of course, the giraffe steal the show — if «getting kissed by a giraffe» is not on your bucket list, it should be!
