Steven Stratton Dressage and Eventing

Steven is a fabulous instructor. He is extremely professional, personable, and creates such a positive learning environment. I really appreciated his patience and persistence in helping me establish good habits as an adult beginner taking off years of rust. The facility is wonderful with many friendly, supportive people.

An easy way to turn away a customer is by never responding back to their requests and inquiries. Due to a medical emergency I had several weeks ago, I was unable to attend the riding session on the weekend that Steven had booked for me. I left a voice message for him the next day and mentioned that I would like to reschedule.
Since then, I have contacts Steven numerous times to re-​book but I have not received a single call back. It would have been a nice experience for my friend and I, but oh well I’ll have to look somewhere else for riding lessons.

I have been riding since I was seven years old but it was not until last year that I switched from western to English (with Steven Stratton). On top of the ever-​difficult challenge of relearning everything I thought I knew about riding, I am also forced to teach my now four year-​old mare the basics too.
Over the past year, I realized I would not have been able to come this far with my mare on my own. Anyone with any common sense knows a green horse and a green rider are not the best match. Steven Stratton understands that when dealing with green horses or if the horse is just completely new to classical dressage training, there are no shortcuts. He teaches at the pace of his clients and the horse. He is patient but also knows when to push.
I am astounded by some of the comments made by a previous reviewer, Smaty P., stating that, «.. . anyone can call themselves a «trainer» and that horse training does not follow legal or ethical codes of practice. .. «While the overwhelming majority of horse people «talk the talk» (and we all do it), I have NEVER witnessed Steven Stratton flaunting his riding capabilities – he takes pride in his work and his clients – then to go on and insinuate that Stratton practices unethical training methods?!
If this were true, wouldn’t all the horses that are under his instruction be lame with other health problems such as Smarty P. s? Perhaps the case with Smarty P. was more rider/​owner error. .. Your horse. Your Responsibility. If you notice your horse is off, it’s your job to call the vet. Not prolong it for months and then decide the trainer is at fault.
I too have a lazy horse, and quite possibly, just as lazy as I am. Since Training with Steven both my horse and my own stamina have increased. We’re doing things now that I thought I would never be able to accomplish for years. Just recently, taking home two 3^rd place ribbons at a dressage show.
Steven Stratton uses no gimmicks or false pretenses. He is a man that loves what he does and I enjoy every lesson I take with him, even if I AM having an off day and the effort makes me cry, I know that that I am getting closer to my goals as a rider.
I have nothing but positive experiences with Steven and I highly recommend him.
