NCAL Computers

I have bought several computers from NCAL. When my son was younger and into gaming, I had a couple of gaming computers built for him for Christmas. They are my go-​to spot for fixing problems or removing malware. I most recently had them upgrade my poor old XP PC to Windows 8. It is a complicated upgrade and I wanted my disk partitioned to save some old files. They always do a great job; they are priced very fairly and they will go the extra mile to get you what you need. I agree with Stephen M. — great not to get all the bloatware added on. They are a small shop and the guys who work there are tech guys. This type of knowledge and experience is badly needed in today’s environment and I love supporting a small business. You won’t go wrong using NCAL.

Bought my last 4 computers from them. Great prices, and not loaded with bloatware that you get in the big box stores.

Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. And that was before I even brought my laptop in for repairs.
1. Called to get an estimate and schedule a time to bring my laptop in for screen repairs. The person on the phone said he would call me back when the spare part that I needed came in. — I never got a call back.
2. A week later, I called to follow up and they apologized to me, gave me a «firm» time frame for when the spare part would be in, and said they would call back. (apparently the order was never placed?) — I never got a call back.
3. Another week later, after the date they said the spare part would come in, I call again, and this time they tell me the shipping got delayed. (Where was my call or notification?)
I finally got so fed up, and my laptop repair had been delayed for nearly 3 weeks, I just bought a new one.
The only reason they got 2 stars instead of 1 was because they gave a fairly reasonable quote and «might» have been stellar repairmen. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on that, but they certainly can’t be bothered to call back potential customers, that’s for sure.

At a time when people have lost the habit of repairing and using things, shops like these are not only valued but also need to be encouraged.
These guys were super efficient in fixing my 18 month old out-​of-​warranty laptop at a very reasonable price and they did it within the promised time.

It is hard to find a good quality brick and motar computer store these days, but I found one right here in Pleasanton.
Very fast and friendly customer service. They have many hard to find parts and they had just what I needed (motherboard spacers/​washers) If you are in the area you should check them out.

When I dropped my laptop I told them I had disconnected some cables to the keyboard along with replacing the screen (Friday). I received a call Monday morning telling me my laptop needed a new mother board. I reminded them of of the cables I asked them to reconnect and they told me «I didn’t leave a note», I didn’t know it was my responsibility to remind them of their job. So I called back an hour later and they said it was working great. (Reminder, my laptop was fully working before I dropped it of to them. I was using it with a separate screen.) So I picked it up and two hours later my mother board blows. They had ran inappropriate test to my mother board that didn’t need to be ran and killed my whole laptop. They fixed one problem and broke another. I’m so mad I bought a new screen and now it’s gone to waste.
If I could rate ZERO I would.

Needed to upgrade my laptop. This place has much better prices & deals than Best Buy. The service was friendly & fast. Made my day!

This place is amazing. Much better value & experience than the slimy overpriced sales pitch you get at Best Buy or the likes. These guys don’t thrive on the ignorance of the customer, they’re there to help you make an informed decision. Joe is an honest, great guy who’s been doing this for years and he really has a passion for his company & always putting customers first.

This place is the last bastion of parts combined with reliable service for all your computer needs. I’ve purchased several systems here, parts (MB, HDD, SIMS, CPU, power supplies, etc.) and have yet to be disappointed. 5 thumbs up (if I had them).

After a recent power surge, my son’s Dell PC wouldn’t boot. The IT guy at my office looked at it and said it had a weird colored cable, so I’d better get it from Dell. I called Dell, was transferred 3 times, and eventually told that they were out of stock, and they couldn’t find replacement parts.
So, I went to
to find a local computer repair company. NCAL on Hopyard Rd in Pleasanton came up and they had several good review, so I called them & explained my situation.
Marcello told me he was confident that they could help me, so I drove down there with the PC.
Marcello and his co-​worker were having their lunches, but they dropped everything to help me. They quickly determined that the power supply was the problem. Lo and behold, they had a replacement part in stock and within less than 10 minutes, my son’s PC was as good as new! And the price was less than half of what Dell would have charged IF THEY HAD ONE in stock! (Dell may want to add NCAL as a supplier)
Truly excellent customer service and great pricing. We have 5 PC’s at home, so now I know exactly where to come whenever we need help with our computers.

