I contacted helpful husband after reading the wonderful reviews on Unilocal and was expecting great service from the start. I called them on 12÷31÷15 received a recording from Irene. She requested that I send her a detailed email with all items that needed to be repaired. I promptly prepared the list and sent it to Irene on ¹²⁄₃₁ around noon. Since then I have called back twice and resent the email. It’s been a week and I still haven’t heard anything from helpful husband. Does anyone know of they’re still in business?

Bill and Irene were a pleasure to work with. Responsive, patient and the work speaks for itself. My husband and I are NOT handy and I will definitely use Bill and Helpful Husband in the future.

Called Bill for help building a dresser, he was booked up for a week, so I thought I would have to wait, his lovely assistant gave me a call back letting me know that he was available earlier, and everything worked out perfectly, he came over he did his job quick and professionally, he is a very nice man and would definitely use him again, I look forward to another project for him to complete definitely recommend his services!!!

Thank you, Bill! I needed an extra pair of helpful hands for a ton of remodel projects. I contacted Bill and Irene and immediately got on their calendar. Bill showed up twice (exactly on time) and repaired a ceiling fan install, installed and secured a garage cabinet, mounted a new vanity light, and built and installed a custom Ikea wardrobe (not to mention helped me complete another light fixture install I had trouble with). All the work was done correctly and everything looks and works great. Bill paid great attention to detail and was sure to clean up after all of his work. I would recommend his services in a second — he really can apparently do it all. If I need more help in the future, I will give them a call immediately.

Bill was AWESOME! He mounted two TVs on the wall, a 66 lb mirror, flushed the tankless water heater, along with various things. I’m really happy with the great job he has done. He was personable, punctual, patient with my questions, careful, and took time to explain how things work and what options I could choose from. He even managed to get everything done without disrupting my babies’ naptime. I definitely plan to call him again for future service requests.

Bill was simply amazing. While it took over a week to get an appointment with him, he was worth the wait and is busy for a reason — because he’s great! He showed up on time, and was scheduled to do 3 jobs:
1. Hang a huge 100+ lb mirror
2. Hang an extra-​long curtain rod and curtains
3. Hang and install a chandelier (including the electrical)
He took extra care to measure everything perfectly, using painters tape to make his markings so as not to directly mark up the walls. He was very careful about all furniture that was in the way, and kept putting on clean gloves to ensure he didn’t get anything dirty. He kept me very informed of my options for each project (which light switch did I want to enable for the chandelier, which type of bracket would I prefer for the curtain rod, what sort of anchors to use for hanging the mirror), and explained how/​why he was doing things, and what to expect as an outcome.
While he was here, my mom noticed a leak in the bathroom faucet, which he graciously gave his opinion on, and later fixed. He also helped some other workers I had in the house to relocate an electrical outlet. He was very willing to help and spend the extra time, even though it wasn’t in the original plan.
Aside from his high quality, detail oriented work, Bill was knowledgeable, polite, and fun/​interesting to talk to. He’s a true professional, and his work is impeccable. I found his pricing to be reasonable and worth every penny. He’ll be my first call next time I have any odd jobs around the house to be done that my *real* husband doesn’t have time for. :)

Bill is great! He is so good at what he does! We had him replace a mailbox after ours was blown up. I could tell that he really loves what he does and he thinks of everything! And he is very nice about explaining what needs to be done. I’m so grateful to have found him and plan on using him a lot in the future!

Bill and Irene are wonderful! My husband and I always go to them if there is anything to be done at our home (we are not handy at all). They are always very responsive to our emails and he’s done such a great job every time. When I ask about other things that needs to be done around the house, Bill would actually recommend alternatives to his service to save us money. Bill recently visited our home and spent a full day fixing various things on our «to do» list. He did a terrific job, was thorough and detail-​oriented, and solicited my input where appropriate. I fear posting a positive review since that means he will be harder to get ahold of. But thanks Bill. Oh and Irene was very organized as well! Pleasure to work with you both, and look forward to having Bill come back.

