Cosmos Barber Shop in Pleasanton

I’ve been coming here a while to get my haircut and today I had a lady cut my hair who I have never seen there before. Big mistake! as she could not understand basic English and did not listen at all to how I asked for my hair to be done. I have a cowlick in the back of my hair and I always tell them not to cut it short or it will stick up. I mentioned this to the lady at least three times and she still disregarded it. On top of that the haircut overall looked very cheap and was not symmetrical. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such a horrendous haircut. Even after doing a terrible job I reluctantly still tipped. I clearly should not have because the lady did not even have the gratitude to thank me. While it’s only ten dollars, spend more on a decent haircut elsewhere. I won’t be coming back

If you cherish your hair at all, don’t be cheap about your hair cut. Go to a real salon. Even for a 1 – 2 inch trim.
The woman who cut my hair did not speak english, but I did not know that. When I was telling her what I wanted done she kept saying «okay» over and over. I just wanted a trim of my long hair. She misunderstood and cut an 8 – 10 inch long chunk out of the center of the back of my hair. I asked to have another person fix my hair because when I became very upset the women could not understand me. The new women did her best to save my hair but its a chopped up mess. I am going to have to just wait until it grows out. This was and is so traumatizing for me. I am having nightmares even 2 months later. It is painful to look in the mirror. I will never return to this place again, I can’t even drive past the building without becoming upset about it.
Plus I don’t think these women are paid well or treated well by their employer either. The owner is very mean to them in front of customers. I will no longer support this place and I don’t think you should either.

I’ve come back to Cosmo’s after many years to get my haircut. Lilly and Kim are great! Also, say «Hi» to Cosmo who still makes it happen!

I haven’t been to Cosmo’s in over 7 years, but am taking taking a friend there soon to experience the great service. The last time I went I had great professional highlights, cut and style. I was used to going to hi end salons, but after going there with another friend, I decided to try it, and loved the quick service. I watched a variety of clientele leave happy. It’s a really great place especially if Cosmo is there.

I never go anywhere else! Mary is the best! If you have a flattop, you won’t find a better Barbershop than Cosmo’s

I have been regularly coming to Cosmo’s for my haircut for almost a year now. Every time I have come in I have never had to wait more than two minutes until someone has been available to cut my hair. I love that they’re open seven days a week and they always accept the coupon on the back of the Safeway receipts, which saves you three dollars on a regular men’s haircut.
I definitely would recommend this place for anyone. They accept cash only, and I have seen young kids, adults, elderly folks, and women as well all getting their haircut or styled here.
Check it out, you won’t regret it!

I have been a customer since the early 90s and have always been pleased with the haircut I get here. It’s inexpensive so I feel its great for my brothers and I (we each get simple fades) however I do not recommend it to my wife (or anyone who is trying to actually have their hair «done» in any complex way).
The staff is great and the environment is excellent. Take your boys /​men here for a trim.

If I could give this place no stars, I would. Negative, even!!! We took our son here today and the woman (she never even introduced herself) who cut his hair was simply AWFUL. She did not ask what we wanted. He has always gotten a scissor cut and she immediately pulled out the clippers and started buzzing him with a 2! We have NEVER gone that short! My son was crying because he was afraid of the clippers but all that did was make the «stylist» frustrated. She didn’t talk to him at all, only to me to complain that he was upset. She was getting hair all over his face and eyes which made him cry more and she would not stop. She trimmed around his ears with the clippers and it was COMPLETELY jagged!!! We asked her to fix it and now it looks like he is completely bald on the side of his head. This is not ok!!! My poor 4 year old son is TRAUMATIZED now because this idiot didn’t listen or care about what we asked for or how my son was reacting. It was VERY clear that this place is just a chop shop that doesn’t care about customer service. I am so upset about this experience and we will NEVER return!!!

This review is only for KIM at Cosmos. Not sure about the other cutters. She is good at cutting my kids hair and my hair. I always make reservations and she is always good about keeping the appointment. I just have to say all the other people who have had a bad review… sometimes you have to have a couple of bad before you get a good… haircut!

Cheap ($ 10+tip), efficient haircut (10 mins even on busy Friday noon). Been here a couple times now and the standard is pretty consistent and great for the price.

I can hardly say any good thing about this place other than the price advantage it offers over its competitors. This was my first visit here. When I told the style that I want to the barber, I wasn’t sure if she got it. At the end of haircut I felt, I was right. She didn’t get it! My son, who had a hair cut at the same time had a similar experience. It’s not just their hair cut skill but, also the customer service is equally bad.

Never had a problem with Cosmos in 13 years. I’m ecstatic their open till 8pm and my picky 14 year old son looks forward to his bi-​weekly haircut.

Not happy. Came here on Saturday evening because I was desperate to find a place that was open past 6pm and should have paid attention to the other reviews.
I don’t want to knock everyone who cuts hair at this place, but the woman that attempted to give me a fade f’d up my hair. Oh well, never again.

I’ve been coming to Cosmo’s for about 20 years and have been very satisfied.
Walk in and get your hair cut. I can’t remember a time that I have had to wait at all.
$ 10, less if you bring a coupon and you get a decent hair cut. You are on your way again in 20 minute.
I don’t think that I have ever had a bad hair cut there, which is far better than the chain place I used to go to before. Also the staff at Cosmo’s seems far happier and more polite than the chain barber shop.
Do you get the same service and perfection as if you went to a salon? No, but almost as good and you get what you need for a far better price.