My hard drive crashed and I was pretty nervous about taking in the computer and being at the mercy of an unknown repair person. I looked at the ratings in Bay Area Consumer Checkbook and this was one of a few that looked pretty good… and my experience there was VERY good. They tried multiple ways to resuscitate the drive, unfortunately without luck. But their charge to replace it, and their quick service, were excellent. I found them to be knowledgeable and friendly, as well. No more nervousness about this computer support business!

Walked in just to get some antistatic bags and I was pretty impressed with the selection, almost as good as Fry’s for PC components without all the hassle. Seem to have all those little bits and pieces you’re highly likely to lose or forget about but are vital to new hardware (sata cables, power supply adapters, etc.)

Took laptop in for overheating. They had it for 3 days, which seemed quite long. I then had to take the laptop back in 2 more times because the keyboard was not working properly anymore. They had to check the connector for the keyboard. No problem was diagnosed with overheating other than the video card running a bit warm, which I was told could be normal for Nvidia type cards. The tech was nice, but I felt I had to check on the status of my laptop frequently just to know what was happening with it and even then I had to ask all the questions to get more information on what type of diagnostics were being performed on the computer. This was a bit frustrating, so I was not impressed with the customer service.

Great Place to viist, better when Brad was working there. Get all the deals. Prices are close to Frys and allowed opening of credit lines for consultants

When I lived in Pleasanton this was my hardware vendor of choice. Definetely the best computer shop I’ve ever been to and trust me, I’ve been to ALOT!
Brilliant tech’s, customer service that was beyond what was expected and competitive prices to even newegg. You can’t beat that for local computer shops. Every tech repair shop should model off of this store.

3 out of the 5 switches I purchased here were bad. I was coming from work in Castro Valley to purchase them so it kind of sucked when I had to come back to return them. yes the prices are good, but most of the items I purchased weren’t. I was sorely disappointed.
Yes, they knew what they were talking about (most of the time) and I could certainly get a lot more help here than at Fry’s but. to have to return such a large portion of material because it didn’t work was depressing. HOWEVER they did exchange everything no problem so they get an extra star for that.
And yes Jason W. I did bother to decode it I had to know why you would give it 4 stars after all.

Yay! Finally a place that’s got prices like Fry’s but without all the zombies looking to eat your brains because they have none of their own.
Yay! A place I can go to for computer stuff that has everything I need but doesn’t triple the price like Best Buy.
Example: 400w computer power supply.
Best Buy: $ 79.00
Ncal: $ 39.00
I’d say that’s a rather significant difference. Wouldn’t you? Plus, they know what they’re talking about.
Example: «I’d like a USB hub please»
Fry’s: «We might have them, go look over in washers and dryers»
Ncal: «They’re right here, I’ll give you a few bucks off too.»

I had two systems built here and it was good to work with them because I could get a system built with no software and I could install what I needed. And they built it with only the things I needed (e.g. — a gamer would get a great video card, otherwise an ok one would do… and they would ask you what you are going to use your computer for). As Bill C. says, reasonable, did what they said they would do and honored their products… a better experience than chain computer stores.
When I was in the Bay Area, I took this place for granted. Now that I don’t have a knowledgable, reliable computer place to go to, I miss NCal.

This is a pretty cool little place. The staff there has always been friendly and prompt. They’ve built a few systems for me and my friends. They’ve been finished when they said they would and they stand behind their products. Prices are good, not a super bargain but you get what you pay for. Plus, it’s way better to deal with these guys locally than some faceless mail order computer store.
Will I be back? Yeah in a few years when it’s time to upgrade to a new system.