Bill is fantastic! We had him come for two full days. Every project he completed to perfection and more. He even taught me tricks of the trade. He worked non stop, I kept asking him if he needed something to eat or drink, and he wouldn’t stop. I really appreciated his understanding my daughter’s nap schedule, and organizing projects to ensure that her schedule wouldn’t be disrupted.

Bill and Irene are AMAZING. My husband and I are so glad we found Helpful Husband. Irene is so organized and responsive. She helped me put my list of repair and maintenance items together to be more specific. This was a great help when Bill showed up. He knew exactly what to do and was so efficient. It is amazing the amount of knowledge Bill has on household maintenance and repairs. I didn’t get a chance to meet Bill but my husband did. He was so impressed with Bill and appreciative of able to find someone to assist with the work that he just doesn’t have the time or skills to do.

Bill is great! He was on time, very personable, and efficient. As he was fixing items around the condo, he would tell me what the problem was and explain to me how he could fix it. He even caught a cabinet door in the bathroom that had cracked (I hadn’t noticed!) and repaired that as well!

Irene was a great help with the scheduling and managing of the logistics and also provides great clarity on what the scope of work includes. It was easy to communicate with her via phone or email and she responds quickly.
Bill came by and showed us as first time home buyers, how to do the work that we asked him to come by and help us out with (seal grout and granite throughout the house). He was very good at explaining the process, tools, tricks, and pointed to some areas we may want to address with a different sealer in coming years to prolong their life. We had a couple of special requests for materials recommended to us that Bill picked up and then just charged us for those materials with no up-​charge. Anything unused he left for us so that I can do it the next time, now that I know what to do — thanks to Bill.

Where do I start. Bill and Irene … make a great team. I just had to write a review on Unilocal since that’s how I found Bill. His work is impecable and he doesn’t rest until its right. And then his rates make it so easy to ask for his help. He’d help replace the gear on my trash compactor. I then recommended him to my friend and they’ve used him for SEVERAL full days to do odds and ends after they moved into their new home. He was at my friends house while we were having a play date and I told him my compactor was sticking … he got miffed. As if it were his to worry about, like he was the owner of the compactor. And made me promise that if it didn’t get better or got worse that I call/​email for him to come back and look at it. That really proved to me that he takes his work to heart.
Forunately Bill (since I know you’ll see this) … it’s only stuck a handful of times and hasn’t in a while. I think it just needed a bit of use since it’d been so long. :)
You are great at what you do … have no fear … I’ll continue to recommend you and request your help again.

Bill is the best handyman I have found! His wife is lovely and punctual with returning phone calls, scheduling appointments and answering my questions.

I have been derelict in writing this. Bill is fantastic, and if you need to take care of some maintenance around the house — large or small — Bill is the right guy to call.
We had been struggling to keep up with basic maintenance at the house. With both of us working full-​time and neither of us being particularly handy, little things started to pile up. The dog ate some of our window sill. He repaired it and painted it. A door was sticking. Fixed. The fireplace was not working. Corrected that. The baseboard, the shower, a grate, some kitchen stuff… fixed, fixed, fixed, fixed. All in a single day.
The guy is a machine.
Then we brought him back to baby-​proof the house. Done in less than half a day.
We brought him over to paint a wall. And then another wall. And a ceiling. Done in a day. Including all the Home Depot trips and matching paint.
He cleaned our two-​story rain gutters today. In a few hours. He modified our cabinets to fit a new fridge. Also done today.
The best part? Yeah, he is very good at what he does, but he is super nice about it. He and his wife got us baby gifts today. The personal touch is amazing.
He charges about $ 55/​hr or $ 400/​day. It is so worth it. We keep bringing him back, and there is no sign that this will stop.