Very cheap, but at what cost? Went for a trim here today, came out looking worse. I look terrible! My brother keeps laughing at me and I cant even look at myself. How am I supposed to even go to school like this??? I’d be better off cutting my own hair. Moreover, the place was noisy, dirty, and like a zoo. Hairstylist was nice but didnt cut my hair well. Asked for layers and a fix up on my bangs. Came out with choppy bangs and thick, messy hair. Not coming back, not recommending to friends.

Use to take my nephews here when they were young a long time ago and decided to take my 5yr old son here. Things are different and not for the better.
After being skipped two times it was finally our turn. He is in the seat with the apron on and they are getting ready to start his haircut. A previously customer comes back to have more cut from his son’s hair and first the haircutter asks them to wait, then tells me to take my son down so she can do the other kids hair! Seriously!!!
If you have already seated a customer finish the cut. The other customer can wait and should have made sure his cut was right before leaving.
We left and went to another barber and had a much better experience and not like the zoo at Cosmos.
Glad I will not waste time driving cross town to come here again.

Men’s Haircut
Always visualized this as a barber shop until I eventually tried them out. I was wrong. Felt more like my other haircut spots where Asian women were everywhere. lol ;)
Price — Excellent. Fantastic if with a coupon!
Place — Clean, and more than adequately staffed.
Parking — Easy and plentiful
Service — So far so good. :)

Super hit and miss. I’ve gotten some good hair cuts here but mostly pretty bad ones (I still don’t get how you can screw up a simple fade).I’ve gotten some haircuts where the fade is way too low, too high, or crazy uneven. It’s only 10 dollars and at that price I guess you get what you pay for.
I’ve come here around 15 times give or take but this was the last time. I used to have faith in Cosmo’s but I’ve just gotten too many bad hair cuts here.

My experience here was awful. I first visited this place when I was 14, and I vowed never to return to this place after receiving my first haircut EVER from someone else.
Fast-​forward 11 years…
I usually go to Famous Ones in Oakland where I pay slightly more for QUALITY haircuts, but given that I was about to go out in San Francisco for my friend’s birthday and in need of a quick haircut, I decided to go to Cosmos and give them another shot after all these years. I come in and was quickly acknowledged by a vietnamese woman who said she could cut my hair. I’m a little hesitant to get my haircut by women just because I feel like guys just know men’s hair better. I looked around the barber shop and there were 10 other women cutting hair so I really had no choice. I sat down in the chair and told her exactly what I wanted — Combover with a bald fade.
I had just gotten off work and so my hair was ALREADY done with pomade and I told her I didn’t need the top touched so ALL she really had to do was bald fade the sides and line up the hairline. I asked her «DO — YOU — KNOW — HOW — TO — FADE «. She nodded and said «Yes yes yes». I asked her again «Do you know how to fade WELL?» She said «Yes yes yes.» So I sat there waiting for her to cut my hair.
Immediately, she takes the razor and starts from the bottom and goes ALL the way to the top. She does this ALL the way around my head, and even has the audacity to TRIM my already done combover. I think I’ll keep this short, I’ll post a picture to show you how AWFUL this haircut turned out and you can decide if this place is worth $ 10. Now I have to go out looking like this *shaking my head*
In general, vietnamese women are AWFUL at cutting hair. They are not to be trusted. Avoid this place at ALL COSTS.

Why does my baby drive 30.6 miles just to get a haircut by Jennifer? It’s because she does an AWESOME job! We’ve tried other places in Concord/​Pleasant Hill and no one compares to the great job she does.
This ain’t no «old man» with a beard barber shop. This shop is filled with tiny, size 0, Asian women. You may get a few Hispanic ladies. Mostly 80% of the stylist are gorgeous women. Don’t get any ideas men, there is NO happy ending here. The only happy ending you will get is a massage on the neck and a smile when you leave because you love the way your hair looks.
The cost of a haircut is $ 10 for men. You can’t beat that. So make sure you give these ladies a great tip. Not only do they do a good job… it’s not easy to stand in heels all day. Trust me I know. So, don’t be a d-​bag and only give a $ 2 tip it better be atleast $ 5.
So what is my thought on the final results of my honey’s haircut. It’s definitely a 5 stars all the way! After he’s done getting his haircut, I just want to jump his bones. Lol.
Keep in mind, I can only attest to Jennifer’s cutting skills. I’m not sure about the other ladies. I know once when we went there and Jennifer was out and we got another lady, the end result wasn’t as good. I also noticed, when looking around the ladies don’t engage in conversation with their client and I don’t see a smile on their faces. Maybe, they are concentrating on the haircut, so they don’t mess up. Who knows…
Tip: the women on the right side of the shop (once you walk in) are «veterans» the experts. The ones on the left are newbies and can change regularly.
Side note: As a female, some of the «attire» I see some women wear are inappropriate. It’s a barber shop not a night club. I remember going there once and one of the ladies was wearing a black «COSMO» printed dress that almost looked like a short cotton nightgown. This was the company’s logo on the dress which I thought to be inappropriate attire. There are several upscale salon/​barber shops out there where women are not encouraged to where such attire and the business do well. I would still bring my BF here to see Jennifer because she does an awesome job, but if she left the company we would not come back and probably follow her wherever she ends up going just as long as it’s not further than 30.6 miles. LOL