I am so pleased to have found Irene and Bill on Unilocal!I had been putting off some fixes around the house and finally decided to do something about it. I really didn’t know where to begin looking for an everyman handyman. Unilocal to the rescue. To be honest, another handyman service showed up first in my Unilocal search and that service hasn’t called me back yet. !!!
Irene contacted me right away to book a date to provide an estimate (a Sunday no less!). She also reserved an additional date to actually do the work should I decide to select them after they provided an estimate.
Bill showed up on time on Sunday morning and was prepared with the list of concerns/​fixes that I emailed to Irene. Not only was he friendly and knowledgeable, but he quickly surveyed the most concerning item on my list, which happened to be my front door (broken threshold, broken door sweep, door not hanging correctly in the frame which was affecting the lock and opening/​closing mechanism). He spent quite a bit of time at our house on Sunday doing what he could to remedy the situation. He did not feel comfortable leaving my house until he had made some fixes and adjustments to the door so that at least it would lock correctly until he could make it back.
Before returning to our house, I received a detailed outline from Irene with estimates for all of the fixes. I love organized lists and this is exactly what was provided. In addition, the costs were reasonable.
When Bill returned, he spent a good amount of time at our home. He systematically went about tending to not just the items I had mentioned, but he also brought some other items to my attention, which is always appreciated. My front door now works like it is supposed to. He also gave me some great advice on spring cleaning items.

If I could give him more stars for being trustworthy and friendly, I would. I will not hesitate to refer Bill to neighbors, friends and families. I’ve already decided to call him for some repairs to our deck this summer.

This was for my boss’s office. I needed to get two very heavy wooden wall sculptures hung. They were too heavy for me to handle and were obviously going to have to be hung securely, nailed or screwed in to studs to be able to hold the weight.
The office is in Pleasanton and I don’t live there, so I didn’t know anything about who might be trustworthy. If I screwed this up, I’d look bad in front of my boss and he’d see it every day. I was determined to be careful and get this right. I’d be seeing it every day, too.
I’ve used Unilocal for several years and written my share of reviews, good and bad, so I searched Pleasanton listings for a handyman. When I found Helpful Husband I was struck by the brilliance of the name. What woman wouldn’t appreciate a Helpful Husband? On top of that, his website also notes that’s he’s The Husband’s Best Friend, the guy who always has the right tools and knows how to do stuff. Brilliant!
I called the number and talked to the owner. He was very personable, told me he and his family had lived in Pleasanton for several generations, and that, although he was tied up doing a deck for someone that day, he could come by the next day.
When he showed up, he grasped what needed to be done quickly. He was very careful to find the studs and explained that screws would be better than nails to hold the heavy weight of these hand-​carved, wooden sculptures. He measured carefully, made sure I was satisfied with where they were to be positioned, then went to it. He wasted no time, did exactly what I wanted, was neat about his work, in sum was a professional in every way. On top of all that, he charged substantially less than I had expected to pay.
I’m picky and a hard grader (this is an understatement). That said, I recommend Helpful Husband very highly! I hope he stays in business for many, many years because I now have someone I can trust to do things like this!

Longtime Unilocal lurker here, I’m embarrassed to say I have long used other’s reviews without contributing my own. But Helpful Husband has encouraged me to write my first.
Top notch service, more than I could have ever expected for the little work I needed done. I called on Wed. evening at 6:30, Bill answered and discussed changing out my kitchen garbage disposal. We scheduled a meeting for Friday morning at 9am, although he offered sooner. 30 minutes after our phone call he emailed me a few recommended disposals with price comparisons between Home Depot and Lowe’s. I went and bought one of the units he reco’d and Friday morning he showed up at… wait for it…8:58am. He did a great job, was perfectly tidy and thorough. Even sent a follow up email later in the morning to say thank you and to recommend a showerhead we had discussed when he was at my house. I was floored by the quality of service.
Very affordable, totally nice guy to talk to with plenty of knowledge to share with a completely non-​handy guy like myself. I’ve already begun compiling a list of additional items to do around the house that I’ll need his help with.
Absolutely recommend this business to anyone looking for help around the house.
